Together with two new screenshots, publisher Buena Vista Games has also published a list of artists who'll be gracing your ears in Q Entertainment's highly anticipated follow-up to the PSP puzzle classic Lumines. These are all very popular musicians and this list shows that Buena Vista is really upping the ante regarding puzzle game soundtracks.
So here's the final list of songs included in Lumines II:
- Beck – “Black Tambourine”
- Black Eyed Peas – “Pump It”
- Chemical Brothers – “Star Guitar”
- Fatboy Slim – “Gangster Trippin’”
- The Go! Team – “Bottle Rocket”
- Gwen Stefani – “Hollaback Girl”
- Hoobastank – “Born to Lead”
- Junior Senior – “Take My Time”
- Missy Elliott – “Lose Control”
- New Order – “TBD”
- Junkie XL – “Breezer”
- Stigmato Inc – “Reality Check”
“In order to showcase my vision for ‘Lumines II,’ we needed to find music and videos with just the right tone, mix and energy to incorporate into the game. I couldn’t be happier with the result and am excited to get the game into players’ hands."
All in all, the soundtrack seems to be offering a nice variety of styles, and should work pretty well within the game's context - though if you ask me, more tracks by The Go! Team would have made it even cooler. Personal preferences aside, Lumines II will be hitting North American stores in November, hoping to continue and improve on the original game's success.

Great... Hoobastank and Missy Elliot in the soundtrack.. I think they've just ruined Lumines for me. The one thing I absolutely loved about Lumines was its original soundtrack; the collection of those abstract beats, synths, and sound FX that just enveloped you into the game. I doubt I'll be experiencing any completely engrossing moments like that with "Hoobastank" running through my head... Sad. I always like what Mizuguchi does with his games, but I must say, this move is disappointing.

They ruined Lumines.
Maybe the Japanese version will have j-pop on it - it'll save me from throwing my psp against the wall whenever Fergie's ugly mug shows up.
maybe they should allow for like custom soundtracks. but not like gta cause thats really annoying. they should allow u to use the music that u can listen to under the music icon in the psp screen

Shut up hatters!! It's not all about music in Lumines but also gameplay and thats more important to me. Maybe bopping your head to something familiar will make lumines better, maybe, I just hope they add more game modes cause I still play the first one everyday, I still can't get to the last Vs Computer guy, that game is like CRACK!! So Lumines II shold be like HEROINE!! SWEET!!

seriously pop music needs to put a 45 up its ass and pull the trigger how hard is it to actually have a band instead of standing on stage and lip synching.... to all the real bands out there the greendays and system of a downs i applaud you oh and the only musician i aprove of on the list is beck beck is awesome
i agree, the abstract music is what really draws me in, the fact that your actions in the game determine the beat and synths of the music. i dont see how they're going to do that with proper songs.

i couldnt disagree more. without the music lumines is just a tetris clone, only not quite as fun. it was the music that got me interested in the game and that has totally been killed in this one.
The gameplay may be quite the same. I would buy the ne Lumines even if it had same setup... But not with Hollaback Girl, or any of those other GD bands. It's awful, Why not make custom soundtracks aplicable, or possibly... just J pop, or that abstract stuff they had. Don't mainstream Lumine's music...
Most suck-tastic songs will surely bring people into gaming. I'm sure many gangsta girls will dig this now that their Hollaback gurl in on here! Yo yo yo! PEACE! *barfs*
They have chosen some of the worst songs for this game. This game deserves JPop songs from Eri Nobuchika, globe, Hikaru Utada, Nami Tamaki, Kumi Koda, day after tomorrow and not the crap I am seeing now. Even some JRock would do much better like ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR, and ZONE.
what I find more disturbing is the number of people who can't spell...
i personally dont think it would be possible to do the custom music unless the game would be smart enough to fit it into the game play. all of the songs in the first one interacted with the gameplay, remixing as you made combos or didnt make combos, i think that wouldnt work very well with custom music, but who knows....

gta liberty city stories had no need for custom soundtracks. this, on the other hand, is begging for it. lumines is an awesome game, but this was a bad idea. now i gotta figure out what port the tampon goes into on my psp.......oh and the only way to possibly fix this is to release rez on psp, with force feedback, screw every extra extend.

Unfortunately there is some very mainstream music in the soundtrack of Lumines this time, but please stop ditching it because it has artists like Gwen Stefani or Black Eyed Peas. YOU may not like it, but there are tons of people who do. And the rest of the soundtrack looks nice to, I see some artists of whom I have never heard before and some which are less popular but create great music. It's great that Mizuguchi incorporates a lot of different styles in the game instead of putting only popular garbage in it. And if you read the newspost completely you'll see that Mondo Grosso will be creating some new skins to. There will still be regular skins with the typical, abstract Lumines music! Also Ken Ishii will be creating some skins, most of you probably never heard of him but anyone who played Rez will probably still remember his track in that game, it was awesome! I only hope there will be enough new game modes to keep experienced players busy.
the only reason green day and system of a down are mainstream is because they were so good that it had to happen and don't call green day generic this is america where to get a record deal you have to be young and good looking and when a man in his 30's can get on stage and the american youth reason with him thats anything but generic

2-3 of those songs suck complete arse, they really do. Come on though this is Lumines II it should have it's own custom list of songs created purley for the game. I don't want to crack open such a great game to hear songs i've heard 1000's of times before on the radio.

Isn't this the same f*cking game with slightly different graphics and music? Buy the original for much cheaper and use iRshell to listen to your own damn music while playing. Also you don't need to "upgrade" your firmware with the old one.

Ahh the trolls. An integral part of posts/forums. Very useful just like pustules on your butt. Obviously these freaks here aren't fans of Lumines. There's a nice little button you can put to good use if you don't like the music. Push and hold that music note on your PSP dork wads. Granted, some of these artists I could care less of, but that won't stop me from buying this game. I'm a fan of Lumines and I will definitely purchase it.

Look I don't disagree that the songs are terrible but remember they won't be in their orginal forms they will be those remix type things which imo could make the songs bearable well only just.
Trolls? Somehow I think when 99% of the thread says the same thing from different people, it's not trolling, it's outrage. And you're going to buy Lumines 2 and mute it? Enjoy your Lumines 1... the same puzzle at different speeds with no sound... yay! Well, I guess there are skins that get reused every few levels...
I know it's a futile effort at this point, but does anyone know who can be contacted to at least voice an opinion about this? I personally believe this will ruin the game. Even if you actually like this crap music, you'll get sick of it pretty quick. I'd at least like to tell SOMEONE up there that this is a terrible, terrible idea. Simple marketing and demographic study would show that this is a suicide.
Damn, I really can't believe this *****. They just ruined Lumines for almost every gamer around. I'll stick to my dearly beloved Lumines I, there's no point in getting a game with such horrid music. I mean, a couple of those songs could be OK, but that many? At first I though "Maybe Japan and America will get different versions", but after reading that quote of Mizuguchi, it looks like everybody will get the same thing. Too bad, I was expecting so much, and now... :(
This is my theory why Lumines and Mecury meltdown are sequals that respectively sound and look like shyt. It is a genetic disorder running through all Japanese that causes them to blow a good thing and not know the difference. You can track this discorder way back to the two A-bombs that we gently guided onto their lands. . What is the cure? . ....MORE A-BOMBS....

the WHOLE point of lumines. apart from being a very engrossing and challenging puzzle game.. was.. That is a really horrible soundtrack. What the hell did they do, take a Now That's I Call Music CD and make that their soundtrack? Seriously. I enjoyed Lumines, but with a cheap-ass music soundtrack like this, it's looks like this game may go the way o the Movie UMDs, disregarding the people who go for music like that, about 3-5% of the general population.
lol not ALL of it, theres that super slow song thats all disco like and stuff (I Hear the Music in my Soul), There we some other great tracks in Lumines, like Sister Walk, My Generation, Auto Mobile Industry, and Round About. A heavier feel that made you more envolved with the music. Lumines: danceish, jazz, industrial, etc. (notice how diverse it is) Lumines II: Rap, Pop, Rap, oh hey a techno song, rap, pop, pop (notice how unbelievably *****ty this is) I was all pumped to buy this, now I wont even look at its cover in the store.
