Killing Time (24/7) features violence, partial nudity, and adult themes. Now this is a pretty interesting way to get your movie to the public. John Lamond Jr. and the folks at Sukhumvit Films are releasing the entirety of their movie for free download onto your PSP.

You read that right. An entire feature film for download.

The film, "Killing Time (24/7)," is the story of Jake, a professional hitman who does nothing but hang out with friends and enjoy the company of women between jobs: a dead-end life, if you could call it that. In this strange tale, Jake finds the monotony of his occupation disrupted when he finds out, a bit late, that his next job is to assassinate his father.

If it isn't obvious yet, you can definitely tell that this is going to have mature themes involved. Their synopsis calls it "a gritty nihilistic look at modern-day amoral, materialistic city living." We just call it a cool way to let the public know about a movie.

While the movie is free, there is a link for donations on their website if you happen to like the film. They're also coming out with a DVD of the film with extra features for those who want to watch the film on a bigger screen. Until we get more word on this feature film, you'll just have to kill some time yourself by watching the trailer, or you can check out their website for the large download file. Enjoy!

» An Idea I Think Is Great

Movie studios should release movies for free download as long as you are willing to watch some ads before you download. I think that would be a great idea, unless someone has thought of that already.

» mirror?

this is quite possibly the slowest transfer i had ever experienced. and it's from their own site.

sweet idea...stupid movie

corporates will never adopt that approach - not when they're milking us as much as they are already!

I'm told by my IT guy that they are updating the server, so it is temporarily down, but should be back up within the hour.

Good timing, eh?

Very sorry for the inconvenience...

» Slow download

goodtrip13

if you are really the director, may be have a word with them about uploading it to a faster server, I'm on a 10mbit line and my download speed from you site is 1.41kb/sec

that's 107hours for a 300meg file? sorry but if your going to distribute it free to the public, at least show some professionalism by using faster servers

by goodtrip13 - 2006-10-14 03:40
» sorry again

Yes, I'm really the director...

I'm in communication with my IT guy right now.

Sorry again for the trouble.

I had tested it prior to this story and it took me an hour to download the whole movie.

Will update you shortly.

by TehAgent - 2006-10-14 03:49
» thank you for the speedy reply

and if you ever need a British actor to play a bad guy ( we always seem to play the bad guy) let me know. ;)

» A torrent would be better

You should have the (slow) direct download and a option to use a torrent.

Bit Torrent would be way faster then a over run server.

http://www.bittorrent.com/

Bittorrent is a awsome p2p "sharing" system.

When you download 1/4 or something you start uploading to other people downloading so it gets faster and faster.

» sorry again

Guys, thanks for your patience and advice.

My IT guy says that the server just got flooded with too many download requests.

I warned him, but...

He's in the process of switching over to a server with much higher bandwidth, and assures me that he's on it.

I'll also investigate how to make a torrent... duh, should have thought of that earlier!

Always looking for actors (actually would prefer actresses).

It's midnight here in Bangkok. I'll be checking through the night.

» hmm

the Plot of the movie sounds really good but the trailer does look horrible. I will download the movie though to see if its any good. any one get this on a torrent yet?

by TehAgent - 2006-10-14 06:17
» torrents are good

if they have a lot of seeds and stay open for people to download

you could also look at something like mega upload and rapidshare to distribute the psp file,

ill try the download servers when i get back from work (dj'ing :D) and give you some feed back on the status from a end users point of view

BTW, I'm available if you do need a male British actor

by goodtrip13 - 2006-10-14 15:32
» quality

Sorry again for the slow loading...

My IT guy is now not answering his phone. Not a good sign.

I used final cut pro to capture the movie off the betacam master.

I experimented with all the (mac based) conversion software I could find, ended up using psp ware - it gave me consistent results.

As the second half of the movie is quite dark I did a brightening pass in final cut.

Would like to make it higher quality and resolution, but guess I'm hampered by SONY?

» server

I understand my IT guy is transferring the whole site including downloads to a new server over this afternoon (Bangkok time).

Will update you as I know more.

We will then also look into torrents and rapidshare.

Any other suggestions are most welcome.

» rapidshare and mega upload

I'm happy to join both to make it easier for the file to be downloaded.

However both sites have a maximum file size of 100mb.

How would I split my file so that it can be put back together?

Thanks,

goodtrip13

by goodtrip13 - 2006-10-14 19:55
» update

I'm uploading it now onto another file share site - one that accepts any file size.

As soon as it's done I'll give the details.

I'd like to use rapidshare and mega upload but I'm looking for a way to split the file (I'm on a MAC) - can anyone advise me?

We're also switching the website over to a new (faster) server - the site has been fully switched already, the zip download of the movie is being uploaded onto the new server and should be done in an hour or so.

Apparently my IT guy was caught totally by surprise by the number of hits to download, but it has helped him improve the site.

Did anyone manage to actually download the entire movie and watch it before my server slowed to a crawl?

Questions about the movie are welcome.

» torrent and trailer

I'm trying to make a torrent...

When (if) you've watched the entire movie, I would love your thoughts on how to make a better trailer...

Part of this exercise is to connect with the audience and involve them, so please be patient with the download, and get in contact with me with your thoughts afterwards (they are very much appreciated)...

OK...

Not a chance it's gonna reach Singapore Alex... too much sex, swearing, drugs.

I shot a movie before in Singapore, same problem.

The official website does NOT have the entire movie yet... it's still uploading. I just checked and its around 250mb.

Check your download file... if it's less than 380mb, it's not yet the full file.

You can download temporarily via this link:

http://www.mediamax.com/goodtrip13/Links/C00BC6646A

This should last for about 25 downloads.

I'm trying to upgrade to allow more.

Torrent file on the way also.

» Re: Movie

goodtrip13, out curiosity, what did you use to create the line art bitmap drawings that appear throughout the movie?

by goodtrip13 - 2006-10-15 14:47
» line art

I have a friend from Singapore who does underground comics.

He scanned single frames from the film, then drew and shaded in photoshop. He then animated in after effects.

cheers,

goodtrip13

Those of you still loading, thanks for your patience.

The website download now seems to be running fine also.
