Japan: DSi smashes into the charts, Xbox 360 back in last place |
Ó
The DSi is so popular, it's selling like DSs - well, back when it was
still new.The DSi sold so incredibly well in Japan that stocks ran out on its second day, selling more than all the other consoles and handhelds combined (including sales of the DS Lite!).
Also in the news, the Xbox 360 sales boost seems to have died, and the console is back in last place. The PlayStation 3, on the other hand, sold 10 times (yes, that's right, 10 times) more than it did last week, when it sold a little below 4,000 units. The latest numbers show it sold close to 40,000 units. That's a big leap up.
Sony's had a pretty good week in Japan, with both the PSP and PS3 sitting pretty just below the DSi. Because of the PS3's massive sales boost though, the Xbox 360 is back in last place. Sales of the 360 seems to be waning after a few weeks of strong sales. Here are the hardware sales numbers for the week ending on November 3:
- DSi: 171,925
- PSP: 50,358
- PS3: 39,587
- Wii: 23,123
- DS Lite: 16,369
- PS2: 6,714
- Xbox 360: 6,119

That was expected. After all it had 2 big launches.
Give it a few weeks and it will all come back to normal (Sales under 10k for both systems).
the ps2 came before the 360
At first I thought "nah, don't need one", but there's so much potential for the DS online store. Most of my Xbox and Wii games are digital downloads.
Also been hearing from friends over there that the new speakers are pretty incredible, even better than the fat DS and PSP.
Really? Wow, thanks for the info. Yet something else to look forward to. The speakers on the NDSL suck bad.
Well, this is not surprising news.
1. For as much as everyone claimed the DSi was lame, worthless and pointless there where even more people saying they couldn't wait. As usual the nay sayers fail miserably.
2. As was already mentioned the 360 had new SKU launches. This always happens because most people report VENDOR SALES and not CONSUMER SALES. It was always expected to watched numbers plummet. All the vendors dumped their discontinued stock and had to buy all new stock of the newer units. They did that up front in MASS. Now they're all sitting on the shelves waiting for people to buy them and the vendors are no longer buying up units.
3.
PS2: 6,714
Xbox 360: 6,119
That is just plain pathetic!!!!
So my point is sort of proven. That spike in sales was only because of Tales of Vesperia/Infinite Undiscovery. Those Japanese are crazy about anything that is Square.
However, what do you say about the Ps3 that has been coming at last place on the past few months?
Wasn't that pathetic also? lol
If it was below the PS2 then....yes.
But still not surprising in a day where people are watching their wallets.
Ohhh yes. I was halfway through Castlevania DoS when I got a Lite, and yea whilst the display was utterly beautiful the sound was really lacking.
Nintendo did say that the speakers had been improved on the DSi but nobody has mentioned it since.
wow sounds lame to me. dsl speakers sucked? i had no idea. ds games sound like garbage to me 90% of the time so i find it hard to tell. i thought the dsl were nice and loud though, maybe someone just blew the ones on the one you tried. too bad square supports this thing cuz ff3 &4 woulda been waaaay better on ps2 or psp... (even psn woulda been good.) anyways, enjoy your new dsi guys. (personally ima stick with my lite so i can play my gb titles with my r4, lol dont hate me)
oh dang it just when I was bout to start M$ screw up again
So it begins. MS, your days are numbered in the land of the rising sun and so...
Victory is ours!
Of course the DSi is sold out. How is that news to anybody? It just came out. That proves nothing. It is just a lame new hardware revision with useless new features and the same crap games.
Not as bad as the newest PSP, but close.
As ISOHeavy advocates, we should all be concerned the 360 is not selling well in Japan. This affects the, uh games? No, great games coming all the time, not like the hot-selling Wii with a huge game library of CRAP!
ISOHeavy fails at life.
