Jack Thompson and Take-Two settle |
Ó
Jack Thompson and Take-Two Interactive have reached a settlement on two pending legal actions in Florida. The lawsuits began last month with Take-Two Interactive filing one against Thompson based on his threats to sue the company in order to prevent the release of Manhunt 2 and Grand Theft Auto IV. Thompson filed a counter-suit against Take-Two citing the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) act. The recent settlement was filed with Federal District Court Judge Cecilia Altonaga which had both parties agreeing to drop the lawsuits they filed against each other. In addition, Take-Two has also agreed to drop the contempt of court case which happened in the hearing for Bully.
Thompson, on the other hand, will never sue or threaten to sue Take-Two or any of its subsidiaries to block sale or distribution of any game the company is publishing. He is also barred from communicating with any of the company's business associates with allegations that selling Take-Two games is illegal or wrong. He is not restricted from criticizing Take-Two games and is still allowed to act as counsel in lawsuits against Take-Two filed by other parties. Any future contact of Thompson with Take Two will have to be coursed through Take-Two's attorneys.
So does this mean that Jack Thompson is out of Take-Two's hair forever? We can't say for certain, but the settlement might be enough to stop him from harassing the company.
You can find a copy of the entire settlement documentation here.

I realize settling is probably the better business decision, but I think Take-Two should have taken this chump to court, just to make him look like a fool and shut him the f*ck up
now he just has to pay someone to sue T2 and be their lawyer, like that'll stop him
he wants to win, plus i knew korean kids don't really play games much when they get older. you blame video games because your not even holding a gun and u can't jump into the t.v. lol. now jacky screwed again winner is public people, loser is jacky. jacky is the bully to people punishing others for nothing. jacky has to know his lame religion that is don't make a sin, loser .
Say it with me now...

What’s the biggest question in gaming industry?
- Which will win in this next-gen console war: PS3, X360 or Wii? This is absolutely the winner.
There’re other very big questions like:
- Which one will be the king FPS: Halo 3 or Killzone 2?
- Can it (just enter any A title: Metal Gear Solid 4, FF13, Devil May Cry 4, Halo 3, Killzone 2, Crysis, Bioshock, GTA4, Team Fortress 2, Warhawk, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet or Spore et cetera) live up to its hype?
- Are they (MGS4, FF13, etc) going for multi-platform?
My first question up there is definitely the biggest question by a big margin. No other questions could be bigger than that.
Based on reports and statistics
- PS3: 3.2 million units sold (Nov.2006 - Apr.2007: for 6 months)
> 0.53 M per month
- Wii: 6.1 M sold (Nov.2006 - Apr.2007: for 6 months)
> 1.01 M per month
- X360: 11.5 M sold (Nov.2005 - Apr.2007: for 18 months)
> 0.64 M per month
Wii consoles are being sold with fastest rate; then X360; then PS3.
Wii > X360 > PS3
So, you think this f+cking Wii will win in this next-gen war?
Most analysts I read say either PS3 or X360 will win, eventually; therefore, let’s completely forget about Wii; Wii is just a fad (temporary popularity).
Now, we are almost there for conclusion. So, you think X360 will win in this war because X360 consoles are sold with faster rate? Let me just add one more info here.
- X360: 9.1 M sold (Nov.2005 - Nov.2006: for 13 months)
> 0.7 M per month
- X360: 2.4 M sold (Dec.2006 – Apr.2007: for 5 months)
> 0.48 M per month
Until Nov. 2006, when X360 has been the only next-gen console, 0.7 million X360s were sold per month. Then PS3 and Wii were released for the first time. Since then until now (Apr. 2007), only 0.48 million X360s have been sold every month (on average). This 0.48 million X360 units are even lower than the number of PS3s.
People had to buy a lot of X360s until Nov. 2006 only because X360 was the only option they had... Monopoly... There were no other options...
So, what can save this ever-falling X360 console (from HELL)?
Halo 3? Not a chance... because...
Halo 3 will be humiliated first then trampled by Lair (cinema quality motion), Ratchet & Clank (Walt Disney meets Pixar), Warhawk (next-gen Unreal Tournament 3), Heavenly Word (next-gen God of War 3) and Killzone 2 (next-gen Half-Life 3). All these will be released in Jul to Sep. 2007. So, in a few months, X360 will get one AAA game when PS3 will get 5 AAA games... Sigh, way to go Microsoft!
And just wait a few more months from that time; PS3 owners will exclusively have Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy 13 and Final Fantasy versus 13. These are X360’s death sentence.
Wii isn't a fad. Wii is what brought millions of people into the gaming industry, including people that would otherwise never have played a video game in their life, like old grandmas, businessmen, housewives, teen athletes, and even gamers who would have otherwise either quit the industry or picked up another console. Wii will have several 'AAA' within the next three months, too, like Super Smash Bros 3, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Spider-Man 3, Pokemon Colisseum 3, The Godfather Blackhand Edition, and Scarface Wii.To be totally honest, yes, maybe Wii will eventually run it's course, and PS3 will rule supreme. But, I agree with one thing you said: 360 WILL die out almost completely by September, minus the brief Halo run. Yes, 360 will be humiliated. Microsoft should NEVER have entered the gaming industry. My point is, Wii will have great sway over people (already done?), 360 will die, and PS3 will become greater and maybe one day rule. But don't bash the Wii. It earned the fame it got.
blah blah blah blah Not on topic, didn't read it, go home.

halflife 2 ep 2 IS NEXT GEN. pc gfx will always be better than console.
As long as Thompson doesn't mess with Capcom or Konami... it's all good.
