Gangs of London, a highly successful PSP game released in 2006, will be getting a feature length film.
Gangs of London, one of the few games to be created and set in the UK, was one of the best selling PSP titles of 2006 and gave players the chance to immerse themselves in a darker side of London – where the city's underworld, ruled by gangs, waged in a violent battle for total control. The game contains graphic novel elements with a variety of outrageous characters in a heavily stylized version of London.
Menhaj Huda, acclaimed director of Kidulthood has acquired, through Pulse Films and their newly formed joint venture Foton Films, the option to develop the Gangs of London movie.
"Gangs of London was an iconic game which both Thomas and I were huge fans of - bringing it to the big screen is going to be a massively exciting task," said Huda.
Thomas Benski, MD at Pulse and Executive Producer, adds: "We are very excited about securing such a great piece of IP in Gangs of London for development into a feature film. The popularity of the game means that there is already a strong fan base, and the content lends itself to a fantastic story on screen. The project continues Pulse's move in the feature film world and Huda is the ideal directing partner for this venture."
