Hardware Giants Comment on E3 Media Festival

E3 StatueThis weekend's biggest news story was that of the death of the Electronic Entertainment Expo; it's replacement, the new "E3 Media Festival," will be happening in July next year. Now, the best part of E3 for many is the face off between the three hardware giants - Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft - in their annual Pre-E3 Press Conferences. We don't know if that will still be happening, but what's their stance on the E3 Media Festival?

Nintendo's PR manager in the UK, Rob Saunders, said, "I can confirm that Nintendo will be involved in the E3 expo next year," so at least expect to see them back. Not too surprising considering the success they had at E3 2006 with Wii.

Microsoft is riding the fence as the official word from the UK office was, "We're supportive of the move ESA has taken. It's still early days, and we're not in a position to talk about what Microsoft will be doing in regards to next year's E3, but we'll be making an announcement nearer the time." Take that as you will.

Sony's UK office doesn't seem to want to deal with it at all. David Wilson, the SCEE PR manager, says "we generally view E3 as a 'US' show. That isn't to devalue or deny its significance to us, it's just that because it's based in the US: SCEA 'own' it." Good mentality to take.

It's not too doubtful that all these guys will be back for next year's show. However, we'll definitely miss the fun and excitement of their press conference wars if it doesn't happen again. They're one of our favourite parts of E3!

What stupid moron talks to the UK divisions about a USA show. While all division are apart of the same company its stupid to ask the UK division about what american division is doing.

Its like asking Sony Pictures how GTA:VCS is comming along.

True.

But uh, that Sony rep has a point there. E3 is just a US show, there's still TGS and a handful of other great shows in Japan, the UK etc.

» Oh...

There may be other shows too, but I'll really miss the legendary press conferences of good ol' E3.

Let's hope they won't remove them.

As for the new name, my opinion is that they named it like that, because it will not only involve games, but movies and other forms of "media".

» #3 is right

anyway, I think they were just saying that to keep everything calm, but Im sure that all 3 companies are as upset as we are.

anyway ESA is @ss enough to cut E3 into a small festival the size of a school, hopefully they wont be @ss enough to get rid of the pre-E3 press conferences, because those really are the best!

What the hell? We don't give a crap what the U.K. offices think! E3 is a U.S. show, and the U.S. offices are all that matter anyways.

Which stupid moron asks a UK company about the US show? A stupid moron who works for a UK site.

Dumbass.

Most of the offices (like Nintendo) have direct contact with each other anyway.

It still does not matter. I work for a game company. If you asked the uk company what the canada company was doing they would shake their head and say to ask the canada office.

Hell when you publish a game for Europe, NA knows nada about it since SCEE (Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe)works on european releases not SCEA (Sony Computer Entertainment of America).

UK mag or not. You dont ask a UK division what the american division thinks.

» I agree with #3 and #4

Sony are the best and SCEE in the UK are right to show a lack of interest in a wholly American show. I think E3 shrunk down will be much better as only the main players that I'm interested in will take part i.e. Nintendo and Sony, and Microsoft just suck big time.

I agree with the date of the event...but downsizing it to 5k people...thats just stupid..... bussiniess in that area will suffer greatly...there used to be 60k people attending...Hotels and resturants in the area will not like this...lol
