The weekly game hardware sales in Japan dropped all across all consoles, while seeing a few minute climbs for a few Nintendo handhelds. Local market analyzers Media Create brings you the results for the week ending March 11.

Media Create - Weekly Hardware Sales in Japan ending March 11 - Image 1Still up the charts yet down by a huge drop is the sales of the Sony PSP landing just a dozen thousand more than the Nintendo Wii, still much thanks to Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable 2nd. The Nintendo DS (almost all Lite) still leads by twice that amount.

Since the week ending March 4, the biggest drop was the PlayStation 3, garnering a 27.01% (11,885 units since last week) dive, although the Wii fell the most by sales totals up to almost 13,500 units. Least to drop was the Xbox 360, going down a measly 46 units representing just a 1.36% drop.

» Wii bombs!

Looks like the Wii fad has finally ended. Nintendo sales are tanking across the board, while Sony sales have skyrocketed. Guess there aren't enough Wiitards to support a last-gen piece of garbage.

» wii is over

the wii is over! look at gamestop.com, ps3 and the 360 have over 10 pages of games, wii only has like 5!

» ps3 anyone??

its clear that people want ps3. they just cant afford it. thats why sonys sales are so smooth. theres never any huge drops/jumps. most people have to plan to buy a ps3. but anyone can just get up one day and buy a wii because its cheap. so while the wii sales could just drop/jump at times, the ps3 will get a slow raise in sales. now for the xflop, in japan I think people only buy it because they cant wait and save for ps3. so the 3000 that sold are just by people that will settle with what they can afford. in the end the ps3 will slowly pass the wii and 360. oh yeah why does evey one want to see japans sales. I wanna know whats going on in the U.S.

QJ can you show the us sales.

While I also think we is more of a passing phase it still hasn't ended, once it's stronger games come out it'll get a second wind. If we loses the console lead it wont be happening this year.

"now for the xflop, in japan I think people only buy it because they cant wait and save for ps3"

Or maybe there's just Japanese people who don't like Japanese games? Just don't post, you really don't know what you're talking about

» seriously though

why the hell does qj keep posting these numbers? They are a tiny fraction of USA sales, and are not representative of our market at all...

Cater to your own market QJ, this ***** is meaningless. Can you go out and find some real news to post?

thats because nintendo will keep that thing artificially alive with its exclusives.

If brawl and metroid3 were to be launch games, the wii would be dead already

» I think I'm turning Japanese

You know, I find it ironic that a lot of Sony nuts will quickly point out that Sony will succeed in Japan in comparison to the Xbox because it has Japanese support, but will just as quickly turn around and deny the importance of such support when comparing the Japanese sales of Wii vs. PS3.

Don't menialize the importance of success, in any country, and DON'T say that success in Japan isn't relative to success in America.

Come on guys, money is money, it doesn't matter who's giving it to who. If a country is supporting a company, subsequently GIVING IT MONEY, then it goes without saying that said company has greater venues of opportunity, and in turn, success.

I bet you, as I sit here in Tokyo, there are Japanese readers of this site

» Ummm... Wii's are impossible to find...

There is a shortage of wii's, still... and I am sure that Wii Sales would be way up there if it was possible to find one in Japan. Nuff Said.

Microsoft Owns.

Sony Loses

by I under - 2007-03-18 23:14
» I understand but...

what would you rather be big in? Europe and America?

or Japan?

Sorry But i'd rather sell 300,000 consoles insted of 30k

by sakura - 2007-03-19 01:12
» bombs?

wait your saying the wii is bombing and the sony products are skyrocketing? how is this so when the ds lite is STILL beating everyone and both the psp and ps3 have dropped in sales? sounds to me like your trying a bit too hard to turn this around ina ps3 fanboy vs wii fiasco.

by Whyser - 2007-03-19 03:48
» tiny fraction?!

Japan's sales accounts for slightly less than 1/3 of the reported sales worldwide. For a country that is MINISCULE compared to the US, I think their numbers are pretty damn significant.

by DaTNIZZLE - 2007-03-19 10:34
» WOW

Who cares about Japan? I would advise you never to start a company that has anything to do with video games, If you don't get this already there may not be any hope for you.

by Datnizzle - 2007-03-19 10:37
» ds's

Why would you buy a DS if you could get a ds lite. Who are these 119 people and have they bought their xbox360's yet?

by gameboyadvancebs - 2007-03-19 11:11
» hmmm

The thing is that every company wants to have the advantage in their home country, so that's it's a big deal since two of the 3 console making companies are in japan.

by atomicV1sion - 2007-03-19 13:46
» ds's too

lmfao It's kind of funny looking at the 119 DS units sold. Long live DS phat!
