Target confirms Manhunt 2 pullout - Image 1We've heard it from the rumor mills, and we've heard it from an employee. And now, we'll be hearing it straight from the horse's mouth. Target has just come out with an official statement announcing that Manhunt 2 from Rockstar for the Sony PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 2, and Nintendo Wii will no longer be available on their store shelves.

A representative from the retailer explained one major reason for Target's decision to pull out the game was because of the recently discovered censor hack for Manhunt 2's PSP port. Here reads the representative's statement:

All video games and computer software sold at Target currently carry ratings by the Entertainment Software Rating Board — from early childhood through mature audiences. While Manhunt 2 was given a Mature rating by the ESRB, we received additional information that players can potentially view previously filtered content by altering the game code. As a result, we have decided not to carry the game.

In line with this news, Target has reportedly sent memos out to their store branches to stop selling the game, and to refuse any future deliveries of the game on any of its platforms.

Even though, for this hack to work, the person needs to rip the game to a computer (Requires Custom Firmware), Use a program to extract files from the ISO, edit these files, put the files back and compile as an ISO again, copy onto a Memory Stick around 2GB, then boot the game from Memory Stick (ISO Loader or Custom Firmware). I REALLY don't see some 8 year old kid ACCIDENTALLY doing all of that.

Well, I'm going to go to Target this evening, and ask for the game (Act like I don't know what's going on), and when they say that they don't carry it, I will ask for the store manager. Then I will let him know that I will buy at competitor's store from now on to let him know that the removal of this product will cause a loss of sales within the gaming community. Hopefully his boss will find out, and you never know maybe other people will let Target higher ups know that this is unacceptable.

Maybe "US" gamers, can try and make a difference, or we can just whine around all day about how unfair this situtation is.

"we received additional information that players can potentially view previously filtered content by altering the game code. As a result, we have decided not to carry the game."

Yeah sure, and you forgot that you can hack the teletubbies game to show blood and... *OMG* a boob...

C'mon America, calm down, you have much bigger than this.

besides, they're MUCH harder games than that, and they're allowed, not to mention some movies...

» actually

8 year olds are actually getting quite advanced at hacking. I mean, hey, look at freeplay.

by iamback(unregistered) - 2007-11-07 06:59
» really?

A boob. Seriously? Well, I guess I'd better buy that new teletubby game! (I'm just kidding, as you may be aware if you've read my comments in the Beowulf/Angelina article). Anyhow, if you think the boob and blood in teletubbies (if you're being serious) is bad, read this: http://www.rightgrrl.com/carolyn/teletubbies.html

GAH!!!

I think that's why that dude said "Accidentally", because the media is making it look like that it can be unlocked using a code like the famous "up, up, down, down, etc".

Are you seriously still whining about how I said that your retarded question was retarded?

Grow up, baby.

OK Mrs. soccer mom.

Nice to hear your stupid, useless opinion.

Affiliated with that Thomson guy?

You post useless comments lacking content on all manhunt 2 articles.

by Billie - 2007-11-08 10:52
» yep

I agree that all your comments on all Rockstar themed articles have no substance to them. They are just pointless opinions without any argument.

» Geesh!

Then don't buy it. I don't want someone else deciding what I can and can't buy just because they don't like it. This is America, after all...or it used to be.
