The Rockstar title also took the award for Best Action/Adventure Game. Michael Hollick, who voiced GTA4 protagonist Nico Bellic, also snagged the Best Performance by a Human Male award.

im playing gta4 now!
GTAIV was the GOTY? I disagree with that choice. It was a good gamer, but a big disappointment.
So that's what Rockstar did with that $50 million that Microsoft paid for mediocre DLC.
Americans really have no taste. what's so great about GTA anyways? from Mafia, to mexican/blacks, to a southern drug company, and now to a russian mafia. wtf are those? so gangsta it's so stupid. putting in alot of cussing, drugs, and sex doesn't make it a great game. period. gta4 is like gta3 with upgraded graphics. we all know mgs4 should have won. it's a shame that hideo kojima was there and he didn't even get to go up the stage.

and you're telling me japan buys GTA4? are you serious? i just don't buy these types of games catered to whoever likes them. the games above didn't need sex, drugs, or cussing to be awesome. and yet GTA tries so hard to be gangsta with all the guns and stupid accents. that's why US devs can hardly crack the Japanese sales, cause playing games like these is like watching Hell's Kitchen. tries so hard to be 'in da hood' or whatever they want it to be. action with the homies or something. so gangsta it's so stupid. i liked the original GTA 3. it was a nice upgrade from the bird's eye view. but recycling the same game over and over isn't worth Game of the Year.
Your first hurdle is that the game was made by Rockstar North, without you looking too much like a fool I'll let you google them and you can find out where they're located yourself.
But heres a clue: Rockstar Leeds, the people who make the PSP games, are based in Leeds.
Oh and I don't like GTAIV much. Everything else in the series I do like but not IV. It was awkwardly too much of a departure from the originals, yet it wasn't different enough. The same old story structure, same old events but with a god awful physics engine powering everything and them horrible looking, Doom 3 style shadows (it's either in a shadow or not, nothing inbetween and the shadow smoothing was fugly).
gta4 should of been as freedom orientated as san andreas IMO

This list is all skewed, come on your telling me mgs4 beat out farcry 2 in graphics. That BS, FC2 whas pretty much photo realistic. MGS 4 just looked nice, but its solid graphics, and optimization were nothing compared to FC2. Mgs 4 was the better game though. If we throw pc gaming, FC2 def won in graphics, and Crysis Warhead also killed, but its optimization was nowhere near fc2.
Also, in my personal opinion, Gta4 was the best Gta I've played. Quality over quantity, get that in your mind people.
Yeah San Andreas had a lot of *****, but how much did you actually enjoy doing. Come on San Andreas was so boring in some of its areas I can't believe you prefer it over San Andreas.

im not a fanboy, check pics if you like, this is the computer you are on so its not hard. gta 4 sucked cause they cut a lot of content out of the game, call of duty is a fps where they cut a lot of content also and you can tell by the flipping campaign which you can finish in 5 hours but the online is good. gta 4 is not relying on its multiplayer side, its relying on its story side and the graphics were horrible and the gameplay was horrible also and the reason is cause of disc space.
my point is, gta 4 is good to some people but gta san andreas was a way longer game and a better game than the newest gta game, why is that, it is cause of disc space and content. in gta, you pick up your cousin and the game is over. in san andreas it was a much longer game. san andreas was done on a dual layer dvd9 disc which was fine for last gen games cause they used less space on a disc.
killzone 2 is the best looking game, those are facts, not my opinion and if you think im wrong, you are a fanboy.

Okay the first problem with what you said was, "Japan, the homeland of video games", Japan is not the homeland of video games. The home console was started here in the US and released by Atari (Atari 2600). Japan BECAME a video game hub, that much is true, but it is not the homeland.

If you didn't know that then you need to read more adding more crap to the game may slow it down even more . This game runs at about 12fps.

I for one feel very disappointed by the results starting with the GOTY which should have been MGS4 (by a slight margin over Fallout 3 the 360 version, and Littlebigplanet ). Best shooter should have been COD4. Best graphics either crysis 2, far cry 2, or flight simulator X (its really relative). Best handheld game FF for the DS. Best PC game: Comand and Conquer 3. Really dissappointed...

gta 4 was lacking content because of the dvd9 discs that xbox uses. the game had terrible graphics and terrible frame rate and glitches because of the dvd9 disc constraint. ps3 is the fture and the future is ps3.

a lot of devs knew about blu ray and the cell chip broadband that would be in the ps3 before 2005. again, just like forza 2 sucking and being inferior to gt 5, just like gears of war 2 being inferior to uncharted and killzone 2 in the graphics department because of disc constraints. dvd9 isnt enough for gears 2 and thats why it was compressed . you idiots will never understand.

No ones hating on anything, I think its just people notice that there was better $hit that should have won. Game of the Year shouldn't be about sales or popularity alone, it should really be about the best game. Now I think Gears 2 or Mgs4 should have won. Graphics wise GTAIV is beat by lots of games, Story wise GTAIV is beat by lots of games, gameplay wise GTAIV is beat by lots of games. Two of those games being Mgs4 and Gears 2. People really do notice that GTAIV isn't good enough to reach Mgs4 or Gears 2 quality, thats the only reason why their complaining.
Just to note I helped out GTAIV sales because I bought the game as well. Do I think that its better than the other games that I mentioned? Not even close. GTAIV is just a universal game that lots of people buy because it has the Gran theft auto name and its free roam.

compressed data isnt as good as uncompressed data. compressed sound isnt as good as uncompressed sound. now that ive said that, answer this for me, why is uncharted drakes fortune a more beautiful game than gears of war 2 that came out recently? uncharted was released in 2007 and both games are exclusives titles that should show what the systems are capable of.why does gears 2 have so many glitches and slowdowns in the campaign? why can the ps3 do 60fps in 1080p natively?but the xbox 360 cant. why is the xbox using hdmi 1.2 and theps3 uses the newer hdmi 1.3 which is better? when will xbox 360 have a game that will get game of the year again?cause we all know its going to be killzone 2,heavy rain, god of war 3 or some ps3 exclusive.

mgs4 was DEFINITELY best graphics of the year.
and gta4 gets SOOO repetitive! I couldn't even make it through the half-way mark! Its the samet hing over and over again. Get call, drive car, go kill.
Its graphics were revolutionary! Far Cry 2 graphics were good, but it wasn't as varied and rich as MGS4. It was the same thing again and again in FC2--brown rocks, plains, trees. For all we know they could've repeated huge sections of the map and the player would never know...
If GTA IV was not released for the xbox 360 and only a PS3 exclusive, I bet GTA IV will not be GOTY. If a game were to be released multi-platform, people are gonna buy the 360 version rather than ps3's.
I wasn't hyped up for the game, actually. I was busy paying attention to other games. If I wasn't hyped up and I was disappointed, you know how big it was.

I disliked every GTA game up to GTA4 because of all the flaws within them.
GTA4 on the other hand fixed every flaw within every other game. The shooting system is great, regardless of whether you're using lock-on or not. The best is that if you're using lock-on, the enemy still has to be in your line of sight, so it's not like you can just lock-on and then it'll lock-on to the nearest enemy or a random person running 5 miles down the street "BEHIND" you.
GTA4 also had a really amazing driving system, as the system turned VERY realistic and made driving through the cities different than games like the original GTA games, the Driver games, etc. It also put most racing games to shame since it not only has realistic driving, but also car damage is factored in along with some nice checkpoint races.
The storyline and missions were also really good. If people want to attempt to say it's the same thing, yet praise Metal Gear Solid 4, then how about we just list how Metal Gear Solid 4 is the exact same as every game in the series aside from the fact that they upgraded the shooting system as well(MGS4 easily has the best shooting system.) Hey look. Let's go through MGS4 which is just like going through MGS1, 2, 3, and Portable Ops. Game of the year!!.
How about the fact that some other people said that GTA4 is repetitive you just drive places then shoot people, drive other places, shoot people, etc. Oh wait a minute. Let's look at MGS4. Infact, let's look at every MGS released. Go to the next area, wait for a minute in each intersection so you have enough time to run across or crawl across without being seen etc.

I loved GTA IV to death so I agree it deserves a nomination, though Fallout 3 and MGS4 are far superior in my opinion. Hell, I would've agreed with LittleBigPlanet 'cause it's one of the few games without a number in the title...

In all seriousness though, if you could get anything out of that last paragraph it does make sense. The 360 and PS3 are almost equal in processing capability. It's just the way each system works. I find the perfect example for explaining this to a n00b is the Fibonacci algorithm. There are 2 basic ways to implement an algorithm to find a number in the Fibonacci sequence, recursively and iteratively. In this case, the recursive function, when called, will end up doing the same calculations over and over again and eventually will give an answer. While, the iterative function will give the answer in the time it takes to go through each needed calculation since it only goes through each one exactly once which saves on time and memory. Anyway, what I'm trying to get across here is the fact there is no "best" anything. In most cases, recursive functions are MUCH faster than iteration, though in this case, the iterative function is exponentially faster.
Now, when you take that over to the PS3/360 "war" replace the fibonacci problem with online functionality, the recursive function with PS3, and the iterative function with 360. Online functionality on the 360 has worked from the beginning extremely efficiently while it's not as great on the processing side(however small the difference really is). And Sony has taken a long time to get their online functions fully established (if you can call Home really established yet) and it's still having problems with the stuff they overlooked. For example, after resetting the default system settings by holding the power button for 7 seconds(that is just the video/audio settings, not the HDD), my trophies were permanently disabled and Burnout Paradise is completely unplayable on my account. I can make a new account, though the original gamesave isn't shareable. Since the gamerscore has been a part of Xbox Live since the launch of the 360, I'll never expect anything like that to happen on my Gamertag.

there is no excuse why gta4 could of had as much freedom as gta3:san andreas
now the reason it was an ordinary dvd dl was because of the xbox 360, the pc version is over 12 gig and they ported it from the 360 to ps3, hench the origional onnline problems, its good for the multiplayer but after awhile even that gets boring, call of duty waw should of done better, mgs deffinetely won graphics because the emense amount of space they had to work with, but it doesnt deserve game of the year as good as it is, ive seen films shorter than the ending movie, and thats just the ending movie, they went way over the top with cut scenes although the references to earlier games were quite commical but the best graphics was purely for the cut scenes, left 4 dead is way over hyped, zombie mode on cod is far better and you can battle each other, not to mention you get to royally screw berlin in it, no offence but 80,000 germans to 2.5 million russians, thats just quality

and ive noticed lots of issues with graphics of fc2, if they game come fully patched before it was released then maybe it would be different but it still hasn't been updated, you get floor tiling, cliff tiling and you get graphic glitches in certain areas on the hugh map which i must give it credit for that, lots to do but repetitive going back and forward guard post after guard post, got so bored i got myself stuck between a tree and the inside of a cliff
