Mario games lead video game sales in UK |
Ó
Since its release in February, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games has topped the charts in the UK, only being bumped off for a week or two when a major title comes out. Now it seems it has finally conceded its reign on top... for another Mario game.
Mario Kart Wii, whose launch marked the biggest opening week for any Mario game in the UK, is on top yet again, and will likely stay there for quite some time. As it is though, Mario & Sonic is still going strong, sitting on second place in the sales charts.
The only new entry this week is UEFA Euro 2008 Austria-Switzerland, which entered at 8th place. Here are the rest of the top 10 games in the UK for the week of April 19:
- Mario Kart Wii
- Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games
- Gran Turismo 5: Prologue
- Pro Evolution Soccer 2008
- Sega Superstars Tennis
- Tom ClancyÂ’s Rainbow Six: Vegas 2
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
- UEFA Euro 2008
- Dr KawashimaÂ’s Brain Training
- Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

Nintendo on top again! Again, I'm not surprised.
This only further proves that FUN is the new popularity over processing power.
You know, GTA4 and all, wonder what the Nintendo fanboys will say then when the 360 and PS3 owners are enjoying a damn good game.
They'll either be playing it themselves or they'll go buy one of the mentioned consoles as it will most likely be a console mover or they wont say anything at all as there is nothing to say.
What did Nintendo fans have to say about Crysis? Bioshock? UT3?.....???
Seems pretty irrelevant, don't ya think?
what the hell? I play Nintendo systems more than others but I'm just going to get GTA4 for my 360. It's not a difficult task. Mario Kart was just released here and I'm pretty much addicted to that so GTA4 is going to have to wait, and then get put on pause when Smash Bros is out!
This isn't surprising. Mario Kart Wii is a beautiful and really fun game. It's the best in a very popular and very high ranking series. It was always going to be on top of sales.
