Media Create hardware charts show DSi LL living large in Japan

Damn. It seems Nintendo really can do no wrong in Japan when it comes to their DS handhelds. The latest DS iteration, the DSi LL, debuted at the top of Media Create's Japanese hardware charts by selling almost three times the number of units each of the rest of the top five consoles did.

The DSi LL sold an impressive 100,553 units, handily trouncing the PS3 and pushing it back to second place with 34,752 units sold. Enterbrain sets that number higher, however, pegging the handheld's sales at 103,524 units in its first two days.

While it's not quite as high as those posted by the DSi, the number's even more impressive when you consider that those are for the DSi LL alone. DSi and DS Lite numbers are counted separately. Man, the Japanese really love those things, don't they?

Here's the breakdown showing which console sold how many:

DSi LL: 100,553
PS3: 34,752
Wii: 32,844
PSP: 32,752
DSi: 32,070
DS Lite: 5,051
PSP Go: 4,574
Xbox 360: 4,085
PS2: 2,024

sony is making their screen sizes smaller with the release of the PSP Go while Nintendo and DSi LL have made their screens bigger i think that's pretty funny you know with the sales figures and all

I still don't understand how Nintendo make something which is basically the same thing but they propagate it so it sells. I have no idea how they propagate it so it sells.

Cause they have NDS, NDS lite, NDSi and then this DSi XL. They all sound like revision updates to a firmware after finding problems. But they still sell by the *****load.

Sony builds a new portable console (PSPGo) and it gets boycotted, flamed and finally nearly dumped by the userbase. And this console is a proper re-design not just enlarging and cropping thing Nintendo does.

I'm wearing normal jeans and have my DSi in my pocket right now.

I do worry about the DSiXL's size but I want it all the same. I usually have my iPhone with me now anyway.

Seeing as how the DSiLL/DSiXL is marketed towards older people, you both are obviously wrong.

You do realize that had Nintendo not released the DSiLL, we STILL would have seen a 6 digit sales figure?

Why are you surprise that when people went to a store to buy a DS and saw a cool new larger model that they wouldn't jump on it?
