Leipzig: PSP-3000 officially announced *Update* details, bundles for North America |
Ó
The event currently going down at Leipzig is now officially more exciting than E3. Taking the ace out of its sleeve, Sony has just officially announced the PSP-3000 at their press conference. Speculate no more folks, here's the skinny.
According to David Reeves, the PSP-3000 will have its own built-in microphone, and has an enhanced LCD screen that will “increase intensity and the number of colours that can be displayed – and is easier to view in natural light."
That's a pic of it up there. The unit will launch on October 15 in PAL territories, tagged at EUR 199 (US$ 292).

*Update* We now also got word from the US Sony blogs that the PSP-3000 is also coming to North America as part of the Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters PSP Entertainment Pack bundle. They've also now announced a PSP 4GB Memory Entertainment Pack which includes a 4GB memstick PRO Duo.
The Entertainment Packs with the updated PSP-3000 will be retailed for the same standard price of US$ 199.99. And later on this year, Sony will be releasing the PSP-3000 Core Pack, which will also keep its regular price of US$ 169.99.

* Built-in microphone
* Improved UMD lens system with less power usage
* More durable case
* Longer-life battery (~4200mAh)
* 480p video output being considered, might not be in the final (vs. 480i in the PSP-2000)
BTW, the first gen PSP-3000 will NOT have the LCD with the quicker response time; if you want that, hold off until they start selling them in the multi-colored starter packs.

Up until then, the core pack will still have the first gen PSP3000 LCD.

Wait, wait, wait. WHAT?
What, exactly, is significantly different between the DS and the DS Lite?
Reply
see it goes like this
ds + ds (argue that one, i dare you)
ds lite + ds + lite.
see, its still the same system, not a new system, they just put a light in it (fantastic btw, if you liked the ds. also, if youve ever esed a nintendo handheld product then you knew already that this would happen.)
so really. . . i hate to have to do this but it seems youre just replying for the sake of replying and if i werent bored i really wouldnt care. . . not that i do. . . just that im bored.
have a great one :)

Well the design look exactly the same,only that the side is curved and button Home is changed to PS.
GOSH! The RAM is still the same. 64MB. WIFI too! (IEEE 802.11b). MAKE IT TO (802.11g)!
I thought Sony would put HDD to the PSP.
NOT WORTH IT IF I UPGRADE. CAUSE IT JUST HAS SMALL CHANGE TO THE PSP.
But how about the Touchscreen feature?
Did sony send to FCC for test? Did they confirm to have it?
Maybe it will be in the next PSP(PSP-4000).

With the current DCs using the 4.xx kernel, it should be relatively easier to get it working on the new PSPs assuming they've got the Custom IPL working somehow.

Given the lack of new games I can't see the point in this upgrade - at least Homebrew gives me something new every once in a while, and if Hellboy is any indication, we're in for a dirth of crap Western titles.
The system is too knackered by piracy to recover in the West. Sony are stuck really - they won't invest in a new product because the console sales are so high globally (especially in Japan), but they can't get the developers on board because it's been hacked to pieces. If they did release a new console they'd piss off all the existing customers, and there's no guarantee anyone would create games for it.
It's a tough position to be in, but I love Sony for producing such an awesome product, just a shame they didn't get it quite right for the market first time out...

its homebrew proof, it definitely is, instead of just changing the mobo, they have changed the battery style, and the battery eeprom read. the psp can no longer read the batt serial to go into service mode, instead, when it needs to be serviced, there is an access port in the system
also, the battery is using a newer style, its slightly more efficent, but changes the shape of the battery cells, making it so that you can no longer use a service mode battery, even if D.AleX could hack the newer mobo, there is no way we are going to be able to soft mod it.
im not saying goodbuy to homebrew just yet, im staying with my phat and slim.

Also Pandora's battery (well, specifically the fakesigning of the IPL) has already been blocked on TA-088v3 motherboards in the PSP-2000 model. This is, as Sony have said, to add a brighter screen and microphone, there's really nothing else to it other than spreading the "PS Button" brand icon too :S

the screen comparison is great, nice selling point making me think i might pick one up and retire my phat strictly for homebrew.

As much as I hate piracy, I hope the PSP-3000 gets hacked for homebrew and ISOs. I don't mind carying around 20 or so DS carts, but UMDs are a a pain to carry in bulk. I much prefer ripping my games to an MS and leaving my library at home.
I plan to get a 3000 when it comes out, I held off on getting a 2000 in anticipation of more changes. Here's hoping I don't get burned.

Another thing they should do is put a second analog stick on it. Mods have proven that it can be done, as in there is the physical space to do it. There should be enough room for the circuitry as well. This would make so many PS1 games worth buying for PSP and give future PSP games a much needed camera control. FPS games on PSP are a pain with the current default controls.

The old hacks surely won't work on this new PSP. It will get hacked, we just have to wait.

would you really prefer a new non-bc 80gb over an original partial-bc 80? Luckily I have a launch 60 that still runs like a dream (knocks on wood)
