Media Create: Hardware Sales in Japan for January 21 to January 27 - Image 1

The Nintendo DS and the Wii have a special place in the hearts of Japanese gamers. In terms of hardware sales, It's usually the DS on top and the Wii at the second spot. Not so for the week of January 21 to 27.

While the DS still maintains its spot on first place, the PSP has claimed second spot. The PSP usually ranked third on the Japanese charts (the notable exception was the period that followed the release of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7, where the PSP ranked first place).

Overall, hardware sales for that week have declined since the week before it, most likely because consumers are getting more attached to their money now that the winter holidays are over. Here are the hardware figures for Japan for the week ending on January 27:
  • DS Lite - 79,370
  • PSP - 77,933
  • Wii - 74,544
  • PS3 - 34,363
  • PS2 - 11,364
  • Xbox 360 - 4,296

How is the ps2 outselling the xbox360?

» of course

Well of course, it's in Japan. I mean, you could release a NES with a new design for 200$ and it will sell a lot more than the Xbox...

There was a time where the PS2 sold more than the PS3 if I recall right (it might have been worldwide numbers)
