The Japanese PSN's Game Archives services is welcoming another Final Fantasy titles into its ranks. Final Fantasy, the first entry in the not-so-final franchise, is now available as a downloadable title for PSP and PS3.

Seeing as this is the PSOne Game Archives, this version of Final Fantasy is the PSOne remake. That means there's no Soul of Chaos dungeon and no Labyrinth of Time. It does have Wonderswan-based graphics, art galleries, and a FMV intro though.

Another new entry for the Game Archives services is Farland Saga: Toki no Michishirube. While I can't say that the latter will eventually see an overseas release, Final Fantasy's chances are better. Maybe sometime after Final Fantasy Tactics?

Those with Japanese PSN accounts can now download Final Fantasy and Farland Saga: Toki no Michishirube for JPÂ¥ 600 (US$ 6) each.

» nope

The PS1 version is a port of the Wonderswan remake, which was then updated for the GBA. Very similar, but different.

Personally, after playing the 20th AE, no other version compares except the original NES cart for unfettered nostalgia.

Milking old games is fun. But when the cow is over 20 years old the milk is getting sour.

» Ok but...

I'd still prefer VIII and IX to be the next FF game to be released on the PSN. I'm surprised that $queenix didn't put it out for XBL or maybe they can't due to PS1 exclusivity. And because of this move the S in SquareEnix is officially replaced by $. Damn they re-released this game so much.

» Oh crap..

This reminds me: I haven't worked on my OpenBOR port of FF1 in a while! I should get back to it when I find time...

» my guess

putting it on xbl would actually require work, which this does not cause the emulator is already made by sony. This is for easy money

Hardly.

The 20th Anniversary version may have better graphics and have the extra dungeons that the GBA version has(as well as one other) but it doesn't make it the better game.

Final Fantasy on Wonderswan and PSX are like the original FF gameplay where as the PSP and GBA versions water down the difficulty and add the pool of MP which started on FF4 making the game so much more broken when using mage classes.

Not that the GBA and PSP games aren't good. Infact, they're the same game just easier and a different MP value. So it's really a different way to play the original title. Saying the PSP version is the best is false. The NES version, nostalgia or not is the best one, though because all the inclusions that weren't made like TMPR and SABR not working or some abilities raising enemies stats or weapons not using their desired effects when attacking, the PSX one is better(if only it had no load times which Square was really bad with on their PSX games except FF4 which ran perfect and is the best version of the game.)

» And guess what?

It's for PSN download. you think they're not going to put up their PS1 FF games on the store as CLASSICS!!!

The same stuff fans been demanding to increase for 2 years. Honestly, I can't wait to see what else SE does for it's classics, and I hope to see FF8 and 9 return to it's glory and be put on the store seeming how my discs are too scratched and old to be played.
