Jeanne d'Arc is Level 5's New RPG Title For PSP |
Ó
At first glance, Jeanne d'Arc looks - and plays - just like most turn-based strategy RPGs. You start out by selecting the characters you want to use in a particular battle, then you and your enemy take turns as part of the game's player and enemy phases. During your turn, you can move, attack, or choose a different action that will lead you ever closer to completing the stage's winning conditions.
A couple of new twists from Level 5 include the "Burning Site" and "Connection Guard," both of which will undoubtedly have a great impact on the strategy aspect of this game.
The "Burning Site" comes into play when you attack an enemy. Whenever you attack an enemy, it releases energy which lands on a nearby square. This square becomes what is called a "Burning Site." If any unit - either an ally or an enemy - moves into that square, that unit will receive a temporary boost in power.
The "Connection Guard," on the other hand, is similar to the Support Conversation system in Intelligent Systems' Fire Emblem games for the GBA. When friendly units are within a certain distance of one another, they receive a defensive boost, indicated by a blue light that surrounds the affected units. This is based on the idea that friendly units are nearby and will help watch their friends' backs.
Jeanne d'Arc is being produced by Level 5 president and head honcho Akihiro Hino himself and is directed by Ken Honmura. The game is reportedly 70% complete and is slated for a Japanese release this winter.
Here's hoping that it also gets released outside Japan.
