Hackers embed trojan into Atlus.com, virus may have spread to visitors |
Ó
The dark side of hacking rears its ugly head once more, spreading
malware all over internet. This time, Atlus.com falls victim to a
"third-party entity" which apparently managed to hack into the site,
embedding the dreaded trojan virus into the system. What's worse is
that the virus may have spread to the visitors of the said site, giving
gamers from all over the world a very, very bad day.Atlus estimates that visitors between 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. PST yesterday may have gotten infected. There aren't any confirmed infections just yet, but naturally, they won't be able to go report the infection if their computers are all screwed up, right? "The faith and trust of our fans is of the utmost importance to us, a responsibility we don't take lightly," Atlus said in a statement.
Atlus.com is still down and they're still trying to sort the problem out and who may have caused it. Fear not, you can still get Atlus news and updates right here on QJ!

114,000 viruses? Not on a Mac! Thats what you all get for using Winblows XD! Freakin Microcrap.
Gotta love the mandatory Mac elitist post.
Why atlus? They're one of the truest gaming companies around. They should have put a virus on the site that makes all those PONIEZ games for the DS.
I'll Make a huge virus specificly for Mac.
(Kiddin..Kiddin) lol
Those elitist windows users, with all their games and software.. Who cares what their market share is! I LOVE my extremely expensive crippled fisher price computer that has a calculator with rounded edges! Nothing else compares.
The only reason I don't have a mac is because of it's lack of compatibility
A virus.... hmmm..
I have a really strong anti virus so I guess I'm good.
The only reason I don't have a mac is because of it's lack of compatibility

that made me laugh hahaha!
Yea, I have a $500 PS3 hooked up to an HDTV and surely I'd still want to play games on a PC with a 15" monitor and a clunky keyboard...
The only reason I don't have a mac is because their insanely overpriced!
Don't be a jackass, its common sense windows is a huge platform compared to mac so probably most jerk hackers would target the bigger platform.
Because you totally can't hook your PC up to your HDTV and use a controller (including the PS3 controller) with your computer. :-/ (Sarcasm)
Sounds like /b/'s... /b/ored
theres an ad for trend micro on this page :) [i have it, it kicks so much ass its TOTALLY funny]
yeah one of the few advantages of macs is that they tend to not get viruses as easy as PC's. However, PC's may get viruses, but we also get a huge amount of 3rd party software and games that totally offsets the whole virus BS..
..is horrible. ESET's NOD32 is the best protection coupled with the least cpu-intensive heuristics and the highest known and unknown virus identification and removal. That's NOD32. It's also built from the ground up to not slow down your gaming, so be sure to get it and put it on your Crysis playing machine!
[/advert]
nod32 is not very good
mcaffee with bt is better
pluss it has an option to scan and if no virus/trojan it shuts down your comp for you
you probbly the only person that loves macafee.
So far NOD32 is the BEST!
I have that as well, by far the best antivirus program available. Stuff like Trend Micro, Norton and McAfee make me pull my hair out with how much they slow your entire PC down, and are slow at scanning to boot. I uninstall that garbage as soon as I boot up a new PC if it's included with it
Check out independent antivirus tests conducted by unbiased (read: not bribed) websites, and McAfee usually ends up in last place, as well as Norton. Slow scanning speed, low detection rates, (McAfee usually detects about 60% of the viruses the testers throw at it), and general PC sluggishness with McAfee in al the tests. And I can attest yo at least some of that, since I used McAfee for years because I got it free from Comcast. One of the worst programs I ever used
While NOD32 and AVG are usually at the top of the list. NOD usually detects at least 95% of the stuff thrown at it
AVG near the top? LMAO
* avast! - 24 successes and 20 failures (55% success)
* ca etrust - 32 successes and 13 failures (71% success)
* doctor web - 25 successes and 22 failures (53% success)
* eset nod32 - 47 successes and 3 failures (94% success)
* f-secure - 27 successes and 13 failures (68% success)
* grisoft (avg) - 19 successes and 22 failures (46% success)
* kaspersky - 40 successes and 15 failures (73% success)
* mcafee - 34 successes and 19 failures (64% success)
* norman - 38 successes and 14 failures (73% success)
* sophos - 39 successes and 14 failures (74% success)
* symantec (norton) - 41 successes and 6 failures (87% success)
McAfee 64% success, NOD 94. NOD wins
I might have been thinking of something else, probably Kaspersky. That always scores pretty high
And that's only one test, and it's only a success rate test, not a general ranking from best to worst. Norton is usually on the bottom of those because of how slow and intrusive it is. Hate that one too
Mac and PC fail...ubuntu ftw!
Don't give them credit for something they could never do...
/b/ is just a bunch of immature idiots that spend most of their time looking at porn.
Not surprising. This was probably some sort of long-overdue revenge from a gamer who bought Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth.
One question to some of yous. How do you find the time to find so much info on something as benign as Anti-virus program efficiency? Just subscribe to porn, don't hide em from your Moms and you'll probably avoid most viruses. Oh and Limewire, don't use that!
Just got my laptop back from Best Buy, they used the Toshiba disc to restore it, comes with Norton. The entire PC is sooooo slow. 5 minute restarts FTW
Programs and Features -> Norton -> Uninstall -> REMOVE ALL
Good bye Norton
Anyone reading this, please do yourself a favor and look into NOD. You'll be glad you did
Yuh, Ubuntu for the win!
Windows would get targeted, it IS a huge platform, Mac isn't "betteR" just because it "doesn't get viruses", a virus is just a small program that takes certain actions, those actions lead to things like deleting data etc, Mac can get the same sort of program, however they are less common because the amount of Mac users compared to Windows is tiny, even tinier is the amount of Linux users, however Linux can also get said "Viruses", however it is less common.
But all in all, Microsoft sucks, I hate them, they've never produced anything that I've liked.
i have tried Mcafee and Norton and recently i tried NOD32, NOD is the best of them by very very far
so what exactly did the hackers get from all this???
the satisfaction of bringing a website down? (is that even fun?)
did they get money to hack a website?
or did they get a trophy saying, "This No-Life Award is Presented to (insert name here), for Hacking a Website." and maybe a sticker saying "NERD" or "NO-LIFE" or "I LIVE IN MY PARENTS BASEMENT."
so what exactly did they gain from all this?
P.S. i might have to cut my internet connection for the next few months. XD
Seriously, how could anyone use Linsux? It's the worst operating system ever made, far far worse than Windows. Mac is the best, simple as that.
I feel sorry that you do not know how to operate a Linux OS.
Linux is not for the newbies. Despite what Ubuntu will say, it's STILL not completely newbie-friendly.
You're still not protected from all of them....
Just out of curiosity, what Anti-Virus program is it?
That's genius!
"Anyone reading this, please do yourself a favor and look into NOD. You'll be glad you did."
100% agree with you. It's just a brilliant program. Granted it requires some (relatively low) IQ to set up and operate the software to a specific need but it's great!
I have used Norton, McAfee, AVG, and Kaspersky. Norton just plain sucked. McAfee was not bad at finding some viruses but it still sucked since it slowed my computer. AVG, installed it..deleted it on the same day (so I didn't quite really experience it to say much). Kaspersky (Gaming Edition) It was perfect for playing games. It has the ability to be completely closed like a normal software with no hassle (except the hassle from windows warning you that your protection status is at high risk.) I didn't quite feel safe since it didn't pick up some of the files that are obviously packing a trojan. NOD32 is fast and simple.(it does slow down a bit but only when scanning a new large file that may contain a threat). It picked up nearly everything including all the "tools."
I'm not a newbie, I just don think an operating system should be that time-consuming for regular use. Typing on a command line to install a program verses dragging it into a folder? You don't have to be a newbie to want ease of use.
Anyone who hates on linux just doesn't have the brain capacity to understand it.
You've been s***** fed .exe files your whole life, you can't even comprehend actually doing things differently.
Using Linux is like handwriting a 5 page essay, using a Mac is like typing a 5 page essay, using Windows is like typing a 5 page essay and then the computer crashes and you loose all your work.
"Typing on a command line to install a program"?
This is why you have package managers like Synaptic, APT, YUM, Zypper...
Makes life much more enjoyable.
I'd say a typical case of rtfm.
Obviously to the people that are trash-talking, you haven't used Linux lately. I installed Ubuntu and most of my hardware just worked out of the box, compared to Windows where I had to install a million drivers to even get basic functionality. Also you don't have to install programs on a command line anymore in Linux, that's what Synaptic package manager is for... LOADS easier to install programs than Windoze. Not to mention, you know that everything you're installing isn't going to F up your system and you can update all of your installed software simultaneously with one click. And the #1 reason why Linux is better than windows... its not susceptible to viruses like Windows is... running Windows is like operating in root 24/7. But lets not fix that, no, lets just pile a ton of bloated ass code on top of what we already have instead of rewriting it... The only thing that windows is still good for is gaming, but that's due to the popularity of windows that games get coded for it, not due to anything else. Windows to Linux is like QWERTY to Dvorak. The latter is better, but is not adopted because the former is more prevalent and people don't want to change.
