gt4For some reason, Gran Turismo just ain't revving up as it should for the PSP. According to Famitsu, the game developers Polyphony Digital have confirmed that the game's release date is still indefinite as of press time.  Originally, the plan was to release it in Japan during Spring 2005.

This latest delay, which is not exactly new, will not only disappoint awaiting fans, but will also probably affect the PSP. This update is considered to be the latest in a number of blows coming PSP's way, following several movie companies' decision to stop producing UMD Videos for the handheld.

Nonetheless, most fans don't think the delay signifies any deep trouble for both the game and the PSP. After all, other GT titles also took a while before being officially released. Here's hoping the game is worth the wait.

» It's never coming out, but

UMD movies suck anyway, so there being less of them is not hurting the PSP: it's helping the UMD movie market. After like 2 months, the UMD movie market was already flooded with way too much content, and way to much crap PSP users don't care about. Now there is going to be more and easier to find anime and other stuff otakus would like.

» UMD movies

Agreed, the policy some studios are now following of only releasing certain movies on UMD actually improves the overall quality of available titles. The movies most people want on UMD are cult movies that they might want to watch another day. Not to mention prices are also dropping to something comparable to what you'd pay for a DVD nowadays. Which is a good thing.

So, I would also say, no, UMD is not dead. Not just yet.

Toca 3 has a realist crash model. Gt doesnt.

Allthough toca 3 is pretty realistic, driving is more fun in GT.

Probably they delayed it, waiting for the new fw, so that they can sign it with a new key.

» Conspiracy overkill, but....

who knows? Maybe Sony got it's hands in this. Delaying GT4 for a while, so another 594 racing games can be released and licensed and sold first.

I mean: GT4 would pretty much be the DEATH to all other racing games (maybe except for the very popular NSF titles), and 50% of all PSP games ARE racing games.

But actually I thought GT4 for PSP would be dead already. So I am at least glad to hear ANY news of it. Well, once the PSX emulator gets released, I can play GT1 and GT2 on my PSP, haha.

» Umm...

I think GT HD is the cause of the delay. Since before E3, Sony has asked Polyphony to work on it so that they can boost Sony's image. And now that the TGS is coming up, I amagine they are still busy polishing it up. I expect them to resume the work on GT Mobile after the TGS so a 23rd of February, 2007 release date is theoretically possible. Knowing Polyphony though, I wouldn't be surprised if they pushed it back to April or even May. This way it could help boost PSP sales for the post Holiday slump.

*sits in corner and cries*

Why oh why Sony haven't you tried to get this out sooner? If it's not brought out soon enough, the PSP may die, if it isn't already unfortunatley (apart from homebrew, which is all I play )

Seriously, I'd buy this within a heartbeat if I could.

» PS3 took priority

They admitted as much that they had to choose between getting a PS3 version out there close to PS3 launch, and getting a PSP version out there, and the PS3 version won.

However, Toca 3 is a pretty good alternative, and it's not like there are any driving games on the DS that are going to rival anything available on the PSP, which has plenty of racing games coming.

Besides, the PSP is getting a Metal Gear Solid game, and that game is a lot more suited to the PSP's controls anyway. (And supports the GPS apparently, which is just crazy ... )

And MGS is one of the most popular games ever. As was GTA, which is also getting a new version with the old one just becoming a budget title. So the PSP gets some very high profile games, and is doing just fine.

I also think that now that UMD prices have been slashed considerably, suddenly UMD sales will do much better, and probably movie studios will get the hint. But at the same time we are also getting the downloadable alternative soon.

And then there's the PSOne emulator that's coming, and the Camera, GPS, etc. I don't think that the PSP is in a lot of trouble really.

Certainly it is getting a lot of Tekken love from me. I'm curious to how the Tekken bundle will do in Europe when it's released in September.

GT6 will be released by the time "GT4 Mobile" is released on the PSP

"is this gonna b like duke nukem 4ever ? :P" ... Yep, I believe so What I dont understand is that they have most the game already made, right? They just need to port it successfully and theyve got another cashin!

Anyways, Id rather play this game on the PS2 on a bigass screen anyways

» Screw This.........haha(Vice City)

Polyphony Digital can take their Gran Turismo and shove it up their ass. I got sick of their games after GT2, because the newer ones are only rehashes with better graphics. All they do is dely and lie about their titles. And still no visible damage? Blow me Polyphony... i will buy a copy of gt4 mobile when it gets released in 2009 and take a big fat $hit on it.

Since GT is supposed to be a driving simulator, and consists of real cars in a pretty accurate simulation of their real life counterparts, the jump to PS2 with GT3 brought about much betetr driving mechanics.

The producer of GT is automobile obsessed, and has stated that he would include damage when there is enough power to simulate the effects of damage in a realistic manner.

mwahahahhaahha! By the time this fuc{ing game comes out, most of the cars will be outdated

by xExpireD_MilKx - 2006-08-31 10:33
» to #20 also

There is no vehicle damage, cause it would cost more for the developers to get the cars licensed..... AUTOMOBILE manufacturers don't want their cars shown all cruddy and damaged. This is part of the reason why games like burnout don't have licensed cars - vehicle damage licenses.

I mean... if you made something... would you want it being shown all banged up and damaged?

Didn't think so...

Anyways.. i think GT4 Mobile will eventually come out. They know how the U.S. craves for GT.... and i guess they want the best for a release like this. I don't think they can get PS2 quality graphics on a friggin 222mhz clock... so until we get that new battery and games are starting to clock the game at 333 mhz...

We're far from receiving a GT4.

Just my 2 cents,

» firmware 3.xx or more lol

is just a security matter , since every body download psp game for free and play them off theyr memory stick , sony are tired to loose game companie.

GT4 was on the way to be releaced with firmware 2.7 or 2.8 , but since DEVH**k can emulate the firmware and you all still dont need to update your 1.5 sony try to find a way to make theyr new firmware incompatible with devh**k or new security stuff.

i guess since firmware 2.5 ,if their wasnt devh**k , GT4 was out on psp worldwild

think about it ,

I can't understand what you are trying to say. Please learn how to type properly. And Sony shouldn't worry about devhook, because that will make more people by the umd instead of downloading the iso.

» well done - great PSP marketing ploy...

well done - great PSP marketing ploy... this has to be one of SONYs greatest marketing ploys, tell everyone GT4 is comming to PSP... prepare PACKaging and UMD artwork for PSP release, do some fake artwork and videos, near PSP release... then NEVER release... this product will never arrive on the current version of the PSP... and the current PSP has a year left in its lifespan 2 at most... remember you heard it here first!
