Mercury Meltdown

A sequel to Mercury, the inventive puzzle game released when the PSP launched last year was announced a while ago, now Ignition Entertainment has given Mercury Meltdown a release date: In Europe, you can officially get your hands on the game this September.

In Mercury Meltdown, now featuring an all-new visual style, players once again take the role of the liquid "blob", and avoid lots of obstacles and hazards on the way to the goal. The sequel has expanded on this unique premise with the introduction of 4 states the blob can have - Normal, Solid, Fast and Slow. With those new states, more complex levels and new challenges are possible, making the game even more fun.

Besides this, the developers have doubled the number of levels to a total of more than 160. The added Downloadable Content feature promises even more levels, and when players have finally come around to beating all these challenges the new Wireless 2-player modes provide 5 sub games to play against a friend or the computer.

Vijay Chadha, Managing Director, Ignition Entertainment Ltd, said: "For Mercury Meltdown, we have listened to the feedback received from the first title and have also added many new additional ideas - while remaining true to the first game, Mercury Meltdown has a more accessible look and feel designed to appeal to everyone."

» Old one...?

Hey, does anyone know if they've already rereleased the first one that requires an firmware update? I always wanted it, but never picked it up. If they haven't reprintied it for 2.0+, I need to pick it up soon.

» really, they *****ked this shyt up....

Its really sad actually. god, the first mercury was so great! I lvoed it because it was a video game, but it didnt feel like a video game, it was great because it was fun, challenging, there was no background music (good and bad) which allowed concentration and realism, and it had very real gfx, this cartoony azz shyt just dont cut up to par with the first one. I cant beleive they did this to such a great game

» To RaiderX

Wtf are you talking about, of course there was background music, it was calm, relaxing and kicked ass.

You are either on crack, or have to turn your PSP volume up.

» Watch the Trailer and then see what you think!

http://www.ignitionent.com/meltdown

Download the trailer from there and then give your opinion, I personally think it looks great in motion. They still have nailed the look of the Mercury flowing even in this new style.

To me there are a number of reasons why I feel that the art style is a welcome change.

1) The game is supposedly more accessible to the novice player, and with that it seems that possibly they decided to make it look more simplistic. The original seemed to look a bit of a serious puzzle game.

2) The visuals are far easier to see then in the previous Mercury, and I like that, trying to depict small bits of Mercury could be a pain sometimes in the original

3) The levels are far crazier then in the original game, to the extent that it makes AMM look sane. The art style matches that craziness that is Mercury Meltdown

4) Having 4 different states would be possibly hard to distuingish by using the old art style. The new art style takes care of this.

To me, the graphics are better then the original Mercury, even though they are not directly comparable. Sure it does not look like real Mercury anymore, but this game isn't exactly 'realistic' in it's scenarios either! The gameplay though is my key factor, and I think in this area, it will be such a major improvement for the Mercury series.

» level editor

I hope this game has a level editor, as I would buy the game just for that. They should really have 2 visual styles in this game, the 'classic' and 'cartoon' styles.
