Computec Media AG of Germany will launch "play vanilla" - the worldÂ’s first games magazine for women. The company said the magazine will address the female gaming market that has been overlooked until now. "play vanilla" can be summed up in four words: fresh, bold, upbeat and feminine. The first gaming magazine for women promises to present games with "sense and soul." It will feature various electronic products and gadgets in smart designs.
According to industry stats, the number of women gamers have been enjoying surges in growth all over the world. Many of today's best-selling games are were bought by a significant number of female players. Digit-takers also showed 44% of Nintendo DS gamers are women while 25% of all mobile game downloads were made by the ladies.
"play vanilla will be serving an interest group that has so far been woefully neglected, a group with enormous potential and specific requirements," explains Petra Fröhlich, Editor-in-Chief of play vanilla and PC Games:
Women want to play too, but are quite different from men in the demands they place on a game. A magazine like play vanilla is inevitable with the increasing numbers of female gamers and games with specifically female appeal. Focus groups and games publishers have shown excellent reactions to play vanilla.
The maiden issue of first "play vanilla" will be appearing on December 4 as a supplement to the next issue of "Joy Lifestyle" magazine German edition. The regular issue will be available starting March 2007.
