Kotick: Activision will affect future console design |
Ó
At the recent Activision Blizzard Analyst Day in Los Angeles, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick expressed confidence that the design of future home consoles may well be affected by Activision's success."Now that we have the weight of being the largest payer of royalties to the first-parties of any third-party company, I definitely see us as starting to influence hardware design, and they're thinking about the evolution of the next generation of hardware," said Kotick.
Kotick didn't mention any specific or even vague ideas on how Activision's numbers will actually affect the consoles of the future, but he did concede that the arrival of the next console generation could take a lot longer compared to prior console cycles.
"[The] power and the capability of the hardware we have today is so strong, and the differentiation between the devices is so great that you're likely to see this cycle last a lot longer than we've seen in the past," said Kotick.
"I think there's a long life ahead of us, we're in year eight of PlayStation 2 and when you look at PlayStation 3 technically we're likely to see at least eight years' success."

Ok 8 years off success like ps2 for ps3 seems like it will pan out that way , but i seem to think that its a very random comment that activision will have a part (At the recent Activision Blizzard Analyst Day in Los Angeles, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick expressed confidence that the design of future home consoles may well be affected by Activision's success.) without any explanation why or how that would be so.(BTW 1ST comment).
PS2 says so too. with production cosst always rising, its fair to say they should support it for as long as poss in order to recoup as much money. i only see new consoles as graphics enhancers. i feel as if it becomes unnecessarily pointless to release next gen by 2010/11 since graphics have reached an acceptable standard imo(toy story level?) to this date, and will be unnoticable different if released in the mentioned timeframe by acceptable, i mean, characters fully detailed faces and figures(Gears, mgs4 and Uncharted, more rounder edges on vehicles such as GT5 and of course...female breasts :]
