Jeff Gerstmann's superior fired from CNET |
Ó
It's confirmed: CNET's Vice President of Games Josh Larson has been fired from his post. According to Kotaku's sources, Larson has been accused of bringing about the unwarranted involvement of Gamespot's sales team with the business of the editorial team.
The source also disclosed how the sales team became increasingly involved in the affairs of the editorial staff ever since Larson replaced his predecessor, former Editor in Chief Greg Kasavin. "[Larson] was a suit...who has no editorial experience and was only involved on the business side of things," the anonymous source added.
Those who have been following the GameSpot controversy - which involved the firing of Jeff Gerstmann, and the following resignations of Frank Provo, Alex Navarro, and Ryan Davis among others - would remember that those involved had more or less the same gripe about the issue. The editorial staff's integrity was allegedly being compromised for the benefit of the site's advertisers.
Larson, whose termination will take into effect on April 9, will be laid off from the company along with about 120 other employees. Is this due retribution for Gerstmann's forced departure from Gamespot? We'll leave it up to you to judge.

You've got to love Karma, even if Gerstmann wasn't fired over K&L he was still fired under suspicious circumstances
Retribution indeed. To the extreme.
Haha what goes around comes around.
Though I still can't see Gamespot going back to the good ol' days. I just hate that site.
So what did the other 120 employees do? That is a huge company. This sound like a recession coming
Games are bigger than ever. I would think game sites would do pretty good but maybe less people going to their after the firing fiasco. But yeah 120 employees is a lot. I wonder how its going to affect the content they provide.
I don't think it will disturb too much of the content. but.. still people need jobs, and companies are already moving too much out of this country as it is... stupid greedy companies >:(
seems to me cnet is just now currently feeling the HIT of jeff gerstmann's absence coupled with sudden resignations of other major key editors to gamespot dot com.
ganmespot's subscriptions probably went down by almost 75 percent since Rich gallups departure.
and cnet is just now punishing the source, but hey its too late the damage is done, reputation is measly small with only 3 or 4 credible key employess left, its gonna be a hard climb back for gamespot.
hey CNET do wanna acquire giantbomb dot com? ive heard the price is not that big..... YET!!! hehehehe
Do you think Gamespot can re-hire Jeff Gerstmann as well as all the other editors that have left? Now that Josh Larson is gone, is it still entirely impossible?
