March was the month of the handheld game over in Japan. The latest figures from Enterbrain shows that the top ten games for the period covering February 28 through March 28 were overwhelmingly composed of games either for the Sony PlayStation Portable or the Nintendo 3DS. Only two non-handheld releases managed to crack the top ten, both of which were for the Sony PlayStation 3.

The Square Enix fighter Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy took the top spot, with DYnasty Warriors 7 for PS3 close behind. Third place went to Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, one of the 3DS' launch titles in Japan and the best-selling 3DS game at launch. The only other non-handheld game aside from DW7 was Way of the Samurai 4 which took fourth place. Another Final Fantasy title, Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection, rounded out the top five.

Here's the complete top ten list from Enterbrain:

  • [PSP] Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy (Square Enix, 3/3): 414,127
  • [PS3] Dynasty Warriors 7 (Tecmo Koei, 3/10): 375,372
  • [3DS] Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (Level-5, 2/26): 128,178 (245,767)
  • [PS3] Way of the Samurai 4 (Spike, 3/3): 112,719
  • [PSP] Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection (Square Enix, 3/24): 101,513

I wish Sega released Infinity instead of vanilla PSP2, just like what D3 did with God Eater Burst.
