GC 2007: Exhibitor list rises 34 percent, more event details |
Ó
Organizers Leipziger Messe GmbH has preempted the opening of the exhibition leg of the Leipzig Games Convention (GC) with an official announcement. It has been revealed that there's a 34% rise in this year's GC exhibitor list, prompting an anticipated crowd of 200,000 or more to arrive at the trade fair grounds over the four day affair.
"This year I am convinced that we will have up to 200,000 visitors at the GC," said managing director Josef Rahmen. He reveals that 9,000 of the said number will be trade visitors, while 2,800 will be from the press and media from over 35 countries worldwide. As reported before, Leipzig has a starry lineup of 410 exhibitors, although Nintendo is not one of them.
In contrast, last year's Leipzig trade fair reeled in 183,000 people from the world over, with 2,600 from the media. The exhibitors peaked at 368, and the entire 2006 Games Convention bested the 2006 Tokyo Game Show in numbers. Will the turnout be as expected or exceed overall expectations? Since time is ticking closer to the exhibition's opening, we'll find out real soon.
Additionally, more details have picked up for the Games Convention lineup of events, which include the opening of the trade show with GC Gala. Hundreds of visitors from political and business backgrounds are expected to attend the ceremony at the Glass hall of the Leipziger Messe center, a tradition that brings the city together for its iconic trade fair.
It is within this time frame that that the FILMharmonic Orchestra Prague will perform at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, although the Symphonic Game Music Concert 2007 isn't officially part of the GC 2007 opening ceremonies. GC Freestyle was also lined up in the organizers' announcement, creating a vacation environment for attendees coming from near and far. Open air swimming pools and concerts will be offered in GC Freestyle, although admission and ticket prices will have to be brought up with Leipziger Messe.
On the other hand, the culture, art, and family hall (that would be Hall 5) has been given an official name: A Hall of Its Own. And it will be here that the GC family will congregate and celebrate under a yearly theme, with 2007's theme dubbed as "Learning through play and learning to play." And education in games will be a significant focus for the programs in Hall 5, with training tracks for new gamers and game developer aspirants, plus a little exhibition of how games are designed.
The art portion, however, will be hosting its own program under GC ART with four exhibitions recognizing several forms of digital art. Machinima and CGI 3D character design will play into their respective exhibitions, while creations under "public_play" and "Telespiele 1972-2007" will also be shown. Need to know how they do it? Workshops will be provided to the spirited and curious, earning them a skill in digital artistry.
More developments on GC 2007 as they hit the press waves. Expect the Best of GC 2007 Awards to pick up within the day.
