Gamestation exec talks merry holidays, 40GB PS3 pushing 60GB PS3 sales upward |

It looks like everything is going according to plan for Sony at the moment, at least in the UK. Jeremy Gerkin, the MD for online UK game retailer Gamestation said that the release of 40GB PlayStation 3 SKUs in the UK have greatly boosted the sales of the 60GB PS3 units, in conjunction to the UK-only 60GB price cut. Said Gerkin:If anything it's demonstrated what good value the 60GB version is. What we expected initially was that we were going to sell a boat load of 40GB models but that's not what has happened. By bringing out a cheaper model it's improved the sales of the higher-priced model. It's great for the industry because it's another format for people to get behind.
As for other consoles, the Gamestation executive said that it's going to be a merry holiday season for the console market in the UK, by stating that consumers now have more affordable options for the PS3, as well as Microsoft's Xbox console. The Wii may be having some problems with supply, and people are already starting to get Nintendo's motion-sensing console early in the season. "It's doing all it can to produce the Wii as quick as it can," Gerkin said of Nintendo.

I woudn't pay 500$ to play PS2 games that's for sure :S, instead, buy a ps2, then play ps2 games till the ps3 cost less, than buy the ps3 and you just saved money!

How is that good news? You seem like a cheapazz xbot.
Some people don't care about the backwards compatibility or the USB ports or memory card reader for that matter. Wi-fi and Blu-Ray are still in so to them it doesn't even matter that it's missing the other stuff. It's got everything that sets the PS3 apart from the competition, built in HDD, Wi-fi, Blu-Ray, rechargeable bluetooth controller, HDMI port, Web Browser, the ability to install Linux and quality build. So even this lower version of the PS3 beats the pants off the competition any day of the week and twice on Sunday. And now with this much lower price point, it's sure to fly off the shelves especially on Christmas.
But you know I'm right. I own the 360 and I can tell you that fro my money and piece of mind, the PS3 offers a hell of a lot more and now for an even better price. The other thing I love about my PS3 is the freedom I have with what content I can put into my console which is pretty much anything I want. I can transfer MP3 files to my PS3 I can transfer any video file I want to my PS3 and I can put all the photos I want on my PS3 not to mention that I can put any Hard drive I want on my PS3 with out voiding my warranty. That's freedom my frind try to do any of these things with a 360 I can tell you from experience that you won't be able to.

I think that whole debate was pretty stupid. My PS3 will never replace my PC. Like my 360, I just bought it (I think, my memory is kinda hazy) to play games.
the PS3 is suppose to sell over the holidays no big deal price drop near holidays=sales wonder if this will last after the holidays which it will most likely not
