Nintendo's Mario Kart Wii for Wii - Image 1It seems like software sales in Japan are still dancing to the same old tune that have been the trend over the past few weeks. The latest numbers from Media Create for the week of May 5 to May 11 revealed that both Nintendo's Mario Kart Wii and Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G are once again the top charting titles in the country.

Mario Kart Wii took the top spot by bringing in about 107,000 sales for the week, while Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G contributed with some 82,000 units sold at second place. It was interesting to note that aside from Capcom's monster hunting action title, Nintendo was able to dominate all the other slots in the top ten software list.

Anyway, these are the top ten titles in Japan based on the sales report from Media Create:
  1. Mario Kart Wii (Wii) - 106,780
  2. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (PSP) - 82,466
  3. Wii Fit (Wii) - 52,744
  4. Link's Crossbow Training (Wii) - 48,808
  5. Meccha! Taiko Drum Master DS! Adventure of 7 Islands (DS) - 34,474
  6. Pokemon Ranger Batonage! (DS) - 27,035
  7. Deca Sporta (Wii) - 21,986
  8. Wii Sports (Wii) - 20,586
  9. We're Fossil Diggers (DS) - 17,338
  10. Super Smash Bros Brawl (Wii) - 16,403
On the flip side of things, Sony's PlayStation Portable has once again topped the hardware sales charts with the handheld leading the pack with 89,884 unit sales. Nintendo's Wii and DS closely follow with 67,308 and 51,228 sales respectively. Finally, the PlayStation 3 trails behind this week with only 8,054 units.

I really hope the incredible success of Monster Hunter and the very healthy hardware sales for PSP will encourage more developers to make proper, good games for the system.

sadly MHP2G is the only trump they have at the moment. As soon this is getting old, PSP will decline again. I mean, look at the software charts. This is the only game that is not for Nintendos consoles.

which is ironic since Monster Hunter 3 is coming to the Wii!

Seriously though. Nintendo owns Japan too it seems.
