James Bond Leaves EA for Activision

That's right. No longer will EA be creating the titles featuring James Bond. That job rests with Activision. Today, MGM Interactive Inc. and EON Productions Inc. gave a press release that Activision now holds the video game rights to James Bond. Whether or not the change in companies will produce better quality in gameplay remains to be seen. The game most fondly remembered in the franchise is still GoldenEye 007 developed by Rare and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. It's actually quite surprising that Microsoft didn't try to get the rights for this. Does anyone else think that the best course of action would be for Free Radical (developers of TimeSplitters containing most of the GoldenEye and Perfect Dark staff) to develop the series and have Activision publish it?

007 Everything or Nothing was pretty solid, it wasn't FPS but it was still pretty good for a once through.

Never cared for Goldeneye, but just like Halo for some console only people it was their first FPS so they tend to think its the greatest.

I wonder if this makes any difference towards GoldenEye being on the Wii's Virtual Console?

Sure, EA wasn't great with the Bond games but Activision is crap too. I must say that EA was starting to get Bond right, but now I guess they have thrown in the towel. Too bad none of the Bond games have been that great in a while.

Ahhh, Activision can do some things with the license. I'll give them a chance. I definitly would of liked the License landing in the Ubisoft camp. Thats a developer that can truly make a Bond game shine given the appropiate time & team. I hope Rare gets it one day down the road. Till this day they still have the best release of a Bond game ever. On top of that, it was perfectly accurate to the movie along with a damn fun multiplayer. Something you don't see much of these days.

» Free Radical - Duh!

I've been saying that for the last, like, 5 years! EA makes a sequel to GoldenEye. F.R. makes games for EA. So one should believe that F.R. would've made Rogue Agent, right? Nope. EA made it with some other weird developer, and we all know how Goldeneye Rogue Agent turned out.

Is Free Radical even allowed to make games for Activision, though? If they are, I hope that the folks over there have the sense to put F.R. on the next Bond game...

» Activision isn't really the licence's knight in shining armor either....

Activision does the same crap EA does by putting out mediocre games at a consistent rate...THAW on the XB360? WTF? And they even managed to sink Doom 3 from greatness. (Probably not their fault.)

I dont think Free Radical should get the rights to Bond. Goldeneye was a masterpiece, and the pinaccle of the team. I think they should just leave it high, than to kill it later with a crappy game. (like perfect dark zero)
