Grab some friends: MGS Portable Ops multiplayer demo |
Ó
Thanks to a tip from Darknight88, we found out that there was another way for people to get their Solid Snake shenanigans on the PlayStation Portable (PSP).
He tipped us off to a free multiplayer demo of Konami's Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, which people can download and play. The game works on ad-hoc multiplayer only, so it'll be handy for you to have a couple of friends with PSPs who want to go try out the game with you. Otherwise, you're out of luck.
More importantly, the link that Darknight88 led us to has two different versions of the game: one for firmware 3.00 users, and another for 3.40 users. As always, your mileage will probably vary depending on which file you grab and whether or not you're using custom firmware, so leave a comment below if the game works for you. Enjoy!

i waited till 3 am to get first post, thus i am cool.
What reason would there be to offer this demo in two flavours? Seeing as how 3.03oe-c is still a common choice for homebrewers, me thinks still has a soft spot in thier heart for us homebrewers. Awww...
i wonder what the reason was for this... anyone think of any other reason sony might do this?
It wasn't Sony who supplied people with two versions of the demo, it originally would only run on 3.40, but someone obviously patched (hex-edited) the EBOOT.
see subject^
else get it to work on OE's? It just dies when I put them in any GAME folder.
is doesent work on my 3.03 oec psp weird!!!!
Ad Hoc? AD HOC?!?! What's the point with a multiplayer demo for ad hoc only, when the UMD has gamesharing included? This was the most stupid idea I've heard for a long time. Though, for peeps without the UMD it is good, I guess. Still stupid not to include infrastructure when there is infrastructure in the real UMD.
has qj.net seen the full auo 2 batel lines demo it is on http://www.pspdemos.de.vu hope it gets uploaded on dl.qj.net soon.
LOSER!
This demo doesn't seem to work on firmware 3.03, someones hex edited the damn thing wrongly.
The method with hex editing the EBOOT doesn't work anymore. Sony seems to use a new algorithm which checks the Firmware twice. One time normally which can be edited and another time encrypted. The method still works for other 3.40 demos like Full Auto or the new LocoRoco.
I don't think theres actually 2 "flavors", i think someone has hex edited the 3.40 one to 3.00. The demo was up online for a short while before it was pulled on the official sites, the person who downloaded it must have changed it and reposted somewhere with the changed hex value. Because it was so hard to get hold of initially, people must have quickly taken it to be an original one. I have had a look at both versions, and there doesnt seem to be any changes other than the fw value, and it still doesnt work on any firmware lower than 3.40.
