Japan Monthly Sales (June 2006)

Ó

RightThis is the first Japanese sales post we'll be doing in a monthly format. It makes it much easier to compare with the USA sales posts. The trends are very different in Japan as you can see. For example, compare the DS numbers with the USA! And of course, our wonderful friend the Xbox 360 isn't seen the same way in the Land of the Rising Sun...
  • DSL: 719,716
  • PSP: 121,576
  • PS2: 106,831
  • NDS: 38,914
  • GBASP: 19,825
  • GBM: 7,163
  • 360: 6,818
  • GCN: 4,960
  • GBA: 98
  • XBX: 53
The numbers are for May 29th - July 2nd, as were the NPD USA numbers. That's five weeks of sales. Three titles reached new milestones last month. New Super Mario Bros. passed the 2 million sold mark and both Brain Training games passed 2.5 million! A few PSP games also made the weekly Top 10s, such as Itadaki Street Portable: Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. GBA and Xbox are missing a week of sales because we couldn't find the numbers, but I don't think anybody really minds... Uh, add 10 - 20 for both?

#1 will live and die alone, I guarantee it. Do you sit here and refresh the page every 20 seconds like some kind of freak?

Anyway, I'm glad more people are going to broadband internet... no seriously the DS Lite is way better than the big ass old one.

DSL stands for DS Lite, as in the Nintendo DS Lite.

People don't understand

It's because Nintendo loves their fans.

Sony will do whatever it takes to make some quick cash

Any kind of games, doesn't matter how long their ***** lasts.

Sales are slacking for PSP, and rising for the DS LITE

Sony won't give up and are still here to pick up the fight.

With us around, the Sony PSP will not fail,

But the Nintendo DS Lite may continue to prevail.

Homebrew keeps the PSP's faith a live my friends,

And the PSP's reign will not end.

the only reason the psp is dying is because the games are so... s hit ty like some are very good and others are crap. and with the psp's power by far better then the ds's i dont understand why sony is still shooting out the s hi t games. the ds has some pretty fun games by the looks of it.. sony you are a let down you money muncher *sigh*

I really don't understand you people yo whine about the PSP and can't belive how the DSL is selling like crazy.. well whould you be happy if Sony put's out a new looking PSP say.., PSP lite, I DON"T THINK SO, and if they did would you buy it....I DON"T THINK SO, but our crazy friends in Japan will go crazy for the new thing and buy it like theres no tomorow. what am trying to say is don't mind the sales support the company that makes the games you like...by buying the games not downloading the ISO's. if ther is anything sony needs to do is to come up with that GPS ASAP and maybe that will even the score, later.

# sales...Guest 2006-07-23 15:19
seems to me that the psp is doin fine...i mean it is a year and a half old...still goin strong. i would be more worried about the sales of the more new systems out there....like...ummmmm...the lamebox 360....that crap box is going down faster than the umd movie format here in the states. looks like ms should stop shippin those huge paper weights to japan...nobody is buyin them....DSL is a cool little toy....the owners will buy a psp when they get old enough

# hereGuest 2006-07-23 15:23
i think theres more younger ppl who play video games, and most ppl who buy psps r older generally. so theres are more young ppl, and the pecentage in young ppl who play video games are higher than in older ppl. so of course ds lite is better.. for kids...yea. ok bye. dont try to argue wit me *****garrrrr

# both r pretty goodGuest 2006-07-23 15:34
Im not surprised at the DS lites successs. Being new on the market alot of Japanese ppl want it even if they have the old one because of the new sleek look. Im surprised they dont buy 360 alot.... Im tired of waiting for PS3 so might as well get one.

What I'm amazed at is how they continue selling over 100K PS2's a month! Doesn't everyone in Japan like already own one by now!? or is it becuase they play their PS2's to death and constantly need replacements?

These numbers really aren't all that different from the US numbers. DSL in first and PS2 winning out agains the 360. The same thing happened last month in the USA.

ok all i have to say is xbox360 is a really bad system and ds is still a good handheld. ds has alot of good games so i can see why the new ds is selling so good.

1. DS Lite was released 4 months ago in Japan. It's not riding on launch success like the DS Lite in USA.

2. The DS Lite is selling lots because older gamers are buying it. The average age of a DS owners in Japan is higher than PSP.

3. Fanboys on both sides calling the other side crap are idiots.

Ds has better games. Period. Psp has better hardware and games are the only reason why they are neck in neck over here in north america. The japanese recognize this and are buying the better system based on that alone and the sales reflect that. Most of the people I see here that own a psp own one because of the cool factor that sony has hit home with. And not actually because of the games.

Im not a fanboy by any means. I do own about 25 ds games though. And I own 6 psp games.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v483/wizkid007/collection.jpg

And about 600 other games.

And whoever posted number 19 is a moron.

Both system have their pros and cons. I prefer the PSP because it has more multimedia feaatures.

In other news... The 360 sucks, will continue to suck, and will always suck. That system won't get a large fanbase when the PS3 comes out. Serioulsy. If all the people who bought PS2's buy PS3's that's another 100 million plus units sold. Especially in Japan. Microsoft should just pull out of Japan and concentrate elsewhere. Even though it won't help, because Microsoft can't hide from Sony in November, they will save themselves the embarrassment of those small numbers in Japan. They can try all they like but Japan will never accept that system or future Microsoft systems, if they don't end up like the Dreamcast first. HA

I don't understand why the Japanese can afford to own more than one DS + DSL, and still complain about the price of PS3?

Shouldn't they leave the complains to normal people like you and me?

this post appears on the xbox 360 tab, and since so many xbox 360 user like to say how great the xbox 360 system is, why are you guys in silent now? when i explain how i predicted the sale for ps3 will beat xbox 360, everyone went amuck , sigh this prove that i was right that ps3 sale in japan is way > xbox 360 sale in japan, and also some predicted ps3 sale in Japan > xbox 360 sale in usa.

I'm always suprise for the PSP. Don't forget it's 50% more expensive then the DS.

I'M sure when sony will lower the price along side the new FF7 game for the PSP, Ds will come in second.
