Jade Raymond talking to Hideo Kojima - Image 1Title says it all, folks. As if not content with inspiring each other, Ubisoft Montreal's Jade Raymond and Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima got together for an interview. Famitsu requested Assassin's Creed's producer to squeeze information out of the man who popularized the stealth action genre and hiding in cardboard boxes from Kojima Productions.

According to Develop's translation, Raymond asked Kojima how he creates his games for everyone considering the cultural differences and play styles of east and west. “The fundamentals of game design, and how the game controls, come from listening to my instinct, so those aspects get made first,” said the stealth master.

Talking about Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, he continued, “The rest we adjust depending on the region. For example, the new system where you can read books to restore your spirit is in all versions of the game, but things like the speed of the recovery are changed depending on region.”

As the producer of another violent game, Raymond asked the veteran game developer about his thoughts on video game violence, the issues surrounding it, and what it means to the Japanese market.

“I don’t think there are many games that tackle violence head on. When you hit someone or inflict pain, faces get disfigured for example, and I want to make games that show that sort of thing,” Kojima told Raymond.

Even if violence is pretty much a staple in Metal Gear since its first iteration, Kojima said he doesn't want it to be senseless. “If you don’t see the pain, you can’t understand what you’ve done, and you’ll pass through battles without taking responsibility for your actions. I don’t want to ignore that. I want players to think, even if it’s just a little, about what violence and war are.”

After admitting Assassin's Creed took inspiration from Kojima's Metal Gear Solid series, Jade steered the interview to what we've been waiting for. What does Kojima think of Ubisoft's blockbuster stealth action title? Here's what he said:

IÂ’ve got to choose my words carefully so that IÂ’m not misunderstood, but I think there are fewer developers around today who think about making a good game. As a creator, I find that sad, but when I see teams like the AssassinÂ’s Creed team it gives me confidence. I want AssassinÂ’s Creed to sell well.

Without a doubt, Ubisoft tried for something new in its latest title that broke sales records even with mixed critical reception. Now, if only Altair could find something to hide in other than bales of hay.

I do think Assassin's was a good game.. but.. Compared to metal gear its nothing.

Kojima has great ideas, its really crazy, but I think he's a lone wolf.

I think it'd only be a paradox if he'd actually been going back in time. Seeing as that's not what was happening...

peace,

You do go back in time... Dosnt matter if its a memory cause your still living the past.

Mister Common Sense I agree with you on this one. Everyone thinks shes good at making games just cause shes hot lol, but thats not true.

No it would not be paradoxal.....as since these are only memories you are re-living, you actually have no way to change the future that you are accessing these memories in.

Also, you go back in time as much as you do when you remember your 10th birthday........but this also throws other kinks into the story.

Like why have a game based on memory, obviously memory can't be changed, so why not just play it through.....it's strange to cast someone into the role of someone just to access memory.....and if they do something differently then the original altair did, would this not effect what happens down the line....and eventually corrupt that final memory they are trying to access ?

Meh.....it was a good try for a first game, and it's a great building block for the 2nd one...

how Kojima is really pushing the boundaries of gameplay in his next epic adventure.

Truly, using an oil barrell to hide in and then also being able to roll around in it to take out enemies....he must have found ex super spies and really picked their brains as to what a real espionage expert would do.....

Sorry but MGS is just too ridiculous to be taken seriously....and you people just encourage him...

I really hope I wasn't the only one who got a drastically different picture from the headline of the article :/

Ahem. Um. Well, talking about the topic at hand, I think they've been in a few podcasts together. Just imagine if they worked on a game together 8)

Of course you'd pick the smallest non-major thing in the whole game. A part dosnt even matter. Its not like rolling around in a barrel is gunna ruin the storyline and gameplay. And yes its a little weird, but its little stuff like the barrel that make metal gear unique.

Actually it does change somthing. Him going back and re-living the past makes him have the eagel eyes in the future at the end of the game.

It was his ancestor's memories and yet he got the power, so obviously it had to do with him going back and running through it.
