Manhunt 2 - Image 1

Now that we've heard what Rockstar has to say about Manhunt 2, let's take a look at another perspective to this upcoming title. Patrick and Giselle Pakeerah, parents of deceased son Stefan, have condemned the new game, whose announcement fell on the same month as their son's death.

"It is an insult to my son's memory that they have announced this game in the month we will be marking this anniversary," Mrs. Pakeerah said during a Leicester Mercury interview. "These game moguls are making a lot of money out of games which are morally indecent. Why do they have to pump more violence into society?"

It will be remembered that this title's predecessor, Manhunt, figured in a 2004 incident wherein Stefan Pakeerah, age 14, was murdered by friend Warren LeBlanc, age 17. The Pakeerahs blamed Leblanc's actions on his addiction to the aforementioned title, although the police dismissed that the game had little influence in Leblanc's actions, instead marking the case as a drug-related robbery. Leblanc is currently serving a life sentence for his crime. We bring this news in light of recent movements to help prevent incidents like this from happening again.

i dont see sword slashing mofos around, but i do know 10million people played final fantasy 7

» What you aren't saying is this:

The game Manhunt WASN'T found by police in Warren LeBlancs home.. it was found in the VICTIMS home. This is another case of an idiot passing blame on a game rather than the scumbag who did the deed.

by Rags - 2007-02-08 06:17
» idiots

who is really to blame that the kid does stupid things, the game that serves the purpose of enjoyment or the parents that teach the kid how to live in society, the game isn't to blame is the kid doesn't know reality from fiction, that's what the kid should've been thatught, BY HIS PARENTS

by Koru-Kun - 2007-02-08 06:20
» hmm..

The police didn't find crucial evidence that supports that Manhunt had a significant (if any at all) effect on the motive to this 17 year old kid murdering the 14 year old kid. I can see how the parents would like to place blame on something such as violent video games but if they don't trust in the police report and the case, then that error is on their own.

The media most likely blew this story out of proportion with all the constant issues of violence in video games nowadays. But the main point of this topic is this:

Knowingly or unknowingly, Rockstar DID announce it's sequel of Manhunt in the same month as the murder took place. Whether this is a stab back at the parents for wrongful placement of blame and trying to slander the name of Rockstar or just a simple mishap that just coincidentally ended up being announced in this month... it's still unthoughtful in regards to how this couple feels about their tragic loss.

Rockstar riled up the horrible acts from the past but depending on if this was done on purpose or just a mistake, this can either make or break the current rep of Rockstar.

by Nevermind - 2007-02-08 06:30
» ...

Say what you want about Manhunt not influencing people, but you've got to see it from the victims family's point of view. Im sure I'd say similar things if I was in that position.

by Rags - 2007-02-08 06:40
» no one is to blame

I think that no one should get the blame, maybe the parents didn't teach tehir child right maybe the child just didn't learn, the parents might not have had any fault the kid did that, and the kid might just be an idiot, who knows, it was an accident for shure.

by Ahem - 2007-02-08 06:54
» erm..

Isn't the current rep of Rockstar based on controversy anyway? I can't see this damaging them. Besides look at my statement above, the victim owned the game, not the killer. Either way tho, I can't wait for the release.

If the kid was addiced to a game, that's his problem. The creators are not responsible in any way. With that kind of logic we ought to stop using knives to cut up our food as well, since they can be used to kill.

by Rags - 2007-02-08 07:41
» logic

Logic is a thing that people need, there should be a test of logic before they sold any games to people, 1st games or producers have no blame for people doing idiotic things, if they do those things it's because they have no logic, oh I'm gonna kill my friend WTF is up with a guy that says this, and WTF is wrong with the kid who lets him ... dunno what happened but I'd kick his ass if he tried that kind of *****, if he were stronger than me, I'd run, anything, bit letting myself get killed, god what the hell is happening to kids these days, and i'm only 17.

» Idiot logic..

Uhuh... Didnt you guys know that right before Kane bashed his brother Able's head in with a rock that he was playing GTA?

Turns out that humans were only violent AFTER the invent of video games...

Now... How the hell do we explain the current trend of youth violence being at an all time low (As published by the FBI)?

by zypah - 2007-02-08 08:12
» i'd like to

i'd like to take everyone of these morons out and shove a fist right up everyone of there asses... but it might turn out that video games made me do it....

or it could be the fact that parents are ridiculous now-a-days and try and brainwash there kids.

i don't understand it anymore, YOU PEOPLE (PARENTS) are so ignorant any more. where did you learn some of this bull*****? your son died im sorry get the ***** over it... Eddie murphy released a movie on my birthday SHOULD I PISSED OFF?

ugh i don't even wanna comment... go ***** yourself.

This is why parents are bad

my 2 cents.

by Playa - 2007-02-08 09:30
» Who Cares?

People die every farking day - big deal..

Everyone has raised good points;

*Manhunt was found in the victims home, not the convicts

*Parents need to be responsible for their kids.

*Kids need to be responsible for their own actions

*Violence has, and will always be a part of human nature

*RockStar thrive in this sort of publicity, my bet is if they did it on purpose, but maybe not.. Who remembered these idiots before MH2 was announced? Not me..

People need to wake up and start taking responsibility for their actions, and in Parents cases, their kids. FFS..

i know what the current rep of Rockstar is, and that is why i was saying that if Rockstar released this info on purpose... it would be devastating to the company (making it more infamous). It would damage them quite harshly if they did it on purpose, especially in the eyes of the market considering it would be vindictive.

I don't CARE about who owned the game and in my statement I never mentioned or placed blame for who owned the game. I'm NOT blaming the game for anything, and you'd know that if you read my post *properly*. I'm not placing blame on anybody, i'm ONLY stating the facts of the case and the consequences of the decision.

by Koru-Kun - 2007-02-08 11:13
» woah

You sir, need to shut the hell up about this issue. What you said it TOTALLY uncalled for, you immature brat! "your son died im sorry get the ***** over it" EXCUSE ME?! How about somebody goes and murders you whole damned family, would you like that you heartless ass?!

You just don't get it, Eddie Murphy didn't murder your innocent child and then knowingly or unknowingly make a movie that he is acting as a person that kills a child in that movie and release it on the same month as your child died now did he?

You AREN'T a parent, so you have NO GROUND to dictate whether or not parents are bad. You don't think before you speak, and you certainly don't think about others... only yourself. Your two cents aren't worth the crap it was made out of.

Grow up, get a job, and just be another lemming in society because your opinions aren't going to get you much higher in life than that.

You are a pathetic, disturbed, heartless, sickening, psychotic, euthanasia supporting, excuse for a human being. On the other hand, i'm sure that the S-P group loves you, so for the sake of the life of idiots in this world... please live on and keep your focus off of the things such as morality and wisdom.

» the world is hostile, so impersonal. get over it

im really growing tired of this same story. kid dies, parents blame video game. perhaps these people should spend more time with their kids. i dont feel sorry for them at all. people die every day, and to get pissed off because a company simply "announced" their upcoming game in the same month that their innocent child died is very self absorbed and selfish. death is very real, it happens every day, and weather you want to agree or not, people cant get enough of it. there is nothing significant in their story. this kid was not special, just as no kid is any more special than the next. so please, pick up the pieces and move on.

"no kid is special than the next"

don't tell me there are some out there that favor say, baby jesus, than another random baby.

i'd say it's all in your psychology, rather the part that makes you think no one is better, or, if you favor more people than others.

by Grmbl - 2007-02-08 19:39
» Huh?

I'm almost ready to bet that parents are after money. Parents' "PR job" regarding this death makes me sick.

EVEN IF the killer turns to be Manhunt fan (which he is not as police found) it is completely PARENTS' responsibility - they should not let him play in first place. Why the ***** do you need game age ratings for then?

But no, they try to put blame on everyone else and their dog but not on themselves. Retards.

by hmmm - 2007-02-08 22:47
» damn

stupid parents, took the easy way out blaming other people, should've looked after their own kid more

guess we should ban video games and just move on to drugs and guns

if we keep blaming and banning, we'll eventually hit the spot and get rid of the real problem
