Now here's some interesting news... We all know that the much-talked about Square Enix Party 2007 will be held in Makuhari Messe in Japan on May 12 and 13, and at one time, Square Enix has also mentioned that fans will be treated to a lot of surprises during the event. While the party is still two months away, Square Enix is already dropping hints of what those surprises may be.

Japanese daily newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun, has recently run a full-page announcement for the said party. What's interesting about the advertisement is that it somehow refers to a new Final Fantasy game. Please pardon the translation as you all know fluent we are in Japanese-Babelfish, but this is how the print reads (if anyone can read Japanese, please feel free to give us a more accurate translation. It would be much appreciated):

The evolution will never stop, the series continues [... ] and then Final Fantasy that nobody knows will enter in scene.

The announcement also features the designs and logos of all previously-released and previously-revealed-but-yet-to-be-released Final Fantasy video games such as Rings of Fatefor the DS, and Crystal Bearersfor the Wii.

Well, the legendary series is now on its 20th year of existence, so a development of this magnitude may actually be very fitting. So what do you think guys? Is a new Final Fantasy game coming soon? We hope we all finally get the real deal on this matter by May.

# new gameGuest 2007-03-21 09:08
lets hope if they do make a new game that its more action packed than previous games.....

the only FF i played was 7 on ps1 and that turn based fighting bored me rigid, but i stuck with it until i got to that city where you had to keep swapping disc 1 and 2 as you walked round it, that was the last straw for me and i have never played one since,

FF style, depth and graphics with DMC action would be pretty awesome

FFVII seven times, and I know for a fact that you don't have to switch back and forth between disk 1 and 2, ever. Once you get to disk two, you're on disk two... You must be remembering wrong

it wont go to 360, square is a japanese company and 360 has flopped in japan (i remember hearing they just sold out thier launch units, from 2005). and then final fantasy 11 came for 360, that flopped in all regions. and blue dragon did ok in japan, like 200k but that means that no where close to everyone w/ 360 in japan has it.

so just judging on past history, ff13 is on the ps3.

# erm nocomedy 2007-03-21 10:01
they're using their 'white engine' which they designed for ff13 - exclusive to ps3... so this implies it's not x360 or pc compatible...

although they are using unreal 3.0 in conjunction, so maybe it is slightly adaptable.

Microsoft has been in talks with SE for the last year or so about bringing their franchises to the 360. They recently nailed Capcom with Devil May Cry 4, and are also in talks with other Japanese developers. Not to mention the fact that Virtua Fighter 5, Assassin's Creed, and Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War, Fatal Inertia are all now also coming to other platforms. The developers know that the PS3 is a bomb and are jumping ship quickly.

ファイナルファンタジーというRPGがはじめて登場してから今年で20年

その進化は、終わらない。

For 20 years, from its first release to this year, the evolution of the RPG, Final Fantasy, has not end.

そして、誰も知らないファイナルファンタジーが登場する。

And now, a Final Fantasy no one has known is born.

I'm fluent in Japanese, and this is a typical catchphrase in Japanese -- it may or may not indicate a new, unrevealed game.

They're most likely referring to the games that are listed there. Those are the Final Fantasies that we do not know; we know their existence, but we haven't played them.

An Xbox 360 port of one of the FFXIIIs, The long rumored Final Fantasy Haeresis XIII, a remake of FFVII (To continue with the remakes made for the GBA but now on the PSP or PS3) or a brand new game for X360, PS3, PC, DS or PSP. That about covers all the bases.

by going by what the translator dude above says, "an EVOLUTION of the RPG series FINAL FANTASY"

I assume means unlike revolutionize (like FFXI) they're going to take maybe XII to the next level?

"And now, a Final Fantasy no one has known is born"

So it's brand spankin new, no rumor or speculation have guessed it before. hmmm, i'll say it now, expect it to be multi-platform. With Wii and DS having spin-offs.

The game's been out for 10 years, and you're the first person who has ever had to reload different discs at gold saucer, or anywhere in the game for that matter.

# Ok, I know this sounds nutsGuest 2007-03-21 18:00
Here is a thought. I may be way off, but listen....

FF7 remake EXCLUSIVELY for the 360. Square has said now for ages, that the only way they would remake ff7 would be if it could not be played on the platform...Now that Squeenix has announced they intend to support all platforms equally, I think this is a real possiblilty. Further, it falls right in line with the fractured method with which they have released the compilation of Final Fantasy VII (each game has been on a different platform).

Yeah, I know people will think I'm crazy, but seriously a couple days ago people would have called me a nutcase for suggesting DMC4 would show on the 360...

Just to be clear, I am not entirely in favor of this possibility

But I'm thinking IF the remake is in the works, this could be the tradeoff (a very heavy one, in my view) that would allow Sony to maintain exclusivity on FF13 and Versus 13

Imagine the entire Square universe in one game. All your favorite characters and locations in one epic tale. Just picture a Chrono Trigger style storyline, but instead of jumping through time you end up on an adventure that takes you to different worlds of FF. Think KINGDOM HEARTS multiple universes and real time battle mechanics, now that would be unlike any FF title before it.

Ahhh well, a fanboy can dream can't he?

# Rybnik the noob.Guest 2007-03-21 18:56
I wouldn't have called you an idiot for saying that DMC4 was going multi-platform. It was announced months ago when Capcom itself made the call. Saying that Squeenix is going to throw out the same title for all consoles however, I laugh at you. FXIII is going to remain a PS3 exclusive, and once people jump aboard the PS3 wagon, the 360 is going to become another XBOX. Strictly a Halo playing machine.

# sorry to bust bubblesxche78x 2007-03-21 22:28
yep i shouldnt be the one to say this but they are probably just referring to final fantasy xiii, to which players will actually see the game running on ps3 hardware, and they will probably demo the battle, walkworldmap and show more in game infos.

and to muggles, no never would need to go back to a previous disk on final fantasy 7 except when you are trying to load a save from some level that did not match the disk, EG you are using disk 2 when your save still is in disc 1. anyways i really hope square remake Xenogears for ps3 or psp, those xenosaga's are crap.

Anyone else think FFXII was a terrible game? It is the first time I have been so disappointed by a Final Fantasy game (like most I have played them all and enjoyed every one).

Point is I am all about quality and not quantity. Ever since the companies merged I think the quality has gone south. Ya the graphics are sweet, but the game quality leaves something to be desired.

I understand the desire to immerse themselves in the different mediums such as 360, ps3, ds, gba.. etc. etc... to make the all mighty dollar, but please SE I hope FFXII was not a sample of things to come.

Other than that May can not come soon enough. I hope what they are presenting will bring back that excitement to playing a new FF game.

So why is FFXI on the list?

Could my favorite MMO game will be getting a new expansion?
