After about two hours of speaking in GDC, Hideo Kojima ended his keynote with an interesting slide. Yet again, he's teasing this next installment in the Metal Gear franchise. Note from the picture below that the "S" is included after the "MG". Also, I'm pretty sure you can clearly see that dude with the sword at the top corner. Is that Raiden or just some random guy with a sword?

Kojima Next MGS - Image 1

Of course, this last slide of Kojima's keynote could be nothing more than just that - a slide. Read into the pic as much as you want (Metal Gear Echochrome, anyone?), but whatever happens, we won't arrive at anything concrete without official word from Kojima or Konami.

This slide was shown after a 2-hour run of talking about years and years of development that went into the entire Metal Gear series. From the very first game, all the way up to MGS4, including some portable spinoffs and what not along the way.

Kojima thinks that it's going to be crucial for them to overcome lots of developmental obstacles and merge the good points of Japanese and western dev practices. If these were in their proper place, it'd allow them to move into their next mission - the "next MGS." To quote him:

And in the future of Kojima Productions and how we design games, I want to add both the western and Japanese way of hardware advancement and software advancement, and then add the game design ladder [all the way up into the new mission:] The next MGS.

» Who knows, maybe they'll make them..

Easier to follow. I kinda compare the MGS series to Lost in my head.

Tons of questions and not many answers. I loved the games but they need to make them a little more accessible and better to follow the story.

No twenty year long sagas Kojima!

» unlike lost

every question was answered, you probably fell asleep during the hour long end cut scene that explained it all, besides that I loved the rest of the game, and the whole series

» HUH MGS equal to MSG in your head?

» Don't mind melty3218

All of his comments were blinded towards his undying love for 360

» I don't know about you guys...

That "Raiden"looks a bit tad different from the actual Raiden. His posture and the way his sword is drawn are not the same. Plus the suit seems different. He also looks a bit like a soldier, maybe he's carrying guns asidefrom the noticeable sword. What new character could use Sword, and Guns, and take a setting after MGS4??? I HAVE A FEELING WE COULD BE SEEING RAIDEN'S SON IN THE NEXT MGS!!!!!!

» Its for the wii!

Sure...look at the slide, the N in Mission Is Perfectly lined up with the E in Next & the S in MGS...so its for the NES!...yep...lol My cousin in law was giving me a hard time because it was taking me so long to beat MGS4, and he was bragging that it only took him a few days...then I found out he was playing on easy! I was on normal, and even that was kind of hard...or maybe I'm just getting old...sigh

» lol

melty3218 is just jealous that all of his FPS games on the 360 can be beaten in 3 hours because they all are pretty much designed around online play, which is really annoying because I'm sure there are still people like me who enjoy a great campaign mode.

» And he's been one since MGS2

Kojima: Last Metal Gear, guys.

Kojima(three months later:) Metal Gear Solid 17. This will be the very last one. Zone of Enders 3 being the next game is a possibility.

Honestly. I've sat through his same bull***** lines repeatedly. I like the Metal Gear storyline(story line is amazing,) but the gameplay is boring as *****. I don't have the patience to wait 90 minutes to sneak through an area, so I just run through killing everyone.

Come on Kojima. Give us what we want. Zone of Enders 3. Far better series than the MGS series, that's for sure.

The picture of Raiden looks more like his pre-cyborg form, and it would be pretty obvious that if they included Raiden as the next main character that they would set this game during the events of MGS2 and 4 where he would infiltrate Area 51 to rescue Sunny and become the Cyborg Ninja. Along with getting Big Boss' corpse for Eva.

Gray Fox would make a better main character in my opinion, but whatever direction they go with this, I'm sure it will be a great game either way.
