Japan: PSP sells nearly as much as all other platforms combined... again |
Ó
The PSP is pretty hot right now in Japan. The Sony handheld is now spending its second week as the alpha platform in Japan's hardware sales charts. Not only that, but it's also its second week to sell nearly as much as the rest of the platforms did combined.
Its success has been attributed to the release of Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, which topped Japan's software charts the previous week. It's no coincidence then that the game is still on top of the software charts.
All the platforms have performed just as well as they did the previous week. Here are the hardware sales numbers in Japan for the week of April 6:
- PSP: 120,964
- DS Lite: 55,190
- Wii: 44,618
- PS3: 11,303
- PS2: 10,423
- Xbox 360: 1,452

tis the PSP's time to shine
Yea, for a couple of weeks before the DS takes over again.
I say it everytime but I love the PSP. Played it more than my DS this year. But it's just always funny listening to the PSP mega fans who try to make out that any momentary sales influx is a sign of change... Until it goes right back to the status quo.
I agree completely. Monster Hunter can only carry the PSP for so long before people get bored with it OR everyone in Japan who wants one--has one.
before battery hack came out, we have to rebuy psp's to continue to work.
YOU KNOW WHAT IS SO *****ING SAD? NINTENDO WII IS OUTSELLING XBOX 360 40 TO 1 AHHAHAHAHAHAH ROFLMAO.
Xbox is considered an outsider product. I know 2 japanese guys who didn't like xbox at all since day 1 because it is not a japanese company product.
It's good to see the PSP get some love - its unjustly marginalised by those who don't have one, and it's so undeserved.
I have all the consoles and the PSP is still the one that gets the most love.
Eh, as far as I can recall, PSP was pretty much neck-and-neck with the DS before MHP2G came out, even outselling the Wii on occassions. So it will probably just stabilise. I can't see PSP sales dropping way below the DS. Japanese developers will try to take advantage of the MH audience, as Kojima already said he would. So expect PSP to shine from here on.
Well they don't buy a lot of PS3s either. Japanese don't buy many Xbox's not because it's an outsider product, but because it's a piece of sh*t product that breaks down frequently and rips you off with add-ons that's already in the PS3.
Japanese taste in games have also changed dramatically. They seem to be more into casual, mobile games you can play anywhere. That's why the Wii, DS and PSP are more successful than the bigger home consoles.
Where i live nintendo owns sony in selling consoles(i live in canada). Like during christmas, don't even try to find a Ds while the psp is just standing there. I think its bcuz the psp is more adult like.
Its funny, when an article is on various platforms and then alot of Fanboy comments arise.
These comments are just stupid. Mainly just Dodo.
Sure Monster Hunter is good but don't forget God Of War COO, and FFVII Crisis Core. Those games put DS games to shame in my opinion. The PSP has games near PS2 quality along with way more features than the DS offers. I have a launch PSP and I am still extremely happy with it.
Just to see what all the hubbub is about in Japan, I'll download it and check it out.
I really don't see how the DS can come close to the PSP, especially when we have CFW. Just too good to be true =)
If anyone wants to add my Go!Messenger nickname, it's "metaljody1990"
And Remember the XBOX!! The antecedent of it?! Is not even on the list!! And PS2 Still on it!
PS2 games still hitting the deck because:
Almost everyone owns a PS2
Games are fun and comes to a variety of Clasification for children and adults
They are cheap, more now than ever...
So take that Xbox 360!
And PSP it beats NDS because of the Graphics and games, but NDS beat it some times because of his "Touch Screen" Thats all and cames more fun and Child like games that Girls and Children likes...
Thats why it outsells the Sony PSP, nothing more, is a GBA with a Touch screen and a new Hole....
Thats all! lol
O well Go SONY!
PSPMAN90
ds is no good huh so that's why it has sold over 70mil lol no wait it's the fact that it has actual games instead of movies. Sales are the main reason that determnes what's better, and in this situation nintendo has been doing this since it began....always has always will.
