It's on: Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony all geared up for E3 |
Listed in: News Tags: Don Mattrick, ESA, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony

One thing Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony have in common is that they all think this year's E3 is going to be a big one. Huge, really. Microsoft in particular believes that their presence at the expo will "completely transform" peoples' perceptions of home entertainment. Here are the big three's statements in all their glory, taken from an ESA press release.
From Microsoft's Don Mattrick:
Microsoft is gearing up for a big presence at E3 which will completely transform how people think about home entertainment. We're excited about the momentum that is building in the industry in anticipation of our June 1st media briefing, which will kick off E3 in blockbuster style.
From Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime:
Nintendo has been a long time attendee of E3 and it has our full support. E3 brings a wide variety of key audiences into contact with products from many companies, including Nintendo. It's the place where creativity is on display, and as a 'sneak peak' for our entire industry it helps generate excitement for gamers around the world.
From Sony's Jack Tretton:
Sony Computer Entertainment America is looking forward to another great showing at this year's E3 Expo. The audience of North American-based and foreign media and key industry partners makes E3 Expo an ideal place for us to unveil the latest PlayStation news and products at our press event on June 2.
E3 2009 will take place from June 2 to 4 at the LA Convention Center.

Last time they said that it was just a lame new interface...
Anyway, E3 shows are cool but I'd prefer non-stop annoncements instead of PSN-store-like "from times to times" annoncements (PSN is each week, not everyday...)

This means that Xbox's will now come with mandatory fire extinguishers and cold towels! lawls. No but considering they said last time, that the competition was "on vacation" when they ultimately got laughed at for the whole Mii copy. I think that's a pretty bold statement, IMO. I'm betting they unveil some Wiimote-type thing and adopt Blu-Ray into some new Xbox elite type bundle. Probably adjust their interface, nab another exclusive and call it all their own innovation. That said I'm really eager to see what rolls out this year from all sides. Gotta love the more humble comments from SCEA and Ninty. Whatever happens, as long as MS doesn't throw around that self-proclaimed innovator stuff, I won't rag on em' too much.

theres no way blu-ray will be added to 360 (for many reasons), and a wiimote-type controller is doubtful, but its true that some sort of motion control may be possible.

I'm honestly reaching when I say MS would add Blu-Ray and Wii-Motes, but given their track record, I'd say those are possible. I figure Blu-Ray wouldn't work, given that 360 games run on DVD-9. But don't you think it'll look bad when FFXIII hits and runs on 8 or so DVDs? It'll look like Xbox really is a cheap alternative to HD gaming. I'm just saying if they don't that's what it would look like and their E3 showing will be average. I'm not trying to say they can't have a good showing otherwise, but that's what comes to mind when talking about MS.
We can compare games all day, but I wanna see something big for gaming that's not just some debatable AAA titles.

FYI I actually don't own a Wii or anything Ninty for that matter, I just haven't really played anything Ninty since probably super mario 64. There is one Wii in my house but my cousin bought that, and it's never used. I'm sorry you can't read past "Mii copy" without jumping to conclusions. I'm saying what was the general idea of it. Yeah, I'm aware of avatars, but you're saying I need to check history before I ca use a general term to describe MS avatars? Yeah let's go back in time so I can give credit to the originators of avatars. Wow.

i also believe if mircosoft wanted 2 use blu-ray
in the future they can. sony helped 2 make the cd and dvd and thats not exclusive 2 sony.
sony helped 2 make bluray and if companies what didnt help make it like panasonic has bluray players why cant M$

It is rather pathetic!!! They did exactly what Apple does to them all the time. Take something that already exists and put a little spin on it. Absolutely NO originality.

But some of us like to see all the goodies in person as well as play with all the demos in person.
Actually, you're missing out on a LOT!!!

Ohh and *****bandit I'm sorry to hear you don't own any Ninty console, it's a shame you didn't get to own so many of the greatest games on history which were on the N64 and SNES (including the best game IMO: Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time). This gen consoles don't have games like the N64 had :S

Lawls, leave it to someone to try and generalise the notion that companies copy each other. First of all, I like to put it as "existing ideas improved", saying copy sounds so childish. I'd say Sony didn't 'copy' motion sensing. No it was more like they saw that Ninty might actually catch on, and thought they'd try to fool the public too with "motion sensing is teh FUTUREZ". I'd hardly say six degrees of motion is copying lol. But when you look at MS avatars, that is blatantly copying lol. See, but that's just basic MS tactics though, anybody who knows MS knows this. By your logic, we can say Ninty copied Sony's Eyetoy then? But yeah that's why I don't say copy. For one, it gets the fanboys panty's in a twist. Two, there's a big difference between copying, and copying something but improving it.
Besides, these are inevitable things that will get implemented in all consumer electronics. Look at PS3's online functions: it's got almost everything now MINUS the illusion that paying to connect to your own internet makes it "better". Xombies will swear up and down Sony "copied" MS, but actually what they just did was bring gamers what they ultimately wanted: free netplay. Ninty has done it too(albeit not as good as it should but free online play is there), but again these are inevitable evolutions in home gaming. I see XBL subscriptions like a bear trap, I hate them, they can make an unknowledgeable , lazy person feel obligated to the service. And I had an annoying experience cancelling my original Xbox's live service, and I used it a grand total of two months.

Sony had a home button on the PSP before the 360, it was logical and expected that the next PS console would also have one, also expected was the XMB. now tell me, where else on the PS controler would you put a home button?
