Gran Turismo Mobile - Image 1

Here's some bad news for those of us who want to take the next-gen driving experience of Gran Turismo on the go: it seems that Gran Turismo Mobile, Polyphony Digital's offering to the Sony PlayStation Portable, may be facing cancellation. Ouch.

Say it isn't so, Sony! Unfortunately, it seems that despite the update we received from series creator Kazunori Yamauchi himself, the portable title itself may be getting a whack from the vaporware stick - as GameStop has just announced that all pre-orders of the game has been cancelled. Why? Because the game has been cancelled. Or so they say.

There's no official word out yet from Sony or Polyphony Digital, so we're filing this under rumors for now. Until we do get wind of that fateful announcement, however, let's hope that Sony hasn't gone and killed what could be one of the PSP's hottest titles ever.

So basically, the REASON many people originally bought their PSPs was just a fake marketing ploy...well, whatever...glad I didn't base my decision to buy a PSP on that game. Woulda Been nice though, but GT 1 & 2 will have to do.

i highly doubt someone would buy a PSP just for gt4. there are other much better games.

I read an article before this saying that the team shelved it to work on GT5.... but claimed they would be working on it after GT5 was complete... meaning it's still a ways off for a release date but that it was still coming. so cuz gamestop removes the pre-orders that confirmation its cancelled?!

the original ads for the psp before it was released were for GT mobile, and brought much hype before there were any really good games for the PSP

his was cancelled long ago! Considering they used promo shots of GT Mobile to promote the PSP when it came out, the last I seen of this was in 2005! If they still are working on it then they must of restarted the whole project after every major PSP update to make sure it includes all features!

PD has had working builds of GT Mobile even back around the time that Tourist Trophy was released. Development of the PSP title got put on hold after GT4 came out (those promo shots showing the Castrol Supra were actually GT4 images, not GT Mobile) and they started work on TT right away. They putzed with it a little after that before jumping into GT: HD. GT Mobile has basically been "filler work" in between other projects. I don't think it's been outright cancelled, but it definitely feels like it's been getting the Duke Nukem Forever treatment. I have a sneaking suspicion that they may save this title as a last hurrah of sorts as the PSP begins to sing its swan-song, similar to what God of War 2 was for the PS2.

I originally bought mine just for GTA - LCS, but then after that found many other reasons why it was a great choice.

i originally bought my psp exclusively for GT Mobile, Ridge Racer and with hopes of seeing a Resident Evil game or two. So far 1 of 3 is not good, but at least I can play the old ps1 games until that happens. GT & GT2 work flawlessly, and so do RE (DC), RE2, and RE3. My hopes are still up. It was only just last month that they announced that they would be continuing work on GT Mobile after GT5 was complete, so this really makes no sense. This is probably just rumor, or at least its just wishful thinking that it is a rumor. I would really hate to see this go the way of vaporware.

I was waiting for this game to come out, but even so it's not really that big of a disappointment. The only thing even worth waiting on the game is the infrastucture compatibility which in any other case, you could just as easily play the PS2 version of GT4.

The PSP has so many other good games regardless if alot of people know what the games are or not. If you import then there's even more. Gundam Battle Tactics, Royale, and Chronicle anyone?

What's more is that most of you, if not all of you, who come to this site have a homebrew compatible PSP, so even with all the great games the system there are the many homebrew programs and ability to play pretty much any older game 16 bit or lower, with some 32 bit systems and PSX games you either rip yourself or download from the PS Network.

So yeah. Like I said. I was waiting for the game, but I'm happy with my PSP, so this really isn't a disappointment.

AS A2theC said some people bought it just for this game; Well I was one of them now don't get me wrong there are many other titles that are great for the PSP but to see a new Gran Turismo in the power of a handheld would just be amazing IMO. I really hope that this stays a rumor if not maybe we can get enough people to patition the game to keep it going!
