Japan game hardware sales as of February 25 |

Cheesemeister at the NeoGAF Forums highlights the Japan game hardware sales for the week February 19 to 25. The data, coming from Japanese game market analyzers Media Create, reports the following console and handheld sales totals for the week ending February 25:- DS: 136,260
- PSP: 100,210
- Wii: 78,506
- PS3: 19,315
- 360: 4,183
The stylish DS and the innovative Wii still hold the upper hand in Japan, while the Playstation 3 leads the Xbox 360 in a four-fold fashion. The PSP has, by far, the most phenomenal sales of the week - mostly because of the popularity and high demand for Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable 2nd, which holds a weekly total of 705,281 units sold.

a Monster Hunter 3 announced for PS3...but there is no actual news, screen shots, etc on it, just an entry for it at GameSpot...but that means it has already been thought up ;)

1. Dragon Quest IX: Defender of the Stars-+-Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass-+- Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings-+-Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fate-+-Archaic Sealed Heat....Those are just some of the RPG's coming for DS..

The PS2, GBA and GameCube entries were omitted since the blog doesn't have those in focus...yet. The Xbox 360 isn't in the top five, and was never meant to look that way, even with the bulleted numbers.
The image explains all. DS Lite is notably missing from the figures. Perhaps it's already included into the DS figures.

I am not saying PSP is the end-all handheld or anything. Damn, I only play mine for Metal Gear Portable Ops and homebrew, but to say a jump from 30k to 100k is poor is pretty ridiculous. I really do not think PSP will end up winning anything, but it sure as hell isn't dead yet.

anyway its still too early to see who won the nxt gen format as it realy juz started, wii may lead over sony and xobx may lead over sony now but cuz the PS3 sell for like 2.5 times the Wii price and 1.5 of teh Xbox360 price, i see that all from the above information that the PS3 and Wii is actually earning somewhat around the same with Wii leading by juz maybe 10%?. And as to handheld console i see neither of them (PSP or NDS) dying anywhere soon as i think both PSP and NDS is great, both has great library of games catered for diiferent types of gamers

Ok based on the FACTS, you are all 360d up and retard strong. Any REAL analyst will say console wars open christmas 07. Even then, based on how many Wiis have sold in such a short time to speculate that 360 will hold the #1 spot even longer than 1 year after Wii's launch is just stoooopid.
Has anyone seen the sales numbers for the new Gundam game for the PS3. The hardware sales for Japan are about to skyrocket. You'll see a noticeable increase in the coming weeks for the PS3. The PSP is also getting some great titles and is moving up in the ranks and not just in Japan. The tide is gonna start shifting for the PS3 as soon as they launch in Europe, and even more when titles like F.F. XIII, MGS 4 and Killzone 2 make it into the market place. Xbots be afraid be very afraid. hahahahahahah lol.

I can still see the xbox360 people saying that the PS3 is a flop. LOL. MicroSux just don't care about quality; then again coming from the software industry where the users are ultimately the Beta testers, I can see why. Until they get serious about quality, they will not win or even come close.
I would also like to add that I would take a PSP over an I Pod or DS any day of the week.
Ehh... I dunno about that. A third of a freakin' year later, the PS3 STILL has no good games (Resistance was fun, but Gears of War was much better), BluRay movies are STILL way overpriced, and I STILL regret waiting in line 2 days for mine... I should have spent my $800 on a laptop or a PC upgrade.
On the other hand, I freaking love my PSP. Of all my systems, I play it the most often. Best console evar!!1
1. An RPG with little or no effort put in isn't fun. Quantity is always trumped by quality.
2. Rapidly tapping the screen is very rarely fun. Meteos was the only notable exception.
3. Metroid Prime: Hunters wasn't fun. It could have been awesome, but fell far short.
I loved the DS until the developers for it decided to stop making fun games.

I have done my research and have many reasons why xbox 360 has already won, I don't like to talk about the nintendo wii not because I am not sure about it but because of one simple reason the wii does not matter why? just look at all the big games coming out this year which systems are they coming out for, they are coming out for Playstation 3 and xbox 360 and the majority of people will go for the cheaper system (xbox 360) especially since the games are going to look the same on both systems, by the end of the year meaning by december 31, 2007, I predict the worldwide numbers will be, nintendo wii about 12 million, playstation 3 about 5 million and the xbox 360 about 18 million and from then on the xbox 360 will pull away and not have any competition for the rest of this generation just watch and see.

Xbox bloke - it's great that you feel strongly about your system but you are clearly in an uninformed, unoriginal, M$ biased mind-set which is very dissapointing. I too am biased but I am biased towards future proofed HD technology and VFM, not a Manufacturer name. The sales figures that are reflected in America now will change, there is no avoiding the fact that the PS3 is a True and pure HD system (in Vision and Sound - dolby 7.1 anyone?) and that we will all be heading down the HD path soon and that's why we'll buy the console that caters to that need. The fact is when you buy the PS3 you have an all in one HD package 'out of the box', the most powerful Games console to date, Bluray HD playback, Internet browser, Free online (although limited compared to live but then it is FREE and will improve as fast as M$ as far as content/features are concerned), PSP connectivity (soon via the internet - take the 60gig HDD (even bigger if you upgrade) anywhere in the world), wifi and Bluetooth, True digital HD output, Multiple card reader functionality (for some, this is actually more important than it sounds), Multi directional interactive controller, and all this is why consumers will buy Sony. Tim Ellis at HMV said "although the price may seem steep, especially when it comes to non-core PlayStation fans, the PS3 is much more than just a games console". He also says that "gamers know this already and will respond to the product accordingly". Analysts have predicted that the PS3 will win the console war, this could well be true as the PS2 is still outselling 360s worldwide, therefore unless something goes drastically wrong, most of todays PS2 buyers (there are more than 100 million PS2s sold so far) are tomorrows PS3 buyers.

Let's see...the Xbox360 has been out for about a year longer than the PS3, so if the Xbox360 had sold less units that the PS3 total, I'd be a little worried for Microsuck. Oh, and by the way, for comparison, the Xbox360 had sold only 1.5 million systems worldwide when it was about as old as the PS3. Looks like Xbox isn't the best. :/

Go PSP! Not far behind DS. That's good. For its first attempt at the handheld market, I consider PSP a huhe success, a great gaming/multimedia/homebrew device and anyone to deny that is obviously Nintendwh0re.
As for PS3 sales, it's getting better. Yes it's selling less units than Wii because it's more expensive. In time it will change, especially after Europe launch which should give PS3 a huge boost towards catching up to xflop 1.5. Sony will rule again!

3. Crap control for the psp? If you'd rather poke a screen with a stick like in the DS, be my guest. Seriously, there is nothing wrong with the psp's controls, it just takes some time to get used to. I can even play FPS games like MoH Heroes perfectly.

Yeah sure the ipod is capable of hardware polygon and NURBS rendering, hardware directional lighting, clipping, environment projection and texture mapping, texture compression and tessellation, fogging, alpha blending, depth and stencil tests, vertex blending for morphing effects, etc etc. Good point, psp games are JUST like the iPod ones.

1st i never said i pod games are better than psp games.

I find most PSP games very enjoyable and the fact that the PSP doubles up as a complete entertainment device makes it worth every penny. Oh and there's homebrew that's being constantly developed. You may enjoy DS games, I dont. I'd rather rip heads off, race futuristic and real looking planes at breakneck speeds(M.A.C.H) and shoot bullets into real guys online(SOCOM) than jump blocks with mario, or breed dogs and stuff. I agree, the DS may appeal to those who only care about having fun with their portable console, but my definition of fun is different from yours. And FYI, on a more serious note, i think the DS is a fine device that suits kids of ages 5-10.. Older guys may use and enjoy the DS, but I'd rather go with the psp. I enjoyed playing mario, zelda etc on my old N64 as a kid, but I stopped playing when i turned 16. Now, i love and enjoy playing games, watchign movies, listening to music, browsing the web, radio, controlling my TV, etc etc on my psp.
