News is really slow today, so let's take a little look at the hardware sales figures from Japan for the week of March 12 to March 18, courtesy of Media Create.

Just like last week (and the many weeks before that), Nintendo's DS Lite handheld gaming system is still on top of the whole heap. The DS Lite currently has almost double the sales of the Nintendo Wii, which is in second place. Nintendo's one-two combo also saw some increased sales figures the past week.

At number three is the Sony PSP, while the PS3 is at number four. Although both Sony gaming systems took a bit of a dive in sales, both systems are still doing better than the PS2, which in turn has a pretty commanding lead over Microsoft's Xbox 360 console. The Xbox 360's Japanese sales also dipped a bit.

Here are the current numbers from Media Create:
  • DS Lite: 121,471Japanese hardware sales figures for March 12 to 18 - Image 1
  • Wii: 67,070
  • PSP: 43,769
  • PS3: 21,635
  • PS2: 13,321
  • Xbox 360: 2,910
  • GBM: 727
  • GBA SP: 557
  • GC: 367
  • DS: 159
  • GBA: 9

» WHERE IS THE NORTH AMERICAN AND EUROPE/AUSTRALIA HARDWARE SALES?

Why do you never seem to post the North American(bigges t market) and Europe.Australia hardware sales? unless I missed them the only thing I have seen on these countrys is some pointless rental figures.

The tracking firms in Europe and Australia do not make the hardware figures public.

The US data for February though is....

DS - 485,000

Wii - 335,000

PS2 - 295,000

360 - 228,000

PSP - 176,000

PS3 - 127,000

» Febuary figures for USA very low for PS3

Well looking at both lots of figures(If the US sales are roughly the same for March) what the 360 sales lack in Japan they more than easily surpass the PS3s Japan and USA sales combined.

» GBA has finally died

I love how there were 9 GBA sales. Hopefully, this will mean GBA ROMs will be easier to download.

People who believe bigger is better?

I don't understand it either. The DS lite is what the first one should have been.

» Phil Harrison has trouble lying

PS3 only sold 127,000 in north america? Only 80 people in line to buy PS3s at the huge launch party in Sydney? They have to give away new TVs to get people to buy them in the UK? Disasterous launch in Poland? Ridiculous!

I'm glad you're having fun with those systems but "cant afford a psp" is the worst excuse you can use to put down a gaming machine. Just makes you look bad. In psychology its called compensation, "i don't want any of the games it has". I too have a ds just so you know this is not coming from a pspfanboy. With your comment we do learn one thing, that is that the psp's price tag might be keeping lot's of people from buying it.
