Japan's software and hardware sales before Christmas

It is safe to say that Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops is Sony's "go-to guy" in the land of the rising sun. We mentioned a couple of days ago that the game sold around 100,000 copies, just 24 hours after it was released. Well, when we're talking about a star player, we don't want rough estimates. We want the actual statistics, down to the most minute fraction.

According to Media Create, a total number of 178,370 copies of Konami's stealth game was actually sold in Japan during the week before Christmas. Despite this impressive number however, the game only came in second to DS title Pokemon Diamond. But then again, we're talking about Japan here and we know that this is Pikachu's territory. A second place outing is not that bad. Really.

mgsThe complete list of the software and hardware sales for December 18 to 24 in Japan is as follows:

Software

Hardware
  • DS Lite: 485,584
  • Wii: 279,277
  • PSP: 138,588
  • PS3: 76,882
  • PS2: 46,209

» waits for thousands of people...

to add this guy to thousands of spam lists Buy the real game people, and support the creators...it will only help them create better games in the future.

by hmm - 2006-12-30 04:06
» Yes

buy the games. Which is why Nintendo is doing well because their fans want them to do well while sony psp fans just want stuff for free so they don't care for the company as a whole. Good to see Metal Gear sell well sure it's not #1 but hey when messing with the big guns of pokemon no game can surpass

by weird - 2006-12-30 05:33
» huh?

:S they sell wii sports seperately in Japan?

by Jin - 2006-12-30 05:58
» No...

I don't think this is a loss. Man, A LOT of people must be playing Mario for Christmas since that's all DS has. Oh, and Yoshi, but that's just splitting hairs. : P

I'll stick with Metal Gear and unlimited amount of PSX games.

» ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

i think you mean "no sales + no new games" and illegal isos are stupid why would you spend so long downloading a game that you cant even get the music for half the time

by Uzumaki-kun - 2006-12-30 06:48
» BS

its a known fact that nintendo kicks the ***** out of sony especially in apan so whats the point on psoting it. How about showing us something different like gamecube sales, ps one sales, or even the horrible xbox sales or pc sales even just an idea. ;)

by the only happycamper - 2006-12-30 08:26
» wow...

holy crap the psp beat the ps2 and the ps3 in sales combined, wow didnt see that one coming

haha 360 only sold 17k during the same period. The worst performing console of ALL TIME!!!!

PS3 FTW!!!

by Blitz - 2006-12-30 10:47
» um...duh?

Do you read what you write before you post? The DS only plays games because..well, I don't know, maybe because IT'S A HANDHELD GAME CONSOLE! Of course people only play games on their DS, because that's what it was manufactured to do, and it does it well.

by rd261 - 2006-12-30 12:29

No I meant no sales equal no game but the stupid site changes the equal sign to a plus sign

by hmm - 2006-12-30 17:28
» Love it

So wait let me get this straight Someone. The DS sucks because it plays games? The psp sells well because they made it easy to steal from them?

Okay I will give you the %^+*ty browser (unfortunatly they never brought it they never gave it to the US so I only know word of mouth, but the Wii Browser kicks butt!) but this is a handheld gaming platform right? It only sold 35 plus million and the psp only sold maybe 18mil? Plus the DS is getting nothing but AAA titles for it and is only getting more support from all the devs.

Now I do have a psp and looking forward to psp2 which maybe (crosses fingers) will really see a new face come E3. Unfortunatlly it's no DS

by Dodo - 2006-12-30 20:38
» Well..

PSP is doing great for its first attempt at the handheld market. Nintendo has been doing this space since the dawn of time so give Sony some time to catch up. 2006 has been a great year for PSP so give credit where it's due.

Piracy will hurt not only Sony but also the developers. PSP is a great system, give it your support, buy games and encourage developers to make more original, high-quality titles. You don't have to give up homebrews to play new games legally.

DS can suck its Pokemon and Mario, that's all Japan loves anyway. Quantity does not equal to quality.

by Evilution - 2006-12-31 01:28
» Meh

The main thing you have to remember is that the kids mainly get the DS, these kids live with their parents so have money for games. Us grown ups have greater responsibilitie s and can't spunk all our cash on games.

That's why more DS games are sold and why more PSP games are downloaded.

It's not like Sony need the money, they already make billions in profit, do we get to see any of it by way of cheap games? no of course not.

by zero - 2006-12-31 02:06
» not realy

personaly I'm a father of 2 kids & I've got 3 DS.

Why? 'cause I'm an old player & DS is a piece of technologie that will never be replaced by a junk machine like the PSP.

The reason of my opinion: those people do well their work & think about the client as someone exigent, so to do, it most be varity of game, lower prices, different users ages & all the factors that bring good monney, Sony is doing only one part of these things: a station of games for all ages.

And we mention that Sony is copying Nintendo in the motion pad but when confronted with the media they say: Sorry guys but we have planified a motion sensor on the pad but Nintendo got the hand & anonced it first so it's not a copy.

And you'll see some day Sony will lose the liesence of her motion captor like she does with her "stolen" vibration programs(that's why ps3 doesn't have vibration mode on the pad), and remember that Sony got the pad of her PS3 ready(wich shown on the first glance on E3, yes that beautifull Pad).

To finish this we should say that it's becoming a Marketing War camouflated With the title Of CONSOLE WAR; to say more we're just a tool of profits for them:)
