Jack Thompson - Image 1Shortly after Jack Thompson's recent allegations between the purported links between Department of Defense and the gaming industry, Thompson has jumped to Omaha, Nebraska in the wake of the Westroads Mall tragedy, where Robert Hawkins killed eight people and committed suicide.

Thompson attempted to inquire about what was stored in Hawkin's computer, to check if violent video games were installed, in order to prove his theory about the correlation of video games and violence. However, Omaha Police Chief Thomas Warren refused Thompson's request to check the computer. The police have commented that the contents of the hard drive are not a matter of public record.

Because of the refusal, Thompson has filed a lawsuit against Warren. "These games are actually rehearsal devices that teach techniques and scenarios and methodologies on how to kill that they wouldn't otherwise have," the Florida attorney said.

» I hope to god nobody takes him seriously

Yeah alright let's just pretend the constitution doesn't extist and go through all of his personal unrelated files. And what about when there are no violent videogames on his computer? I'm guessing he wants to check the computer because the person didn't own any platforms. What makes him think that there will be violent videogames on his computer? Even if there are, who's to say he didn't just play it once and then never again? This is so insane. How does taking case studies of violent people that happen to play videogames prove that they make people violent? By that logic, I could prove that eating spicy peppers makes people violent. After all, they're spicy and hurt your tongue. Pain is a negative reaction, more negative energy going on in the brain makes people more angry. So I can prove that eating peppers makes people violent and angry by finding a couple of crazy people that happened to like spicy food and say that I have a clear study proving that peppers make people evil? That is not in any way how a psychological study is preformed. If Thompson wants any credibility, he should make a study where he takes a representative sample of people of all ages and genders and races, has half of them play violent videogames and then the other half of them play a children's videogame, and then test their anger before and after. Oh wait, that's already been done, and the studies have all either been unconclusive or found that there was a small increase in anger that can easily be managed by basic parent involvement. The worst part of it all is when he makes up links between crazy case studies and violent videogames like with the Virginia Tech guy. Thompson came 8 hours afterwards and said to everyone that it was the violent videogames that made him do it. It wasn't until later that they realized that he didn't even own any videogames. The crazy guy's roomate was on the daily show once and he said that he had never even seen his roomate play violent videogames before.

» mreverdred01 right on the money

This is so sad Mr.Thompson just give it up there is no proof violent videogames causes people to kill if that were the case we would have hundreds of mall shootings a day

» he is so bored, he needs a life, get a real job

books have violent stuff in them, some that provide such horrific imagination, even more so than video games. I don't see him asking to check for books with violent content. thompson is just trying to be a di*k pretending he is all for safety of the ppl. Also movies, there are tons of shooting in those, and some the shooter gets away with it; so what should we ban movies too. i'm guessing his ideal world is for everyone to live in a box and "sit" for fun. Forget about eating, who knows what horrors you might learn when holding ur eating utensils, u may suddenly learn to stab someone after stabbing your steak with a knife or use chopsticks to poke at things. sry for the long comment, just had to get it out of my system.

» Sheesh...

...because filing a lawsuit against the police chief makes all the sense in the world.

Thompson is like a little kid...he just screams and cries when he doesn't get his way.

I think this country's issue with numerous frivolous lawsuits is worse than this supposed "games=teen violence" BS.

» We need to kill him

I think that someone needs to kill jack Thompson and then say he was influenced by video games to get off. I think that it would be very funny. But i kind of have a sick humor, also i had a sick humor before i started playing games.

» Interesting, Jack...

Y'know, I recall a mister Adam Sessler saying something to the effect of

"I believe that there are greater reasons for the social ills of adolescent violence than playing a video game, because I believe that violence was existing prior to the release of even Pong."

» Attorney Licensed Banned

I hope that the industry eventually gets his license of attorney banned or whatever he works for. Because lawsuit against a cop. There will just be more cops and people of the sort bringing him to court. And they'll just attack his comments.

And it will just be one big mess.

» way to go

You're right on the money there mr!

But honestly, I hope he keeps pulling crap like this, it's only further destroying his credibility.

» Just a short note...

I actually live just south of Omaha, and go to school with some of his former friends. They said he never really played games. They also said he was fine when they saw him last, which was about a week before the shooting.
