Konami to try to meet "unexpected" high MGS Portable Ops demand

give it to me!How could Konami not have foreseen it? Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops is taking over the PSP market, and in just a little under a month since its December 21st release. Now, the publisher has conceded that there is indeed a delivery bottleneck for this game.

What is surprising, however, is their claim that there is an unexpectedly high demand. Operative term: unexpected. Boy, we all knew this was gonna be striking gold right from the start. The success of MGS: Portable Ops was anything but unexpected. Seriously, this title is a killer, and everybody knew it even before it came out.

Anyhow, now that Konami has come to terms with the painful truth that fans just aren't getting enough of portable Snake, they are now trying to ship more copies by next week to cater to the demands. We're counting on you, Kojima!

O_O

Konami didn't know that MGS:PO would be a hit?! MGS:PO was, and still is, the best game on PSP ever even before it came out.
by - 2007-01-17 00:35:30

well..

i don't like this that much... the camera/stamina sistem ruined the game for me.... back to MGS1 ^^
by - 2007-01-17 01:18:05
hmm..

so does this mean mgs:po2's coming?!
by - 2007-01-17 01:40:25
SWEET

Good to see a PSP game doing so well. Great job Konami! This game kicks azzz

:D

Yes, OH GOD YES!

Ah so.....

So I see Konami are going for the "strike when the iron has cooled considerably" business stratagy. Nice.

Disappointed

I was a big fan of the original MGS on the PS1, but am a little disappointed with this. Saving is still poor, the controls are a little awkward and gun firing is too clumsy. I just don't get that buzz like when you did when Snake was seen in the PS1 game. I'll put a few more hours in, but otherwise I'll add the original to my list of games to emulate.
by - 2007-01-17 05:59:01
its okay

it's not as good as the ps2/ps1 predessesor, due to control limitation, and maybe this is me, but i think the game is a bit laggy. i like the simplicity of the game tho, makes the word "portable" meaningful.
by CarXCrashXHearts - 2007-01-17 06:26:14
Same.

Me neither, I don't like this game... I haven't played an MGS game before this one, and I have to admit that it kind of sucks. Maybe the others are better?
by xnjcx2008 - 2007-01-17 08:25:33
Question

If you have never played any other MGS games, and have no idea what is what, can you still pick up this game and play without problems?
by - 2007-01-17 08:42:40
Let Down.

I spent a couplea hours with this title before it bored me to tears. Now with the POPs I'd play the original MGS anyday before this PoS. Sorry to all you MG fanatics out there, but this has nothing working for it. It seems like another re-hashed MG like the ones for PS2 which blew chunks. I dunno maybe it gets better 20 hours in, but honestly, who has 20 hours to waste nowadays? Oh well at least it's something moving units offa shelves. I have refused to buy any Sony PSP titles for the sole, #1 reason it has been outdone by an inferior(DS) console....Firmware Updates. Never before in the history of video game consoles has a console unit required even one update to play new titles. Not that it really matters now thanks to alot of peoples hardwork. But its an issue about principals, and values; Something $ony will never be able to buy with all their $$$.

Awesome!

if its selling so well, then that means its probably going to get the sequel that we all want.
by - 2007-01-17 10:40:59
Isnt a surprise

I still havent found the damn game anywhere,is easier to get a wii or a Ps3 than Mgs:ops. Please let the special edition come forth. After Christmas Gameplanet (Game store) PSP game zone was clean,There was anything but ol' games like Gradius and 2 copies left of WTF. Damn and im still without KZ:L or ACZ:SD.*sight :(
by - 2007-01-17 10:56:56
Yes you can

... but the story won't be as intriguing as if you have played previous MGS, and also you'll find it a bit hard to control. I recommend you play MGS3 before you pick this one on PSP, so that you can get an idea about its gameplay. But if you're looking for an online enabled game, go get it now!
by - 2007-01-17 11:05:30
About firmware updates...

you're wrong. Xbox 360 games also need updates in order to play games, Gears Of War is an example of those games. Firmware updates maybe bad for homebrewers, but it's a real Aleluya for some people who got early versions of consoles. I still remember my first Playstation SCPH 500x model not being able to advance further than the first steps on some games like Medievil 2, so I had to sell mine and buy a new SCPH 900x.

Awesome game

I absolutely love this game and can't wait for a sequel. Best PSP game I played!
by - 2007-01-17 11:42:34
Love it!!!

This game is awesome and i got the last copy at the store i went to. and konami knows you're just going to play it again and again cuz on the game save it says how many times you have cleared it. I'm on my second time already. Plus its multiplayer.
by - 2007-01-17 11:51:03
Hmmm

I really don't know if is the best game... I really like tekken too.. to bad only ad hoc... but the bad part of metal gear.. at least for me, is the missions... to very short for me... the camera isn't a big issue after a 30 minutes playing it... oh.. and the blood factor... what's up with that?... anyway... the multiplayer is where the fun is so... and about to save the game... it's really ok to me...
by Drachenflieger - 2007-01-17 11:51:45
...ey?

What's Kojima (or anyone in the game production team) got to do with the production and shipping of the actual UMDs? If you're going to root for anybody, it should be the factory workers. Now a bunch of angry and misguided kids probably will send poor Hideo a bomb threat or something... :P

This game rocks!

It's good to see the PSP getting some well deserved recognition. This is my favorite game right now on any system...and I do have Gears of War! (which comes in a close 2nd to MPO!) Alot of the new titles for PSP are very good games. The programmers are finally starting to figure out the PSP's hardware and we can look forward to many great games in the future for the PSP.
by - 2007-01-17 14:09:13
Well gee golly. : )

Good thing you're here to clear up whether or not this game has something going for it. Konami may as well just cancel those shipment dates because you don't like this game. I was planning on buying Final Fantasy when it came out for the PSP, but I really hope you tell me if it sucks or not so I know whether to buy it. And as for your hardcore stand on firmware updates... who cares buddy. It's a minor adjustment if you just want to play your games, update and move on. You don't have to stare at the update icon pondering what you want to do. I stick with homebrew, and even now updating is not a concern for me, just don't do it? You talk about principals, what are you even trying to say?
by - 2007-01-17 15:19:46
Unexpected?

The whole world and its dog knew that MGS PO on the Psp was going to be a huge hit as soon as it was announced. I just can't believe the words ''unexpected'' are written anywhere in a blog regarding MGS PO sales on the Psp. For all of those people complaining about the bad points of MGS PO (myself included), we shouldn't forget that a sequel could well fix these issues. Overall it is a really good game but I think many hardcore fans of the lone wolf type gameplay of the PS1 title won't like the recruiting and ''Snake can't do this alone this time'' sort of gameplay.
by Dodo - 2007-01-17 16:29:49
!

I can't get enough of MPO! I really hope they will release a sequel, may be a sequel to MGS4 even! Please Konami, don't let this opportunity go to waste! :)

yeah the mgs for ps1 is the greatest and I also wish they had made this one like the ps1 mgs. I wonder why didnt they make it like part one, it would have been the best game ever for psp. great game but it could have been sooo much better.

by - 2007-01-19 08:36:19
How?

can you not like this game?!?!? you must be sm0k1n sumth1n
by - 2007-01-19 19:48:28
POP's controls make me cry

I'm sorry, I realize this game has alot of quality to it, but I find the controls absolutely unplayable. The inability to control both camera and movement simultaneously is a huge hindrance, and combined with the PSP's lack of buttons and uncomfortable hand poses required, I cannot endore this game at all. The action is just too fast for controls that make me feel like I'm slotting mainframe punchcards. And I really want to love the game, don't mistake me. The plot is interesting and the wifi features cool. But if they think these controls are in any way acceptable then they need to get off the crackrock.
