GDC 08: Sony planning PSP Wi-Fi support on PlayStation Store - Image 1

Sony Computer Entertainment's Chris Eden spoke on a Game Developers Conference '08 session today titled "Self-Publishing for Independent Developers on the PlayStation Network Sponsored by Sony." Though the topic revolved on the fact that the PlayStation Network also had support for independent game ventures, his presentation highlighted an interesting idea: "access native PlayStation Store on PSP via wireless hotspot."

Sony's apparently planning to give avid PlayStation Store visitors some love for their PlayStation Portables, and it's likely to reflect in a future firmware update. According to same presentation slide entitled "PlayStation Store on PSP," PSP owners will be able to "purchase and download content direct to PSP" without need for either a PC or PlayStation 3.

But the launch of the program has yet to be announced, so we'll be checking on further developments from time to time. After all, they'd have to test it, like they did with the PC compatible PlayStation Store portal. More Game Developers Conference updates as we get them.

absurd

to download something >1gb at 222mhz over wifi is retarded. not even plausible.

but it's cool for..

people that doesn't have a windows PC... and to have it on the go... it's cool... and very few things are 1gb anyway... but I know what you mean...

actually

it's pretty fast, ps1 games take about 10 minutes.

i also know what you mean

its not cool, it is a very limited way for psp users without pc/ps3 to also download stuff from PSN. but at least they somehow will be able to. and of course people will bug sony, troll forums and comment sections on the internet unless it is implemented and functioning. but surely these people will still have something to complain, tis the way of the world. anways thanks sony for listening to your fanbase and giving frequent updates and features to the psp/ps3. unlike the other 2 competitors which updates are rare and uncool.

sorry, comment posted earlier incomplete.

Even though I use CFW, don't worry about 222mhz. I guess you don't know that ever since like 3.50+, the PSP switches the clock speed by itself when it needs to.
