Japan hardware sales: Nintendo DS declines to third place |

The top three contending platforms in Japan are the DS, the Wii, and the PSP. Usually it's the Nintendo platforms that dominate the first and second spot, but that's not the case this week. It seems the DS is losing a bit of its selling power.
For the week of January 28 to February 3, the Nintendo DS has landed on third place. No worries for Nintendo though; DS sales may have declined since last week, but Wii sales have risen. The Wii is currently sitting pretty in first place.
What's odd is that all of the other consoles have had an increase in sales since last week; it's only the DS that's declined in sales. Perhaps it's only a blip in the charts. We'll wait for next week's sales report and see if it's becoming a trend.
Here are the hardware figures for Japan for the week ending on January 27:
- Wii: 94,473
- PSP: 72,528
- DS Lite: 67,472
- PS3: 41,796
- PS2: 12,115

more PSPs sold in Japan than DS' in a given week.. I wonder whats gotten the Japanese people buying PSPs all of a sudden.
I dont think the japanese market is big on God of War.. are they?
GOW: CoO won't be done until later this year even if the franchise was popular in Japan, which I don't believe it is. Everybody's Golf (Hot Shots Golf, here), Monster Hunter, and FF7 Crisis Core, surely aren't hurting their sales in Japan either. Those frachises are huge over there.
They have had a good variety of PS1 titles released on the PSN store in recent months and now that gamers can download games without a PS3, I'm sure that's helping game sales quite a bit. We never see any sales figures for how their PSN titles are doing. Also, their selection of PS1 titles is gigantic compared to what other regions have gotten. That could be having an effect, too.
I mean, cmon, by now they've got to be getting to the point where everyone has one, or at least access to one if they only want one or two games, but cant be bothered buying their own.
Wii sales have risen, because of SSMB, of course, but that's obvious.
What I really wonder is why the PS3 is still selling so bad.(well, not actually bad, but in comparison...)
And why M$ sold so much Xbox 360s.
PS2 is still doubling 360 sales in Japan hahahahha. That is seriousley how it should be here in NA...too many damn 360 fanboys.

actually lol that's what's happening with the ps3 here in the usa.Too bad the the 360 is outselling the ps3 almost 2-1 in a month to month basis with them both almost the same price.
Actually the Wii will win the console war, so I guess there isn't much to say with the ps3 & 360 fighting for second place.Oh n I think the 360 is doing great since it has the highest attach rate in history.
That's very interesting. I wonder if it'll stay this way? The DS has just always been on top with the Wii in 2nd so I'm guessing it's just a good title on both the PSP and Wii that have temporarily pushed them up.
PS3 is understandable. It's not a great system - not as many good games as the 360, poor online compared to Live, the removal of B/C, few good titles on PSN. I mean I don't like the 360 very much but it's really is a better setup.
PS3 needs that killer title and it needed it months ago.
