I'm not the bad guy: UGO CEO explains his side of 1UP sale drama |
Ó
UGO is not the bad guy in all this 1UP sale drama, this according to CEO J Moses. "How am I a bad guy?" Moses said in a phone interview with MTV Multiplayer. From his perspective, his company did no harm to 1UP. In fact, they saved it.We have just hired 24 people. At a time when all you read about is layoffs we have expanded UGO by 33 percent. I don't know of any content companies out there expanding their workforce. We did that because our business is robust and growing.
But fans are lashing out for the alleged "butchering" of the site. In their defense, Moses explains further:
We really have largely left it alone," he said. "We kept, we believe, the core editorial group that can continue to do great things. What we're adding is 1up.com as an editorial site that will sit on top of the UGO publishing site. And we kept who we believe are the critical people who can make up a great site.
In fact, they left up the decision of who get to keep their jobs in the hands of 1UP editorial director Sam Kennedy. As for the programs, Moses says that the video-casts and podcasts will continue to air, although not necessarily in the same format, schedule or cast. "But it will continue being a part of 1UP."
In closing, he stressed that while the events proved truly unfortunate for some, UGO is not to be blamed for it. "What we did is we offered 24 people jobs who may not have had jobs otherwise."

His company fired all of the people who were a big part of 1up, and he says they saved 1up? The site will be the same, and that's a terrible thing.
"UGO is not the bad guy in all this 1UP sale drama..."
Of course Yu-Gi-Oh is not the bad guy....
24 people have jobs that wouldn't have had them otherwise, like he said.
Be thankful 1up is still there at all.
ziff davis is going under, we all know that, I remember a time when ziff was the bad guy for purchasing EGM to begin with. If ziff hadn't sold 1up, it would have been catastrophic,, ziff doesn't have the funds to keep it going...
where it not for ugo, 1up would be a memory,, just like EGM.
LMAO. Nice.
