Nintendo DSi - Image 1It's time to compare numbers again. After the impressive giant leap that the PS3 console made the past couple of weeks, things are starting to simmer down as the DSi regains the top spot in Japan's Media Create hardware sales chart for the week of September 7 through the 13th.

The PS3 numbers are still competitive, but given the events that transpired this month so far, it does rattle the mind  how the DSi could have held on to that top spot consistently for so long --  and so quietly at that. I mean, everyone was excited about the PS3 price drop and new Slim model, and we all saw how drastic the effect of that was to its sales.  Yet, still, that wasn't enough to even keep it on top for the full first month.

Don't get me wrong, am not hating. Even more, I'm not even "comparing" the PS3 and the DSi as gadgets. I'm just saying. In the context of this sales charts, that DSi, that's got some wicked magic right there.

Anyway, here are the numbers:
  • DSi – 66,498
  • PS3 – 55,344
  • PSP – 18,375
  • Wii – 17,568
  • DS Lite – 11,179
  • Xbox 360 – 7,568
  • PS2 – 2,612

» Obvious

The reason why the PS3 fell back behind the DSi again? Easy: POKEMON.

Them crazy Japanese and their crazy Pokeemans.

And there we go again. Business as usual. People like sales, people like Pokemon. It's a natural cycle.

One things fo sho though - the new Pokemon DS games are pretty brilliant. My limited Japanese is holding me back but these are really amazing games. The pokewalker thing is finding its way into my bag when walking to/from work too... gah! i'm too old for this shizz.

Not to mention those versions were the best versions in the whole entire Pokemon game series.

Didn't expect the PS3 to keep it up anyways. At least both the PSP and PS3 is beating the Wii. At this point Nintendo will have to push for a price drop.

If only Valve makes Counter-Strike for psp... that will boost psp sales for sure.

» well when you think about it

the Ds and Dsi usually support childrens games. nintendo has pokemon, link, mario and kirby and the psp has beat the ds and dsi at just about everything else. i used to play pokemon when i was little but then it started to be the same thing over and over and over they just throw in some new ones the look similar to some animal and now they are starting to look like eletrical devices like the raton that was a lawn mower some poeple would think "why would that be interesting to anybody" well *shrug* they're kids.

the dsi also has some kiddy features like take a picture of someone and f uck up there face digitally, don't get me wrong though im not saying the ds relys completally on kidddy games. thats just the variety of there players. the psp has more teenaged thing like GTA Vice city Stories, Disgaea 2, MotorStorm, Resistance Retribution, and Disgaea while the dsi has mario 64, zelda, and pokemon.

example lets say there are a bunch of teenagers playing GTa on a psp and they catch an 11 year old playing pokemon when he says "i choose you" would you:

A. beat the $hit out of him for saying that.

b. beat the $hit out because hes playing pokemon.

or

C. go GTA on his ass pull a gun on him shoot him and steal his car.

» Yeah.... >_>

I won't deny that the DS has lots of kid-oriented games, but it's plenty fun to play anyway. There are plenty of non kid-oriented games.

If Mario and Zelda are considered kiddy though nowadays... man. That's not how I think of them. I must be getting old...

BTW, the DS also has Disgaea 1, you know.
