Japan and them Wiis - Image 1The battle has come a long way. Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft fought valiantly to invade Japanese households. Numbers for May are finally here, and Ninty dominates across the board.

Bloomberg reports that the Wii outsold the PlayStation 3 five to one. 251,794 more units have been sold to further increase Nintendo's market share. In the handhelds race, the DS took the lead with 620,670 - 123,673 against PSP.

With limited third-party support, Microsoft's hefty Xbox 360 sold only 11,082. Will Mistwalker titles win the hearts of Japanese gamers? It doesn't look like Halo 3 is enough to be a driving force, even if it's expected to bring Microsoft's gaming division its first profitable quarter ever.

As if its huge lead wasn't enough, Nintendo believes that their Wii will reach thrice the households at the end of this fiscal year. Some believe that a number of PS3 games will "murder" the Wii, Microsoft is deadset on spreading its influence in the Land of the Rising Sun - will tides change? Time will tell.

To me...

The whole wii is just hype... like Ipods... but everyone have ipods.. just for the games... this for the fun... but nothing wow to me... but hey.. tahts just my opinion... I was thinking the same with the ds and look... still #1 portable... but isn't fun to me...

hey

So Nintendo is making the PSP? WHAT THE HELL DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH THE PSP!
by - 2007-06-04 17:43:44
hah

I could care less if the Wii dominates. Its crap. Developers won't put their bread and butter games on the Wii. It just isn't powerful enough. Of course it will get spinoffs but who is to say they will be good? Dragon Quest Swords sucks according to 1up. Dragon quest is one of the most popular games in japan and it has been butchered on the Wii. It is very frustrating to see Nintendo taking this path. Stick with your core audience 1st and make casual games also, is this so hard?

You could care less?

That implies you are concerned whether the Wii comes out on top or not... If you're going to try use a phrase like "I couldn't care less", at least use it properly. Besides, if you'd actually tried a Wii, you'd know it's a great console. May not have the type of games you like, and may not be the right console for you, but it's undeniably a good console. Same way that the 360 has no games I like, isn't going to be getting any either, it's all FPS and racing games. But I couldn't say it's a crap console. Oh, and you might not have noticed, but it's SE putting Dragon Quest on the Wii, Nintendo's nothing to do with that. Last thing. Dont trust a reviewers opinion. Make your own opinion about something based at least round gameplay videos, if not actually playing the game. Reviews are always highly opinionated, depending on the reviewers tastes, so it's best to avoid them. Wait till you've seen it being played normally. Not through a video showing flaws in the game (because thats all a site giving a bad review will show), before saying that a game has been butchered. Last thing. You havent got a clue whether developers will stick their main games onto it. It's a huge success, and is on its way to gaining the largest userbase of the generation, with a hugely varied market. It's even still got problems trying to keep up with supply in a lot of areas, so that userbase is just going to keep growing. Developers arent bothered what you think of the Wii. Or the 360 or PS3, that doesnt matter to them. All they care about is where the game will get the most sales, and if it's the Wii that'll give it the most sales, that's where it's going to go. And to your little power comment. Obviously, that doesnt matter to the majority of people or the PS3 wouldn't be getting a fifth of the sales the Wii gets. It didn't get the XBox a huge range of games either, and the PS2 still beat the Gamecube, so it didnt work there too. Power isnt as important as you think to people, and I doubt developers are going to choose the worst console for the game, jus because they can put the most enemies on at one time. You need to be more open minded about something like the Wii before ranting about it. It's not exactly following the normal and just increasing on the GC's specs, it's going off in a completely new direction, and with it being out less than 6 month, it's far too soon to assume anything about it. Especially since it's impossible to predict where it's going to go.

you should know better than to correct in discussion forums someone's grammar, spelling, punctiation usage, etc... you will never win and only make yourself look like an ass hole. there are also people here that might not have the English language as their primary language so the next time you feel like commenting on matters like those please just keep your mouth shut.

....

I hope this is not the way of the future. Putting outdated technology and selling it as a new console seems like the way to make money. I hope people snap out of their whims and get real consoles. Otherwise they're promoting half-a$$ s*** for the future.
by - 2007-06-04 19:31:19
no

All they are doing is giving people what they want. the best way to make money is listen to the people and then release what they want to have. Most people don't want a system that uses half-A$$ed ripped off technology and pay more that twice as much for it.

I agree....

the novelty and the price point are perfect.... To anyone who is not a 13-16 year old kid with an allowance, the price of the wii is nothing. I spend as much on 3 nights of drinking as I would on the wii....so why not buy it, even if you only play it for 30 hrs, it's still a good price/per hr..... I honestly wouldn't even put wii in the same category as 360 + PS3, it's just technologically inferior, and is something Nintendo should have put out as a "gamecube get you movin" or something dumb like that.....or even "lite" as it's much smaller....

....

like the wii? btw trust me. i tried it and its a little fun and all but its just BS! the motion is not that sentitive as you would think it is. And the wiimote feels like it will break if you just grab it a little harder. (imagine a toddler using all its strength, it will break the wiimote. that is how it feels.) I am just stumped at how nintendo succeeds with the cheapest and crappiest graphics ever! Oh and the wii console doesnt look as great as it does in the pics. It looked like an outdated cd drive.

i completely forgot about the xbox360!

This whole time i was only thinking of the wii and the ps3. Totally forgot the x360 until i read this article. btw who the hell cares about sales. That doesnt prove anything. it just proves that people are just too retarded to get the best system. i konw for sure that the wii will drop the price sooner or later.
