Metal Gear Solid now out on Japanese PlayStation Store - Image 1Are you feeling absolutely sneaky right now? Got 600 yen (US$ 6) and a PlayStation 3 on you? Well then, have we got a treat for you. Metal Gear Solid is now out on Japan's PlayStation Store.

For those who managed to miss playing the game when it came out on the PlayStation, here's a quick backgrounder: You're Solid Snake, and you're tasked with infiltrating Shadow Moses Island to recover a nuclear capable bipedal tank known as Metal Gear REX. Along the way, you have to be extra sneaky to avoid detection from guards, and also master the art of combat in its myriad forms to defeat the members of FOXHOUND.

As mentioned above, Metal Gear Solid is now available on the PlayStation Store for 600 yen. That being said, it isn't the only title available for that price, as we've listed below:
  • Atelier Elie
  • Dezaemon Kids
  • Pro Mahjong Kiwame Plus II
  • Crash Bandicoot Carnival
  • Master of Monsters: Akatsuki no Kenja Tatsu
What are you waiting for? Grab your "I Love David Hayter!" bandana and head on over to the PlayStation Store for more details.

» Damn Japan

Where's ours?

I want MGS, Final Fantasy 7-9 and Gran Turismo 2 on the US PSN so bad!

» Fear not.

I'm sure the US will be getting this pretty darn soon, at least in the lead up to the release of MGS4.

Also, I agree on releasing FF 7 thru 9 on the PSN asap!

» Pffttt wrong

Your synopsis of the plot is technically incorrect. Snake isn't sent in to Shadow Moses to recover REX. He's sent in to rescue two hostages and gather intel on FOXHOUND. Metal Gear was not initially a specific mission objective for him, and thus that is a bit of a spoiler to anyone who's not aware that MGS is about a nuclear bipedal tank. I'm sure there's a couple of those people out there.

And I'm just messing with ya. I'm nitpicking because I'm an MGS whore. :oP

I have a prediction that we will be getting this next, and really soon.

» gather intel?

yeah, pretty bad nitpicking... how can somebody not see that "METAL GEAR SOLID" is a game about.... spoiler alert..... a new METAL GEAR????

I mean... this game is the third (or is it fourth) installment in the Metal Gear series (metal gear and metal gear 2 on the MSX/NES being the first two.. or actualy three.. the nes version of the second game was different to the MSX version).. so anyone can figure that little "spoiler" out.

REX is mentioned as part of the mission in the intro of the game (as a nuclear threat, that you have to investigate and stop), thus making the synopsis correct... shortened but correct.

so if you are as you say a "MGS whore", you clearly didn't pay enough attention to the story of this particular game since the mission is not to gather intel, but to stop the nuclear threat.

Nope, RatATatTatt is correct. The government sends him in to recover the two hostages. The only info he knows is that they are all former Foxhound members and that there were human Genome soldiers everywhere.

He didn't find out about Metal Gear Rex until when you talk to President Baker who tells you what the research facility was actually for [hence Snake's "What? Metal Gear?" comment]. The mission objectives change in the middle of the game to deactivate or destroy Metal Gear Rex.

» so?

Just buy the original disc versions, all PS3s play them no problem and they can be played on the PSP with custom firmware and a popstation conversion.

If sony doesn't want to make them available, punish them by not giving them your money!
