Ladies who got videogame at the 2007 CES |
Ó
Attention all you male chauvinist gamer pigs, pretty soon videogames won't be a man's world. The lady gamers are moving in and the signs are everywhere. A new magazine, play vanilla, just for lady gamers is coming out next year. The Frag Dolls and the PMS, both all female FPS clans are kicking ass with their skills. And why do you think Sony rolled out the Pink PSP and Nintendo their fashion accessories-friendly colored DS?But the biggest proof that estrogen and testosterone are destined to collide is "Understanding the Female Gamer" - a panel discussion for targeting female gamers and other non-traditional players at the 2007 International CES in Las Vegas. Moderated by Ismini Boinodiris Roby, the panel is made up of notable gaming experts including Mary Margaret Walker and Sheri Graner Ray.
While their names may sound like they're more at home baking cookies and folding the laundry, they are women on forefront of the movement. Roby is co-founder and Chief Editor of WomenGamers.com. Walker is CEO and co-founder of Mary-Margaret.com, a leader in international recruitment services for the interactive entertainment industry, while Ray is a Game Design Consultant and author of "Gender Inclusive Game Design."
These ladies will be joined by Robert Riedl, Executive Producer, Her Interactive, Inc. and Jason Rubinstein, Senior Director of Global Product Marketing, Mobile Devices Business, Motorola, Inc.
This session will focus on a Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) survey which found that women gamers outnumber men gamers in the 25-34 age group. Yes, guys, if you're in that age group you're in the minority. Better get used to the idea of being pwned by the girls every now and then.

It's because a lot of the newer titles aren't as 'gender specific', meaning there's fewer 'girl games' with color-pallets of pink, white, black, and pink. Seriously, it's a retarded concept.
The best way to get girl gamers is to just make good games.
Good games? If the current lists of good games aren't good enough, then I don't know what is. Halo, MGS, FF, Tekken, Zelda, GTA, Resident Evil just to name a few. Revolutionary games, and yet they don't appeal to girls. Think about it: if you want girl gamers, you have to make games that'll attract their attention. The same is no different in trying to GET a girl.
Video games for girls is like dancing for guys. 80% of guys can't dance, and I would say the same about girls and gaming. But those who can are either witty or pretty good. BTW, if I got pwnt at a game I was good at by a girl, I'd might as well stop playing video games. ^_^
games that I would love if I was a girl is loco roco, daxter, sonic adventure, grumurin, maybe mario/zelda.
Devs do not need to make girly games...just great ones..
My girlfriend is just like us MANLY gamers...she likes Tekken, GTA, Virtua Fighter, Zelda, Shenmue, REZ, MGS...etc.
I believe that girls are just like guys when it comes to games: if the game kicks all a$$ then they will play it.
In fact, her favorite game right now is Bully on PS2....
On the other hand, maybe I just raised her right.....and should count myself as lucky for having a girlfriend / fiance who loves gaming.
Lucky Me!!!
I think female gamers are hot!! I welcome them. That just means more money for the gaming industry, which is a good thing for all gamers. It is slowing becoming more mainstream.
Lets hope these female gamers are pc gamers... cuz console gamers are ruining it for us all. >:(
"This session will focus on a Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) survey which found that women gamers outnumber men gamers in the 25-34 age group."
That might be true, but that survey was probably only about casual, card, and puzzle games, like word search, yahtzee, uno, some sort of online tetris clone, solitare. That I can believe.
Sorry CEA, online puzzle bobble doesnt count as gaming.
Female gamers are nothing new and whenever someone decides to do a "OMG l00k! Der's female gameorz ans we g0nnza tells yews alll ab0uts it" it just drills the notion that female gamers are a rare unheard of thing that people must treat differently.
Exactly the opposite of what these organizations want to do.
I know chicks out the ass that plays Mortal Kombat Teris
she isn't very attractive, is she...
just kidding.
I say girl gamers are okay with me, and if they're hot it's a BIIIIG plus.
No girls on the internet. Period. >:|
i dont give a flying ***** if girls play video games, as long as they dont bich at me online when theyre losing

i think its rare to girls to play videogames unless they were pretty much raised with them. i mean common girls have dolls that piss and take dumps, we grew up with nintendos and playstations. now my sister plays games shes hooked on sonic rivals now, but i think its because we were raised playing games all day. and most girls dont play because of the competition, they dont like to lose thats why they dont play them. i mean F|_|CK! my gf plays *****en halo she plays with her bro all the time, another sense of growing up with games. but i think it should be us guys more than anything to persuade them into the gaming industry i mean common video games have now been a top choice among things to do at leisure.
and its alot funner playing socom on my psp when your clan members a chick owning fools nasty
persude kids
I know plenty of girls that cant get enough animal crossing. or harvest moon. lots of women love puzzle games..now we should combine women with a urination puzzle game..skeet skeet
girls dont seem to like killing people and stealing cars, though
and instead of having sex, you can pwn eachother on halo 2!! sounds fun to me!
the main reason girls never play games is because they are told "video games are for boys" i got it all the time i was a child and most of my freinds did too.
as before, if hte game is good, people will play it, regardless of gender. i know id much prefer to play mgs then some "female friendly" game.
all you need to do to get girls to play games, is to stop telling them they are for boys...
This is so ghey, this is just another thing that really zooms in on minorities, and blows them out of proportion. I'd be ashamed if I were that (girl)reporter, cuz that only says once again that women are embarrassed about their well-earned stereotypes. This only proves that they can't ever be happy.
have any of u ever heard of female gamers on xbox live, lol that would be hilarious listening to all the nerds and prepubescent vulgar spouting boys obsess over them on xbox live.
This is good news for everyone. Adding more female gamers is something that the industry needs. Not only can this drive up the profits for gaming companies, but it will provide a base for better more diverse games.
If you go to CES, also check out the FREE Wi-Fi on the Monorail. Hot spots are every where, but not all of them are highspeed connections. Go to http://onerail.blogspot.com to find out more.
