Japan: Xbox 360 outsells PlayStation 3 for September; handheld sales decline |

Third time's the charm.
The latest numbers from Japan show that the Xbox 360 has once again outsold the PlayStation 3 for the third week running. Crunching some numbers reveal that the Xbox 360 outsold the PlayStation 3 for the entire month of September. It's a little too early for Christmas miracles, so I'd say this is... a Halloween miracle?
September saw 54,793 units sold for the Xbox 360, but only 31,798 PlayStation 3s were liberated from shelves for the month. If that's what a price cut did for the Xbox 360 in Japan, I am highly curious to see what it did for other regions, particularly in North America. We'll have to wait on the figures form the NPD Group to find out.
On the handheld side of things, both the PSP and DS have declined in sales, and no wonder. People are waiting for both the PSP-3000, and the new camera-fied Nintendo DSi. I'm surprised they still manage to sell any. Here are the numbers from Japan for the week ending on September 28:
- DS Lite: 57,847
- Wii: 26,314
- PSP: 25,671
- Xbox 360: 11,291
- PS2: 9,848
- PS3: 8,275

Huge props to microsoft for pulling this off. A price cut has sure sold a lot of 360s up here. Pretty much everyone I know has one now.

but in the first 6 months of the year, the highest selling hardware was the PSP, selling something like 1.5 million units (which I think was mainly due to Monster Hunter 2G or whatever it's called) and the DS was 2nd.

That's exactly it. the 360 library is huge and the console is now cheap. why the hell not?
Don't get me wrong about the PS3, its a good system, but the 360 is just ahead in the technology when it comes to making the games with the 360 while the ps3 is beginning the learning curve not saying they dont have any good games because they do but right now 360 has the upper advantage so right now its pointless if all the good games are coming out for the xbox and 200$ for the system, large libary,xbox live content, the 360 is just the best investment now, the ps3 isnt going anywere so its pointless buying it now, save 600$ spend it when the PS3 is actually up with its own technology and uses it to its advantage.....
I GIVE IT 5 MINUTES TILL SOMEONE POST A FANBOY REPLY ABOUT MY COmment... my perspective is in the middle my brother has a ps3 i have a 360 and he plays with me and keeps his PS3 gathering dust because he passed the 3 good titles for the ps3..
I agree, it's a cheap console, and pretty much everyone I know has one as well... while a lot of people hate it that XBL costs money, you can't replace what such a large user-base does for you as an on-line gamer.
As for Japan, Microsoft should celebrate while they can because this will be a short-lived run. The PS3 has been out for 2 years, so 3 weeks means very little, and I doubt it will be long before Sony reclaims their spot.

X-Box 360: 13 million units
Playstation 3: 6 million units
Sure you could make the arguement that the 360 has been out for an additional year, but then I could make the arguement that Sony sold 20 million more units than Microsoft did in the last generation of consoles... meaning they should've had all the momentum in the world for this gen. Numbers speak louder than words, so let's see yours.

We hear all day about the fanboys and their pathetic pride for their consoles and how they can pull out all sorts of numbers and how halo3 was gonna revolutionise and ps3 just has a fancy dvd player, but they cant give any one reason why their console is better. I buy games for PS3 that are only exclusive to the PS3, and for the 360 I buy all exclusives and cross title games. I buy the cross title games for the 360 because xboxlive is more stable and has a wider range of users. Stop getting so upset already. Its videogames. What does last generations sales have to do with microsoft having a year head start? I think what you are forgetting is that the PS2 is still selling fairly well, while the first x-box was discontinued. You have to go by the rate at which the new consoles are selling not the total units sold.
As far as the connection goes one service isn't more "stable" than the other. It all depends on if you are using a peer to peer connection or dedicated servers. It's up to the developers of the game to decide which they want to use. Dedicated servers are usually the best way to go but can be costly. Live and PSN offer both options so its best to check what game uses what type of set up to judge the stability of the connection.

To your knowledge.... wow. I've had both my consoles repaired. The only difference with the Sony repair, is that they give you someone else's PS3, a scratched up one. I'm not the only one who had a BR Drive die on them, it will happen to everyone eventually. There were a lot of reports about it when firmware 2.0 was released, but I'm sure you turned your head as soon as you noticed.
What operating system is your computer running on anyways? Mac OS X? Because I'm sure you don't want to look stupid and say Windows, right?

I love Sony for their quality of products which one can spend money on with relative safety.
I love Microsoft for their all rounded next-gen machine; Large selection of games, decent media playing, and nice hardware.
I love Nintendo for the obvious clichés; Innovations, hardware quality, and the sheer genius of some of it's designers and producers. Mario and Zelda are just mustplays.
I like Windows for ease of use; Linux for stability, and Mac for efficiency.
All in all, love what you can; You got a 360? Great you can play cod4, gta4, far cry 2, dead rising, gow etc. You got a PS3? Great, you can also play cod4, gta4, far cry 2, and you get MGS4 and LBP.
You got a Wii? Great, you get Mario, Zelda, No more heroes, mad world, and a great homebrew console.
