Leipzig: PSP-3000 officially announced *Update* details, bundles for North America |
Ó
The event currently going down at Leipzig is now officially more exciting than E3. Taking the ace out of its sleeve, Sony has just officially announced the PSP-3000 at their press conference. Speculate no more folks, here's the skinny.
According to David Reeves, the PSP-3000 will have its own built-in microphone, and has an enhanced LCD screen that will “increase intensity and the number of colours that can be displayed – and is easier to view in natural light."
That's a pic of it up there. The unit will launch on October 15 in PAL territories, tagged at EUR 199 (US$ 292).

*Update* We now also got word from the US Sony blogs that the PSP-3000 is also coming to North America as part of the Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters PSP Entertainment Pack bundle. They've also now announced a PSP 4GB Memory Entertainment Pack which includes a 4GB memstick PRO Duo.
The Entertainment Packs with the updated PSP-3000 will be retailed for the same standard price of US$ 199.99. And later on this year, Sony will be releasing the PSP-3000 Core Pack, which will also keep its regular price of US$ 169.99.

Comments [refresh]
is that all that they changed?
maybe they blocked CFW via the Pandora Battery and oh they changed the price now a PSP 2000 and 3000 will cost more than a PS3
what i was thinking.... just like they're FW updates... meager....
What if DAX purposely din't release hack details of the TA-88v3 mobo so that SONY would release this new PSP thinking we couldn't mod it???? I hope DAX has an ace up his sleeve...
also announced:
New PS3 SKU (160GB) with Uncharted bundled
PSP-3000 pics
PS3 wireless keypad
more on blog.us.playstation.com
If the image represents the actual production model, it would appear that the circles which define the dpad and button sections are concave. Anyone else hope this is the case?
FISKA NO BUY
also is will be $169 not no 300. http://blog.us.playstation.com/ price is right there. for standalone psp-3000
the circles do look concave but nothing digital
No, it looks like they beveled the image in photoshop which caused the d-pad to look weird.
I'll keep my PSP1001 thanks. Wasn't interested in the 2000, and not interested in this one. Mine works fine, gets great battery life and has IR, which i still use often enough to not give it up.
i bought the 1001
then 2000 came out right after
and in short time, this COMES OUT!!
GAHSDHASHDAHSDH AHSDHASD!!!
well it has the new PS button and no PS Logo in the top right corner
The wave in the pic looks different than normal, did they change that as well?
i want a 2nd analog sitck
"The PSP-3000 will be replacing the Mystic Silver colored PSP that comes with the Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters bundle."
So what happens to the Star Wars white and God of War red PSP-2000s? Are those simply being phased out or still for sale?
all those bastards that said the psp-3000 was fake? huh????? in your face!
***** u sony first they made me buy 60gb for 599.99 plus tax then 80gb which comes with more stuff than
the 60gb cost 499.99 now 160 499.99 than they gonna make 220gb after i buy the 160gb which im not going to buy for ***** sack ***** sony
sony is stupid i bought five psp total now they make 3000 after i buy it than they gonna make 4000 and the price will be cheaper thats sony fucjing problem
The production of the Star Wars Bundle has been stopped long ago.
Sony's not stupid at all if you bought 5 because of all of this haha...
The PSP has been stripped of its Home button, it's now a PS button....
in 2004. PSP=PSP=PSP just like my PSX and my PS2 (phat). I'm an early adopter and i can acept the trade offs for getting a system early in its life. I don't know why some people whine like sony just released a psp that has sex with you. Who cares? i got my psp with FW 4.04. Don't care for homebrew
why not a little more ram and othe cpu improvement I mean the PSP CPU was out dated first year it was out WTF
hope this isn't all the details about the 3000.
i'm not buying it if can't run homebrew. that's just that.
i still have my 1001.
xD
has an enhanced LCD screen that will “increase intensity and the number of colours that can be displayed – and is easier to view in natural light."
I just got my slim last month and they come up with this *****, with this comes the hope of no more glare, this is the one thing they should've done better and they do it until now
Mother*****erss sssss!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!
unless its the pspphone ordeal, this is kinda meaningless.you can hardwire a mic into your psp if you want.and the ps button instead of home.lmfao whoopde *****ing do.brighter screen?i got custom firmware extender that makes the backlight function brighter.so that means nothing to me as well
helo pspupdates.qj.net didnt make the website so you can say al that if u dont like then dont buy it its not gonna make you but it so the can make another one.... you really thought the are watching you al and then when every oen bought a slim ow every one has one lets make new one, wel the dont deal with it!, dont like it dont cry the next time better!
It's a simulated screen image.
Sony has came out with Biggest BS idea yet! Let`s take a psp, add a microphone, slightly brighter screen, and put a PS logo for home and make the lower buttons oval! Then we`ll name it the PSP-3000! These major new features will surely make those current psp owners upgrade for $170, which we hope many these suckers will do! Sadly, this is true and will happen.
* Brighter LCD with quicker response time (12ms vs the current 60ms in the slim - prevents ghosting and black smearing)
* Built-in microphone
* Improved UMD lens system with less power usage
* More durable case
* Longer-life battery (~4200mAh)
* 480p video output being considered, might not be in the final (vs. 480i in the PSP-2000)
BTW, the first gen PSP-3000 will NOT have the LCD with the quicker response time; if you want that, hold off until they start selling them in the multi-colored starter packs.
my source is my usual source for insider stuff...
That's why you never run out an buy the first. Good things come to those who wait. The proof is shown with
PS3 80 gig and new 80 gig
Xbox 360 elite
PSP Slim
DS lite
PS2 slim
PSX
GBA SP
The list goes on. Thing is simple patience.
Hey Freeplay,
What do you mean by multi-colored starter packs?
I want make full use of my investment and consider a great upgrade from PSP-1001.
Thanks for the insider info!
I was holding off buying a new model until this came out, but it seems I will need to wait even longer considering the faster refresh rate.
Thanks for the info, guess I will just continue holding out and hope a solid looking one (other then black) comes out.
especially since i just got a slim this summer.
GO *****ING LEARN HOW TO SPEAK ENGLISH!
Seriously, man. WHAT THE FU@K! Are you 9 years old or something?!
how'd they get that much battery life? thats like double anything they ever had.
Here is a few links that may explain why I wonder on the when:

Being on sale does not equate to being in production. just an FYI.
I don't think Sony changed enough on the system to make customers buy. If you look at Nintendo's record, every new system had a new design and new features. If Sony really wants to wow its fans they should do a completely new design. The least they could do was fix the true downfalls of the system such as another analog stick.
My understanding is that they'll have a bunch of different colors of a 'core' pack, which will be just the PSP, maybe a soft case and wrist strap or whatever junk they normally throw in there. Once those come around we should be seeing the new LCD.
Up until then, the core pack will still have the first gen PSP3000 LCD.
"If you look at Nintendo's record, every new system had a new design and new features."
Wait, wait, wait. WHAT?
What, exactly, is significantly different between the DS and the DS Lite?
@ freeplay's observation. . .
see it goes like this
ds + ds (argue that one, i dare you)
ds lite + ds + lite.
see, its still the same system, not a new system, they just put a light in it (fantastic btw, if you liked the ds. also, if youve ever esed a nintendo handheld product then you knew already that this would happen.)
so really. . . i hate to have to do this but it seems youre just replying for the sake of replying and if i werent bored i really wouldnt care. . . not that i do. . . just that im bored.
have a great one :)
it seems that +'s and + signs are being retarded. happened to another guys post up yonder i reckon too. whats up with that. plus is not equal, and vise versa. qj you guys should maybe fix, methinks.
I see that now, thanks; I should have figured because there's no time/date etc
So the rumour in China is true?!
Well the design look exactly the same, only that the side is curved and button Home is changed to PS.
GOSH! The RAM is still the same. 64MB. WIFI too! (IEEE 802.11b). MAKE IT TO (802.11g)!
I thought Sony would put HDD to the PSP.
NOT WORTH IT IF I UPGRADE. CAUSE IT JUST HAS SMALL CHANGE TO THE PSP.
But how about the Touchscreen feature?
Did sony send to FCC for test? Did they confirm to have it?
Maybe it will be in the next PSP(PSP-4000).
...then why not the D-Pad? Me want diagonals without having to get a stick-on pad that makes the PSP hard to put away in a case.
the new 80 gig is just a 40 gig with 40 more gigs of hd space. honestly there is no reason to get upset, just appreciate what u have and if the new harddrive sizes and price changes really bother you , buy a harddrive offline. they have great deals online for hard drives compatible with the ps3. i was looking at a 250 gig for 90 bucks a while back. Sony just doing what they do best and that's simply selling their product by any means nessecary.
Thats very possible. They were originally planning to withhold Pandora until the Slim was released. But in that case it wasn't compatible with the Slim anyway so their surprise didn't really get ruined.
With the current DCs using the 4.xx kernel, it should be relatively easier to get it working on the new PSPs assuming they've got the Custom IPL working somehow.
Sony can't upgrade the system beyond the original basic spec, as older systems wouldn't be able to run newer games - it's why there's no second nub.
Given the lack of new games I can't see the point in this upgrade - at least Homebrew gives me something new every once in a while, and if Hellboy is any indication, we're in for a dirth of crap Western titles.
The system is too knackered by piracy to recover in the West. Sony are stuck really - they won't invest in a new product because the console sales are so high globally (especially in Japan), but they can't get the developers on board because it's been hacked to pieces. If they did release a new console they'd piss off all the existing customers, and there's no guarantee anyone would create games for it.
It's a tough position to be in, but I love Sony for producing such an awesome product, just a shame they didn't get it quite right for the market first time out...
People are gunna eat this up. sure it doesnt have much more than the old one, but its new and shiny and has this and that small feature. all the little kids are going to annoy their parents into buying this.
its homebrew proof, it definitely is, instead of just changing the mobo, they have changed the battery style, and the battery eeprom read. the psp can no longer read the batt serial to go into service mode, instead, when it needs to be serviced, there is an access port in the system
also, the battery is using a newer style, its slightly more efficent, but changes the shape of the battery cells, making it so that you can no longer use a service mode battery, even if D.AleX could hack the newer mobo, there is no way we are going to be able to soft mod it.
im not saying goodbuy to homebrew just yet, im staying with my phat and slim.
This can be a good update but only if it's hackable. If it is then it was worth it to make this update cause i would like a built in microphone and a beter screen although I'm not so sure i woud like to have to buy a whole new psp cause I don't have that much money.
please visit my site at http://www.thepspblog.com/
its not worth it, if this insider news from ``FreePlay`` is correct, and the battery really is using the newer style of lithium ion battery, our last hope for the new mother boards is gone, pandora will not work on the new one.
Wonder if the new screen could be removed and added to Slim... Hackable and upgraded ^^
..PSP-4000 then.
The speakers are no longer at the bottom of the PSP. They are on front of the PSP, right below the bumpers.
They already WERE! Search PSP-2000 (slim+lite) on Google images. Tard.
Also Pandora's battery (well, specifically the fakesigning of the IPL) has already been blocked on TA-088v3 motherboards in the PSP-2000 model. This is, as Sony have said, to add a brighter screen and microphone, there's really nothing else to it other than spreading the "PS Button" brand icon too :S
We did not said its fake...Sony itself said it was fake.
Fake my ass! lol
you are so gangsta.
not
GTFOH and play with your *****ty UMD games.
next model will have verzion wireless EVDO with touch screen.
Quckly return it to wal-mart and said that I already got one.
are they gonna retool the psp until we get a psp2
Phase 1.- Make a little stupid upgrade to my overhacked system that has no developer support
Phase 2.- ???????
Phase 3.- Profit
Its simple economics, they are a business.
Actually, people said the PHOTOS were fake.
just because it wont support pandora doesnt necessarily make it unhackable. there were numerous hacks to allow homebrew on the psp before pandora was released. GTA:LCS , lumines and there buffer overflow bugs which allowed you to load HEN, eloader and ultimately downgraders etc etc, all out before pandora.
Comparison photos from Famitsu comparing psp2000-psp3000. the one to look at is the screen comparison.

the screen comparison is great, nice selling point making me think i might pick one up and retire my phat strictly for homebrew.

It's just a matter of time.
As much as I hate piracy, I hope the PSP-3000 gets hacked for homebrew and ISOs. I don't mind carying around 20 or so DS carts, but UMDs are a a pain to carry in bulk. I much prefer ripping my games to an MS and leaving my library at home.
I plan to get a 3000 when it comes out, I held off on getting a 2000 in anticipation of more changes. Here's hoping I don't get burned.
I hope they are. This would help so much in so many games.
Another thing they should do is put a second analog stick on it. Mods have proven that it can be done, as in there is the physical space to do it. There should be enough room for the circuitry as well. This would make so many PS1 games worth buying for PSP and give future PSP games a much needed camera control. FPS games on PSP are a pain with the current default controls.
True, but with each turn of the battle Sony gets wiser and the hacks get tougher. I often say any lock can be broken, but each more secure lock takes more time to break.
The old hacks surely won't work on this new PSP. It will get hacked, we just have to wait.
What there doing is trying to push the psp 1001 into the past so it can become uncompatbiblewh ile making the new ones unhackable and i've been on the scene for about a year and sometime now
Scratch and oil resistant screen/faceplate. They could learn something from Apple on this from the iPhone/iPod Touch.
It seems the TA-088 V3 motherboard was probably just a test for the PSP-3000...
It seems my first conspiracy stands. Add something to the PSP (something possibly small), mass produce it and lower price, and make it unPanorizable. Now, they only have to stop production of the Slim, and until DAX hacks the PSP-3000, it's all good for Sony...
i hate sony. what they always do is sell u something that is supposedly made of the latest technology but then a few months l8tr they release a better version of the item. for example although it hasnt been posted on this website. Sony a preparing to make a PS3 SLIM.
do u know what im going to do? Im going to get a psp 3000 to see if i can hack it. if i cant i wil just send it back
in the case of the PS3, i think the early adopters where the ones who really got the deal. The PS3 has been getting stripped of hardware and features for software updates.
would you really prefer a new non-bc 80gb over an original partial-bc 80? Luckily I have a launch 60 that still runs like a dream (knocks on wood)
