PSP's extended life battery gets discontinued - Image 1Sad news folks. Sony has announced that the PSP's extended life battery kit has been discontinued.

Sony Computer Entertainment's Al de Leon recently confirmed that they were discontinuing the the battery kit. "Yes, we are discontinuing this product as we look for other opportunities to service the consumer," notes de Leon. Hopefully, we'll see something similar to the extended life battery pack in the future.

For those who haven't heard of it, the extended life battery kit is a battery pack that potentially offers up to 12 hours of PSP time in one charge. It's a great peripheral to have, and we're kinda sad to see it go.

It's just the KIT that's being discontinued, not the actual battery itself?

Either way this is a stupid, sucky move, but coming from Sony it's pretty par for the course.

I thought the extended battery was a really good idea. I got one and I've been loving it.

Anyways, maybe they'll come out with a new *extended* battery which'll last even longer. You never know.

wow lol, that kinda sucks.

But here's something weird:

My PSP fat battery that came with the psp fat, goes for 12 hours on my slim.

How many hours would this work for on the slim? any thoughts?

Everyone that was hacking a slim either used these or a spare slim battery ffor pandora. It's aa shame to see these go, especially since they open the door for CFW.

Nice of them to discontinue them just in time for what is likely close to the expected lifespan of most fat batteries out there, considering the extended battery is pretty much the only one on shelf these days unless you want a knockoff

Again with one of your smug***** comments. I you can't get CFW on a PSP without a pandoras batery. That's well known and I made that clear in my post. STFU and Stop picking fights.

he was probably refering to hard modding the battery rather than soft modding it.

Look's like the PSP 3000 is going to be released soon ;)

Sony discontinuing this peripheral at this time is telling me that there shifting focus on a long life battery of the next iteration of the beloved PSP :P

It wouldn't make sense to discontinue something like this with relatively low production costs unless they were switching to a newer model to be shipped, and since their not doing that, they may very well be working on the new battery for the PSP 3000! :P

Please understand that this is all speculation so don't take it as fact, but if it sounds plausible to you, by all means, look in to it :D

Yeah, my original battery from my PSP 1000 just died (won't retain a charge) and I started looking for a replacement, but now it seems to be pretty difficult to find one.

are you *****ing stupid? its the battery that the phat PSPs use... are you honestly suggesting that they're discontinuing the phat battery? Its just the kit you moron... you can still buy the battery and a 3rd party battery cover.
