Japanese Market Share Numbers |

Demand for the Xbox 360 has grown in the West as the Christmas-holiday shopping season enters its final leg, but the same can't be said for MS's new console darling in Japan.
For the week of December 12-18, the Xbox 360 only sold 8,623 hardware units (capturing a mere 1.39% of the Japanese market), a huge drop-off from even the relatively better first-week sales of 43,970 during launch. Having Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Final Fantasy IV, and more Pokemon and brain-training games for Nintendo's portable systems probably didn't help any.

A big thankyou to the Japanese for not being as gullible as the west, and congratulations to Nintendo for a solid performance.
If Microsoft get a foot in the door with the XB360 it's curtains for the market, just like how they ****ed up the PC scene. I can just imagine if they ever got majority market share they will start coming down on the retailers locking them into exclusive XB360 marketing and distribution deals much in the same way they bullied their way to the front with Windows and just about any other technology item they 'came from behind' years after another company proves the concept.

Why is Europe and americans gullible because they buy a 360?
The 360 sucks because windows is behind it?
wow aren't you paranoid.
Most likely sony will win the console war...M$ isn't going to "OWN THE WORLD AND SPY ON ME!"
Many devs who work on the xbox last gen made some great games.
We need competition not one console will own the world.

Stunning revelation there Vecha. Why don't you ask to see if Mr Dvorak needs a side-kick. *yawn*

I'm getting two DSs...because of their games, even though they aren't very graphically stunning, have some great games.
If the psp wants to be on top they need to get some games out the door..gta was an ok one...but japan doesn't like the games from the west.
Some good rpgs would be good on the psp...they have a couple...but they kinda suck

Since JP is so damn crowded, you're bound to find someone within range of the DS's wifi connection. What with mario cart, and nintendogs especially.

the reason DS is doing so good over there is because of consumer loyalty, and japan targetted games. Sony is too busy trying to woo Americans into forking over 200 bucks for s psp to actually give a hoot about their other demographics

We'll have to wait and see when the numbers are released after Christmas. The only figures I've seen are these from PSPUpdates which suggest as of November the PSP had sold 2.5M and the Nintendo DS had sold 2.7M. It will be the December figures I think which really show which is pulling into the lead. Supposedly since Nintendogs was released the DS has been selling better in all territories but Christmas is a time when a more expensive device like the PSP can sell so it might take the lead yet. Either way as an owner of both systems I can rest assured neither is going to be dying any time soon! :)

cause christmas is coming up they all got it as a present.
The sales should skyrocket in europe i think

the reason DS is doing so good over there is NOT because of consumer loyalty, and japan targetted games. If that was the case, what about GameCube? And I'm sure Sony was doing so well with PS/PS2 because of consumer loyalty, right?
Point is.. Sopheriel said it's his/her THEORY-
you dont' have to be so rude, do you? and this whole Nintendog mega success, which did boost DS's sale up in Japan considerably, is based on Shigeru Miyamoto's idea on how the dog owners chat because of common interest, WHICH is possible because of the demographics.

So while that guy does research...
maybe you need to learn to read before you post something to make yourself feel better...k?

Nintendo has done a better job of aiming for demographics in Japan with the DS.
Part of the reason the 360 launch sucked was because its lineup was so pathetic. Tetris? That's definitely not going to cut it.
The Japanese love RPGs. They're not the biggest fans of racing or basketball games, or FPSs or 'crime simulations' such as GTA. Sony's problem right now is that the PSP takes so long to develop for because of its games' high-end requirements. You're talking about making PS2-quality games, which take a *lot* longer and require much more money than making N64 or souped up SNES quality games (for the DS).
